  1. Silva does make a good point. My car is/was/will be a daily driver so as much as a black car would be great when clean, the satisfaction from having it 100% clean would only last a day at the most. Silver would give some more room to play with. I will definitely be making the time to make more trips to the professional Brisbane detailing team unlike before. Ahhh.... another good thing about Queensland :P

On that topic of things, had the assessor in Dubbo ring home today (despite being a public holiday), and they requested for my registration certificate to be faxed to them. Luckily that was easily sorted. The car is a definite write-off (which I am glad to hear... in the safety aspect of things) so they said they will forward the paperwork on to get it de-registered. So I guess I now wait for AAMI to get back to me about where I go from there.

From a repairable write-off, to a road worthy vehicle, then to a statutory write-off... this car has lived it's life. A bit shorter than I expected, but oh well. She was so close to the 100,000km mark as well. I was looking forward to getting a photo of that moment.

    Sorry to hear mate. :(

You sure its a going to be a stat write off? Looking at the pics and comparing to the amount of cars we've bought as repairable/economical write offs, i'd say its repairable - unless there is more damage than the photo shows on the bottom of the passenger side B pillar. Anyway it would be interesting to see what AAMI come back with, and why.

TRD FTW, or if you want something smaller, something with a 2ZZ, i'll hook you up with the bits to make it quicker than a TRD ;)

  2. I've done the Canberra course with Rick Bates, but that was as my observed licence test (OLT) to enable me to get my CAMS National Rally Licence.

Best place in Sydney to go is RallySchool.com.au, Mick Ryan is the best.

Do it, its the best fun you can have with your pants on. Totally worth the $$. Way better than going to the drags or the track.

  3. i'd always hold onto them, never know when you are going to need them. And after you have traded them in for $50 a pop, and then realise how much it will cost you to get them back again either from the dealer or the same place you traded them in, enjoy that feeling...

  4. Matt, I put them on my Lancer a few years ago when I used to make regular trips between Spreyton and Squeaking Point (for the uninitiated, that trip is mostly back roads - bush and ag land most of the way), after hitting a roo. After I put them on, I never hit another one, but I can't say for sure whether its coz of the whistlers or if the roos just didn't feel like hopping out in front of my car. And for $7, I highly doubt any hardcore scientific research and testing went into the design of the product.
This then doesn't take into account the Doppler effect as the vehicle speed changes; faster you go the higher the frequency, but the difference between 0 km/h and 110 km/h won't make much difference anyway, but depends on the frequency to start with.

If I recall rightly, the ones I had said on the packet that they only worked from something like 80kmph to somewhere above the top limit.

Just keep an eye out for wombats and eagles; you don't want to hit either of them!

Yeah, had to avoid a wombat on a trip a couple of months ago. I was really thanking my good tires and brakes after that. I hear hitting them can be worse than a roo.

You bet your a*se their worse than a roo! I hit a wombat once in my Lancer. Got a quote for repairs. Plastic weld bumper, new front spoiler, respray, color blend, > $1000, thanks for coming.

That's a bargain, last car I saw hit a wombat ripped the strut from the strut tower.

Dont bother with them, mainly cos they make the most annoying sound ever when they drive past you when you are walking.

  5. Wow NSW like to screw you hey.

Not like that in the ACT. 12 months is 12 months. but we also get the option of registering for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. Awesome.

    too many Polies compare to population :P :P :P :P :P :P

??? Actually you would find that they don't live here, but travel here throughout the year just when parliament is sitting. On a normal day, there would be 5 times as many politicians in melbourne as there would be in Canberra.

    Canberra rocks.

  6. ... DJKOR took the bait, line and sinker hahaha.

Yeah... because we need another jacka** to add more s*** to the board.

I did consider it as a joke, but when it comes to things like this.... I'll just assume the person is an idiot.

Anyways, if you think outside the box about my response, it is answered in such a way that if a noob does a search without even looking at the "Previously covered topics" thread firstly, then they will most likely click on this heading because it is an obvious title and will then direct them to that thread.

Hey dude its all good, dont get too excited. I probably would have fallen for it too a while ago, but u just gotta learn to not care anymore... no one's gonna stop people posting stupid topics, so just let them do it and then let the mods get rid of the thread, thats why we have mods.

U gotta have a laugh sometime.... after dealing with idiots all day, i come home to laugh, not get worked up...

  7. That won't surprise anyone here who has dealt with Toyota Genuine Parts. There's plenty of non-genuine stuff out there. Depends if she has a pre-facelift or a facelift model.

Pre-facelift has a sqaure indicator and reverse light:

    Facelift has circular:

Or you can get fulsik bro OMGzzz WTFBBQ etc. etc.

  8. Due to contrary belief and no faith in some ''cheaper' coilovers... the G4's i have handle Mt. Nebo as if the car is on rails!

I took the car up there on friday night, and the ability to take corners alot quicker then when i had the kings Lows in on the Stock shocks.

i can feel safe about instead of slowing down heaps for the corners, i can stick the car into it, and it just holds so well.

So do i regret getting the G4's?? NO WAY! THEY ARE F***** AWESOME! :D :yahoo: LOVE EM B)

    Evo

Haven't really heard many complaints about the performance of D2/G4 coilovers whilst operational...

Just a lot of complaints about their tendency to give up the ghost within about six months. Note the 30 day warranty.

  9. would have to be either the taylor's or the Neil Trama prepped car.

1 and the same basically, Mr Trama does a lot of work with us on the rallying side, and a lot more very cool work with other track cars for people like Colin Osborne.

He's the man to speak to when it comes to 2ZZ's in aus, just ask MWR who they'd recommend...

i disagree ..... im sure MWR would recommend kebab performance as their AU preferred workshop :P :P :P :P

Sorry Bill, forgot about Kebab performance, they are number 1 after all in all categories... replacing Ford in V8SC's next I heard? Then entering WRC? next will be F1, going global....

  10. It's not like this is the first time this has happened, there has been a shadow over the Falcon ever since the AU, and every so-often you'll get the news that the Falcon is going, only to have it reversed several months later due to a government grant or Ford re-thinking their strategy. Remember the straight-6 was supposed to disappear but it got given another lifeline in the FG.

As for Ford US, ever since the Crown Vic was struck off the list they have been crying out for another med-large RWD sedan, and the Falcon would be a perfect option - make it in LHD over in the US, use a Ford Europe compact V6 of 3-3.5L capacity, plus the new V8s as an option, and still keep local manufacture for RHD in Australia. Whilst the engine-plant will close, the assembly line will still run and we can still source local components. The fact that the Crown Vic cop cars are being replaced by a Commodore/Caprice, there is obviously the need for that kind of vehicle in Ford's ****nal. Whilst the Taurus is OK (the one we got was a dog), they need something a bit larger, and can also base Lincoln/Mercury models off it too (new Lincoln Continental = Fairlane/LTD here?)

Ford should just LHD the Falcon and sell it in The States, makes far more sense than pushing a dog ugly Taurus  on the rest of the world. Surely poor sales of American cars in other markets is a sign they don't want them.

GM saw how useful (profitable) the Commodore was, not sure why Ford can't see it too. I agree with Hiro's recommendation.

I can't wait for the Falcon to not be eligable for V8SC so that series can die and be replaced by something realistic. Only 3 teams left to jump ship.

Remember that a large American company will be more interested in preserving American jobs over Australian jobs hence the decision to globalise the Taurus platform rather than the Aussie built Falcon, superior or not.

Agree about the V8SC, they can burn in hell.
