  1. Hi all,

Just returned home from 5 day family holiday on the Great Southern Touring Route and thought I'd share some photos for those that are planning a similar trip.

We were pretty excited about getting the Kluger and thought this would be the perfect trip to get more aquainted with the car.

We didn't complete the full touring route but covered most of it. See map below of our trek:

Stayed 2 nights here (BIG4) at Halls Gap.

Me and the little bloke at Venus Baths in Halls Gap - This place was the highlight of the trip on a 30 degree day.

    HIGHLIGHTS:

    1. Venus Baths at Halls Gap

    2. BIG4 Caravan parks!! Port Fairy and Halls Gap

    3. Mutton Birds at Port Fairy - arrive every night on dusk 8.15pm ish.

    4. Great Ocean Rd - amazing views.

    5. Warrnambool - Pertobe Lake play ground - heaven for kids.

There are a lot more things to do along the way, but given our kids are 3 and a half and 1 and a half and my wife is 7 months pregnant we didn't go on a lot of walks to waterfalls, etc, etc.

    the KLUGER:

Was great, averaged 10 litres per 100 km's with windy roads and an owner that wanted to see how the right pedal felt!!

This is my first FWD car and it seemed strange under heavy acceleration (over-taking) as it really went where the steering wheel was pointing.

Very comfortable ride, limitted roll in corners.

Comfortably fitted all the gear, including 2 bikes, clothes, toys, etc.

Had a Alpine Overhead DVD installed just before trip and kids were kept well amused.

    Overall, VERY HAPPY.

Anyways, that was the trip. If anyone wants any more detail feel free to ask.

  2. ive just come back from oznet supplied and fitted roof rails it looks beasty now.

    Show us a pic!

Hmmm, just had a look on eBay, only silver colour (how would that look on graphite?) and only 50 kg load rating. By the time you add racks and luggage box that leaves only about 30 kg load capacity. Anyone know what the load rating of genuine Toyota rails is?

    Still, I'm very interested!

    Ken.

I thought the same thing, but had a look on the toyota website and the graphite grande seemed to have silver rails!! Will have a serious look at getting these.

  3. You've got me thinking with Nowra!! Could go through Nowra onto Palm Beach (Summer Bay - Home and Away) as my wife is a big fan and always wanted to go there!!

Melbourne - Lakes Entrace - Merimbula - Batemans Bay / Nowra - Sydney - Palm Beach.

What are the attarctions of Nowra and surrounds!!

Is there anything else along this route worth stopping for / staying??

    Cheers.

  4. Hi all,

Just picked up our new family car, KXR Kluger 2wd and thought that we would become better aquinted with the car by going on a driving holiday. And to take a final holiday before child number 3 comes in Jan 2010!!

Will be leaving from Melbourne (Eastern suburbs) and probably going away for upto a week.

We have 2 young children; a 3 and a half and 1 and a half year old and wondered if anyone had any ideas/experieces that you could share...

    We have discussed:

    The Grampians,

    Great Ocean Rd,

    Merimbula??

    Would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks.

  5. Picking up new KXR 7 seater 2wd tomorrow, YAAHHH!!!

    got insurance quotes today:

Garaged in Rowville, Melbourne - good suburb.

    over 30 drivers.

    finance on venicle.

    market value - $42,000.

New vehicle replacement for two years.

    basic excess.

    RACV - $790

    AAMI - $862 (agreed value - $44K)

YOUI - $540!! (1 year new vehicle replacement)

Decided to go with RACV as they are reputable and have been with them before, despite YOUI being the cheapest.

I believe that YOUI are owned by a large company and are a big insurance name in South Africa?? (according to the guy from YOUI), but stuck with RACV.

    1 more sleep!!!

  6. Looking at an overhead dvd screen to put into the KXR and it appears that the Alpine is the Ducks Nuts, but is priced accordingly....

Have just stumbled across this one from SoundStream.

    post-15550-1253602540_thumb.jpg

Obviously Alpine is the more reputable brand, and I don't know much about the Soundtream outside of the specs on the following website.

    Carsonline

Seems pretty good value at $899 + postage + installation??

It also has different skins that will probably suit the roof colour a bit better than the Alpine...

I am also considering headrest monitors also, but cannot find fabric headrest screens only leather...

    What do you guys think??

  7. Thanks guys,

Yeah discovered all of this when searching through the Forum, but didn't find any of the aftermarket wheels to our liking. Preferred to retain the factory Grande look and think the wheels look pretty great.

    Cheers.

  8. Hi guys, just joined and used this thread alot when negotiating price on new grapite 2WD KLUGER KXR from Toyota Dealer in Melbourne. Are just awaiting finance, but negotiated $43,990 on-road including GRANDE wheels and carpet mats. Another customer purhcased a Grande from the dealer and they didn't want the Grande wheels so took some KXR wheels instead, leaving the Grande wheels available. The salesman said that the wheels owe him about $1000, so added that into our final price. I think that the wheels to purchase are quite $$$$$...

    SO.......

    Toyota KLUGER KXR 7 seater, 2WD, (Graphite) = $42990 on-road

    + Grande wheels,carpet mats = $1000

    TOTAL =$43990 on road.

Pretty good deal I think!! Traded a 2007 Rav4 Cruiser for $28000 included in the deal.
