  1. Well after it was suggested in another thread I thought what the heck, lets have a go at this... Plan was to remove the 'snorkel' and replace it with a straight, wider pipe that was then taken to behind the fog light area. The donor pipe came from a MG TF160 ;) I started by stripping everything out of the way, that is, battery, air box, fuse box and slam panel cover... Removed the snorkel (its only held on by two bolts, one on the front and one at the bottom, this one snapped off.. oh well! Noticed that the 2ZZ-GE or at least the UK spec DOES have a resonator box. oh well. byebye! Fitted the new pipe and secured it with a 3mm self tapping screw in to the airbox. Fed straight down to the bumper area no problems at all and retained a straight path. Comparison of original vs new: As you can see the original is very 'wiggly' and goes thru various widths, not ideal for air flow. Route of pipe to front: Plenty space there and is well clear of anything important ;) Fitment in to air box: Nice and secure! I have also removed the vac pipe from the butterfly and plan on fitting a cold air feed to this opening in the airbox also, I have another pipe similar to the one used above and will route this opening to the wing area. Took it out for a drive after a ECU reset and I must say it certainly sounds mean! too early to tell if it has made any performance difference but hey, its worth it for the sound alone! I took this sound clip going from 2500>8000rpm... Not great but gives you the idea ;) Clicky (amr audio file, tiny!) What do you think? Did I do well? :)
  2. ah bugger! that would be why I havent had a reply! cheers :) back to the drawing board it is...
  3. In what way does removing the snorkel help? better response etc or is it just more sound? I'll have it removed today if it really is worth it ;) Yes it IS a wet kit I have, as stated in my original post ;) Not sure that stand alone management is necessary tho, have never needed to use it in the past and as the engine has a knock sensor it should sort out the fuelling if knock is detected which hopefully it wont be! I only ever run on high octane fuel (99RON) and only use nitrous at WOT at suitable engine speeds and gears. Its all a new adventure! For now I guess I can take this snorkel out although I haven't heard of that before, I havent heard much in the way of modifying the stock airbox! Any more pointers? Still, anyone know if the traction is relay controlled?
  4. GR! I just wrote a big ***** reply and my internet line died so I got booted off the site and lost the reply! Will summarise... The nitous kit I have has a nitrous and fuel 'pulsoide' so both are injected together via the crossfire fogger. the ratio is aproximately 2 nitrous to 1 fuel. This keeps the engine running ever so slightly rich so risk of issues is much reduced. I tend to run closer to 2.3 to 1 as it gives a much stronger response. I have no immediate plans to change the exhaust or intake as I do quite like the stock items, they look and sound just fine for my needs! The nitrous install will have to wait until the new year as I need some new high pressure line and setup injectors to safely install it but in the mean time I am loving LIFT! Accelerated from 3000rpm in 1st gear at WOT yesterday for the first time, took it to about 8300rpm and WOW, absolutely amazing how much pull these things have! If I hadn't ran out of road I would have loved to have slammed it right in to second and went all over again! Silly fun, even more frantic than our subaru! Can anyone suggest the best means of routing a nitrous line thru from the boot to the engine bay (all on battery side) via the shortest possible path? Also, any ideas where abouts under the bonnet might be the best place to install the pulsoides? nearer the throttle the better but out of sight, thats the important thing on this install ;)
  5. Hey all, I have always been in to my modified and tuned cars and the Corolla TSport will be no different. I get the impression that the exhaust and intake are pretty sorted on the car from the factory as is the head. Reading various posts on here and on the celica owners club I see a common way of extracting more power is to supercharge the engine and some have even fitted a turbocharger. I don't have the money to follow these paths however I do have a Wizards of NOS Wet nitrous kit that I have used on my previous car and removed before selling the car. I plan on fitting this to the corolla once I have overcome a few minor niggles... * Traction control! If the TC is activated whilst operating nitrous things could get very messy so I need to only use nitrous with TC switched off, does anyone know where the relay is for TC? I want to wire in the nitrous so it can only operate if TC is OFF and it cuts the nitrous is TC steps in. * Bottle storage - Going to put it under the boot carpet in place of one of the plastic trays, the carpet will rise slightly but it will keep it out of harms way. * Installation location - Going to fit the crossfire fogger UNDER the intake pipe so its hidden, also going to fit the pulsoides (solenoides) in a location hidden from view. It will all be very stealthy! I have ran 50hp jets on 1.8 engines before with no problems (MG/Rover 1.8 VVC 160ps) and have been speaking with people who have ran it on this engine with no problems so I know that set up well it will be safe and reliable. I only plan to add 40-50bhp gain at this moment in time, possibly going as far as 75hp in the future under a progressive controller. This will take the car up to aprox 230-240bhp with close to 200lbft of torque :D Few questions for you all... * Piston rings - how strong are they? I have read 275 is about the limit? * Exhaust - any cheap/easy improvements to be had such as decat? * Intake - Any real benefits (other than sound) to a CAI? I have already disconnected the butterfly valve in the airbox and it sounds awesome :D Finally, Anyone done this before? :)
  6. have only had my tsport two days but have hit lift a few times already, the roads around here do not give much oppertunity, generally by 5000rpm im already up the ***** of the car in front! hitting the motorway today tho so can have a real play!
  7. Well I disconnected the butterfly/volume valve in the airbox this afternoon, was going to remove it completely but didnt realise that its a moulded part of the airbox! ended up just disconnecting it and blocking the vac pipe off. Looked at bypassing the throttle body coolant route but it was getting dark and I decided that could wait till tomorrow! I'm going to have to remove the engine cover to reroute the coolant so I think its best I can see what I am doing! Anything else I can do for 'free' on this little beastie?
  8. It is indeed the 2ZZ-GE engine :) Is there any benefit to using higher grade fuel on a stock engine other than for the cleaning properties they offer? I think I'll fill up with our finest 99 fuel today, it will be the cars first tank under my ownership and I suppose it wont hurt to give it the good stuff! Is there a large tuning mob on here for these engines? I would like to improve the engine response and sound but for not much cost!
  9. ah I see what ya mean :P I'll keep mine thanks! Yours has side skirts tho, I don't get them! I think the 2004 onwards models maybe did? Anyhow, there both great lookin cars, just with slight differences :D Any ideas about fuel tho?
  10. Cheers :D Yeah looking forward to later today to get those daft restrictions out of the intake, the sound at higher revs (before lift) is so much nicer than at low revs it seems a shame to hold it back until then! What's this rear spoiler difference your referring to? do you guys not get one? One question tho, not sure how directly this compares to au but over here we have a choice of fuel, 95,97 and 99 octane unleaded, by law the cars have to be able to run on the lowest grade (95) but it has been suggested to me that these cars love premium unleaded? Anyone have any advice on this? I would prefer to use the normal stuff as its cheaper but if the premium is worth using I will pay the extra. I mean, does it feel any better, any more responsive? It has on some cars I have had but then again, on others its made no difference at all!
  11. cheers for the welcomes! got the car now, couldn't get any photos as by the time I got home it was dark... got these from the original advert tho, hope you like!
  12. Hey, thought I would introduce myself! I was pointed in this direction from a member on the european celica owners club. Im Marko, living in england and about to take ownership of a corolla sportivo or T Sport as they are known over here! The car is a 2002, 3 door model in silver although its a strange shade of silver, I don't know its proper name yet! As for me, I'm 23, I am an electro/mechanical Engineer by trade and currently work for a specialist industrial automation firm, I have always been in to my motors and tend to find myself tinkering more often than the missus would like! I don't have too many plans for the corolla just yet but as I used to own a Celica T Sport there are a few basic things I want to do for 'free'... These are : Remove butterfly valve from air box Re-route intake pipe from under headlight to somewhere cooler Bypass the throttle body coolant route These are all free and intended to enhance the drivability of the car, perhaps not add any noticable gains but will make it sound meaner, especially on lift :D I also have a nice head unit to fit when I get round to getting an adaptor face plate thing so it will fit! I hope i'm welcome on the au boards, we don't have as big a corolla following over here! I will post some photos later today once I have collected the car, I can't wait! My drive home is only a few miles but 50% of it is tunnel! Marko
