  1. I got mine direct from the local distributor Easy Park Australia: Fly Audio in Australia Is there still interest in trying for a group buy price?
  2. All We collected together some questions when we first found out about the FlyAudio unit - I have tried to answer them: Is the hazard switch assembly included? No - but we now know that it can be bought from Toyota for $224. Are there options for the unit to accept RDS-TMC data? Still not sure about this one - but the GPS software has the option for this, so most likely. Will it be upgradable to digital radio? FlyAudio say on their forum they are working on this as well as an option for satellite radio. They have a module for digital tv. Does it auto dim the screen at night? Yes - it dims automatically when you turn on your head lights on and it also has three brightness settings on the main menu screen to adjust any time. How much is the TPMS senders/option? Ham says it cost him $300 - but I haven't got this option yet. Can the reverse camera be played through the main unit as the brochure shows the picture being shown through the trip computer screen? Yes - I haven't tried to do this connection but the wires and instructions are provided for this option. It requires some connection of wires and is more than just plug and play. Is there full function with the steering wheel controls, on the Grande there is the volume, mode (switching between Radio and CD), channel up and down, phone on/off and voice activation? All the steering wheel controls work perfectly on the kxs - not sure about the Grande phone controls but I would be surprised if they didn't work via the same CAN BUS connections. Does it connect to existing plugs? Yes - simple plug and play - just three plugs to connect together. Does the facia come in brown to match the beige interior colour? Don't know about this - the version I have is grey like the centre vents. It matches very well. Where does the Ipod connect? A metre or so long white ipod connection cord is supplied with the unit - I ran mine into the glove box because once the ipod is connected all the controls are done by the touch screen or steering wheel buttons, so you don't need to touch the ipod. The ipod function is very impressive - shows song title, artist, album on screen etc. Are there detailed fitting instructions with the unit, for possible DIY? Install instructions with clear photographs are provided for download on the Flyaudio website - it is very straight forward - about a 2 hour job. Easy DIY with the right tools. Kind regards Hado
  3. Yesterday I got the latest version of Nav N Go IGO8 working on the unit in 800 x 480 WVGA -running at this res and on an 8 inch screen it is big and clear. I have only had one drive with it running and have tested a few of the skins. Got the car cursor going, but losing the normal cursor on other skins - still some work to do. So far the most noticeable benefit is the current car speed and local road speed showing always on screen - and warning you when over speed - much better than the speedo reading. :) I will post pics when I get everything working 100%. I might do a separate write up for those who want to run IGO8 on these units. It isn't easy to get going - but worth it to have the personalisation features IGO8 allows. Some GPS units play DVDs in higher resolutions like 800 x 480, but run GPS software in lower resolutions, but I ran a test program which confirmed the FlyAudio unit runs the GPS in the higher resolution. I also ran a test program to confirm the GPS port settings: Port = Com 6 Baud = 4800 I will have to get someone to come with me to take photos of it working - most of the features don't show unless you are moving. BTW there was no need to run the GPS aerial anywhere - it is magnetic and just sits on top of the small info screen under the dash - which is plastic so it doesn't interfere with the signal. Thanks to Terminator1 for mentioning this - it saved me not wasting time trying to install the aerial up on the dash.
  4. Acorn I haven't spent any time playing music or DVDs - because of working on the GPS software - but my initial impression is that the sound is much better. It is 45W per channel and seems deeper and clearer. I want to play the Gladiator DVD which is a good test of DVD sound quality. The head unit includes outputs for a sub which might be needed for action DVDs to sound reasonable. The phone mic install was very easy. Just ran the thin wire under the dash to the join between the dash top and bottom on the drivers side (pried this open a little to get the 3.5mm audio plug through to the head unit) and then ran the wire up inside the door rubber - pushed it in gently with a point of a pry bar and pulled a very little of the grey pillar panel at the very top to push the wire in so the mic sits at the centre of the panel at the top. I took photos. This shouldn't effect the airbag operation because it runs next to the panel not inside it - other than the mic hitting you in the eye if the airbag deploys. :P Kind regards Hado
  5. Rapper The only special tools needed are some nylon pry bars - I bought a nice bright orange set from Jaycar for $25 - you couldn't do the install without these. Jaycar panel removal tools Kind regards Hado
  6. All I installed the FlyAudio GPS unit today - no problems at all - it was basically just plug and play. Although I didn't try to get the reverse camera running through the main screen - too keen to see the GPS/DVD working. The loom to the hazard switch just plugs in - as suspected their is a splitter loom on the old hazard and seatbelt warning light connected to the old stereo fascia surround. My first impressions are that it is a very well designed unit: - All steering wheel controls work perfectly. - Bluetooth phone function was was included in the new model and it paired and worked with my Nokia N95 first time. - The supplied iPod and USB cables run into the glove box - not tested yet. I installed the supplied microphone on the front pillar - so it is now close to the drivers face. Tested briefly while not driving and it appears to work well. I tested the DVD function briefly and the screen is clear and the sound is very good. I haven't got the GPS software working yet - about to start work on this now. I will post a separate write up of the install with photos ASAP. Kind regards Hado
  7. We would more likely get the hybrid before a diesel. I'm not sure of the exact mileage, but don't you have to do lots of Kms per year to justify a diesel?
  8. Easy Park set my unit from Sydney this morning - hope to receive it early next week in Melbourne. The version sent is an upgrade - 7548NAVI - which Easy Park says includes Bluetooth - no need to buy the separate upgrade module required with the older version - 7048NAVI. Hope they are right
  9. PaulG Looking forward to your report on the tyres. Carbon Black have only 2 reviews and they are mixed:Carbon Black Consumer Reviews Let's hope they wear better than the Bridgestones - 37K seems far too low. Drive carefully Hado
  10. Acorn The switch arrived today. :D So it took only four working days. And it is the correct switch - so one major hurdle now solved. Here is a pic: You can see from the packaging the part number was correct - as provided earlier in this thread. I was worried about this, because Toyota couldn't confirm that the part number matched the photo. In fact the first person I spoke to at the dealership told me the number was for the Grande switch and it was only after I insisted it wasn't and two people latter that they agreed to order the part for me - paid up front - no refund. The GPS unit is still on order from Easy Park. Not sure when it will arrive in Australia. I am probably going to try and install it myself over the holidays. I will take photos and post them. Kind regards Hado
  11. I ordered the switch from Toyota and the FlyAudio System from EasyPark earlier this week. :D Once the switch arrives (and it is the right one) I will arrange and take photos of the install process.

    Kluger Cargo Net

I bought and installed a black one of the SCA cargo nets. I took the four clips off the corners of the net and reinstalled two of them halfway along the net with black Velcro cable straps so they could connect to the tie down point beneath the shopping bag hooks. This seems to hold down the corner elastic loops better and the net has never come off. The net makes opening the rear window to put something small in the back worthwhile. It also creates a barrier to stop anything falling out when you open the full rear door.
  13. My N95 8GB connects 95% of the time - sometimes I need to restart the phone - but this happens with all handsfree kits. Agree the Kx-s Toyota head unit is not worth the upgrade - I am close to replacing mine with the FlyAudio gps unit. I ordered the switch and unit earlier this week.

    Driving Lights

John Welcome - nice colour Kluger and accessory choices. :D Agree HID are not required - I just had the opportunity to buy the Lightforce HID version cheaper than normal. Kind regards Hado

    Driving Lights

Kesawi Followed your lead and installed the low profile mount as well - much better IMHO. The lights look more in place and they don't get bumped out of alignment as easily. I also have the anti-theft nuts (two sets) - but had no problem with the reinstall. Have you had a chance to use your new HID lights on the open road yet? Kind regards Hado
  16. I've noticed the occasional RE smell outside the car at the end of a drive - but never inside the car

    Driving Lights

Sorry - Don't know how I got the wrong post link Anyway thanks PaulG for the correct link and for your virtual help installing my driving lights.
  18. I called the local dealer and they can order in part # 84010-48340-C0 from Japan - it is a special order so no refund if it is the wrong part. It costs $224. Terminator1 - just to make us all comfortable can you post a picture of your installed switch - it would be good to see your installed unit anyway? This seems like the right part number to me because I found the USA LHD version was 84010-48330-C0 - only one number different.
  19. The black Grande/Limited on the first page with tan interior has an ashtray in the 2nd cup holder and a lighter rather than another 12v outlet. I want the 'Sport' door logo ;)
  20. Terminator1 Thanks for the part number - much appreciated. This has been holding many of us back. Good questions Acorn - it sounds like the software is not loading up properly (or as you point out) a hardware error with the SD card reader. My experience with the gps software is it is very finicky - have one minor file in the wrong place or a missed screen resolution file and it just doesn't load. I play around with my portable gps a bit trying out new skins and features and I often have to revert to a back-up set to get it running again. (This is why I initially wanted a WinCE based unit - because of the ability to personalise the gps software.) :D I will send you a working trial gps file set on the weekend (which I will pre test on my WinCE unit) and you can try to run it - so we can try to find the cause of the problem. Kind regards Hado

    Driving Lights

Kesawi Well done - I will interested in your views about how they compare to your standard driving lights that you replaced. Good idea re the low mount - I also wasn't happy they stuck out a bit from the nudge bar. Have you set them up - wide and pencil beam? Kind regards Hado
  22. Here is the upload link the eBay seller gave me for the manual: GPS Manual 2.24MB pdf It is the same gps I started this thread with.
  23. Ham Your starting to worry me now ;) I was hoping the steering controls and GPS antenna weren't going to be too much of a problem. The steering wheel controls should just work and the antenna has to just sit on the dash somewhere. Although the phone mic is a good one - all I know is that in the Grande it is in the centre roof console near the sunroof switches. We might be lucky and find it's wired in already. I also noticed some of the international (Hong Kong) stores are starting to sell similar units on ebay for around $600 - just search for 'Highlander GPS', but none seem as good as the FlyAudio system. I might email them to see if they have install instructions. Kind regards Hado
  24. Acorn Welcome and thanks for your contribution. The install seems fairly straight forward - mostly plug and play except for the two wires from the reverse camera. The other part we don't know about is how the hazard light/seatbelt warning/immobiliser light wiring from our model will translate. These three inputs have been split up on our model to the two big round buttons and the install guide shows the long switch (step 16) has a single plug. Let's hope our model just has a splitter and the original plug is still in place. Kind regards Hado
