  1. Gooday MMM, Re the running in, you don't need to baby the car, but I wouldnt do any racing starts or screaming stops for the first 2,000 km. Towing anything heavy is not recommended during this time. Then - go for it. My CV6 has just done 10,000km and it goes better now it has loosened up a bit. I took it for a big drive of 1500km in the first month to get the motor bedded in, but then I'm a bit fussy. I intend keeping the car for at least 5 years, so I want to look after it. You will love the power/transmission match. Almost perfect. Cheers, Bruce
  2. Hi, I have always used RON91. The car goes like a rocket, apart from the factory built in fault of hesitating for a 1/2 second when you suddenly hit the loud pedal. I've got used to it now. Personally I wouldn't think of using E10. Save $1.26 per fill for what? As for paying an extra $4.00 to $6.00 per fill for RON95 or Ron98, you'd need to see an 8 to 10% increase in kilometre range to break even, if you can't live with the hesitation fault. Bruce Regards, Bruce
  3. Hi Bill, Welcome to the forum. I have a new cv6. I got the Toyota tow package option when I bought the vehicle. Apparently the genuine towbar attachment struts also reinforce the rear of the rav so that it does not twist or bend under the force of the towed weight. According to the spec sheet the cv6 is good for 1900kg. I've only towed my 300kg trailer so far so cannot comment on your 1680kg load, except that my rav blew off everything at the lights, even with the trailer hooked on, so as far as power to pull a big load I'd say it should be OK provided you keep it in 4th gear whilst towing, as it suggests in the handbook. As far as a daily drive, it is very good on fuel consumption, has an excellent transmission and a very powerful engine. All in all a lot of fun to drive - a 4wd sports car! Regards, Bruce
  4. Have you checked tyre pressures? If they've got more than 35 PSI they're going to make the suspension feel hard.
  5. Hi, Taking it to a competent mechanic is a good option, provided they do a thorough job. If you're in a motor club like NRMA, RACV or whatever, they usually offer this service for a price. Don't leave it to the last week before the warranty expires, as you might need time to get something suspicious assessed. Good luck!
  6. My recommendation - call some different wreckers. Lots of them. Most of them can do a national search for the part for you. There should be plenty of good doors around - most wrecks have frontal damage. Your only other options are - get your damaged door fixed by a panelbeater (expensive) buy a new door from Toyota (expensive - but you never know, they might have some clearance stock) Good luck!
  7. After 3000 km and 5 weeks of ownership, I've already got a bit of a list of changes - 1) A radio (or radio and antenna?) that has decent reception. On FM it is annoying with a lot of distortion, stereo changes to mono and back all the time. 2) Decent speakers. The OEM ones are bassy and woolly. Not enough mid-range response. 3) 255/60 tyres on 17 X 7.5 rims for all V6 models, or at least an option to upgrade them. 225 are too narrow for v6 power. 4) Front bucket seats seats are too narrow, particularly the backrest. Also front seat bases are too firm. 5) Cruise control stalk is difficult to use. There should be buttons on steering wheel instead. 6) Rear side hinged door is hard to open, particularly if your RAV is tilted down on LH side (kerbside in Oz). A lift up tailgate on struts, with an openable glass like a Mazda Tribute is much easier to use. You can unload/load in the rain and not get yourself or your stuff wet with the tailgate up. You can open the back window to throw in small items, and you can leave glass up to transport long items. 7) The padding on the storage console between front seats is too firm and also too low to rest your arm on comfortably. 8) A tinted band across the top of the windscreen so you don't get blinded by the sun going up hills would be good. My sun visor goes up and down about 8 times a day. Do I regret buying the vehicle? Hell no! I love the way it goes, stops, handles and that all the controls (except no. 5 above) are "just right".
  8. I agree with pretty much all that's been posted previously - 1) Leave the spare out of the rotations. Means you will only have to get 4 new tyres, not 5 - saves money! BUT if you change your tyre size to wider or do a +1 or other tyre upgrade be aware that you'll have to take it easy with the spare on because of the different handling characteristics. 2) Unidirectional tyres like Maxxis MA-S1 etc - keep on same side LR to LF, LF to LR, etc 3) Rotate every 10,000 km and balance tyres at same time. My personal preference is to rotate as below - LR to LF RR to RF LF to RR RF to LR I have been told by a tyre dealer that radial tyres get used to rotating in one direction and take 50km or so for the plies to settle in. Rotating as above, the more important fronts are already settled in, and the rears which are less critical to steering and braking can sort themselves out as you drive. My 10c worth.
  9. I picked up a bargain in the Toyota January sale. MY09 (plated 09/08) - also called the "update" model. CV6 Silver Pearl with 1900kg towbar and harness, front and rear carpet mats, all weather rubber cargo mat, headlight protectors, front mudflaps and two front weathershields. Drive away $38,343
  10. RAV4. Not my first Toyota, but the only one I've bought new. I did a fair bit of comparison looking for a replacement before I sold the 2004 Mazda Tribute V6 that I also had from new. Overall, I'm 90% happy with my choice. Quadrocket.
  11. Hello and welcome! What car do you have that is MY09? Rav4? Prado?
  12. I got a new MY09 a couple of weeks ago. I'm an old bugger from the Gold Coast who likes a bit of fun in my motoring. I don't like driving a gutless car, hence the V6, and I live on acreage, so I like to drive around my place without getting stuck after checking on my macadamia trees, so needed a fourby. I'm also a member of RAV4World, but a lot of the information is irrelevant for Oz vehicles, but I have found it useful. Hopefully I can add something to the discussions and learn stuff from this site!
