  1. Finished the paintwork on my eyelids this morning, and installed them. They look good from a distance, but when you look from less than about 10m away, you can see that the fitment is a bit sh!t. Looking at some of the photos of people's eyelids, they look great. Did anybody else have trouble with fitment? Mine has a very visible gaps on the top corner where it doesn't line up with the panel around the light at all.

I've noticed this as well, and both mine and other people's seem to no follow the guard lines very well at all. I had resigned myself to accepting it, at least for the time being :P

On second inspection, the passenger side one is almost bang on the money, just the drivers side one its pretty woeful.

+1 on that - mine were exactly the same - passenger side fits like a glove and the drivers side gave me a bit of grief, they both look ok now but I need to sikaflex the ends down as the double sided tape wasn't strong enough to hold the skinny ends down.

  2. Not really on topic but I was at the Warner Bros Movie World Stunt Car show on the weekend and noticed that they use Federal 595SS on their Mitsubishi Lancer EVO's. I've now seen the show 15 times - my 3y.o son is addicted to the show and we've got an annual pass, I think I know the script better than the blokes in the show

Maybe it says something about the cost/performance ratio. I would expect that if they could save money, they would.

Indeed - judging by the amount of smoke generated during the show I'd expect that they'd go through a huge number of tyres in a year.

  3. Ill get some proper photos on weekend its to dark when I get home.

Mikka havnt seen pics of your kappas yet. Bit slack since you took photos last weekend jks.

Tried to set up a 'Members Ride' page and was denied

Here are some links to the photos that I'm not authorised to post...

Dont think the photos show the true magnificence of the Kappa's in the flesh though, there's something more substantial about them in 3D rather than 2D, the subtle curve of the struts gets lost in photos.

Looks great Mate, I agree with you on the photos not giving the kappas justice. When i was looking at mine i saw the photos on differnt cars and i thuoght there alright few of the guys at work told me there crap but when i picked them up and opened the box and saw them in the flesh i was stunned at the quality of them. Any plans for suspension?

The suspension is the obvious place to go next but its a family car so I think I'll just leave it as-is. Looks wise it could definitely do with a 30mm drop but I've heard varying reports on spring changes and ride quality and I can't really justify the $1500 for coilovers...yet

Haha yes mines meant to be a family car aswell. I was originally getting the pedders coilovers but the other half heard the price and i never heard the end of it so i just got the pedders sports rider springs. had it lowered on stock wheels not really any difference little bit firmer now with the 18's little bit rougher but i dont consider it bad and rough as guts.

I'm thinking of doing a Melbourne Storm and running two sets of books, get the coilovers in under the wife-cap

  7. G'day Andrew

I'm a fellow Gold Coaster Aurion driver - if you see a black Aurion with a ducktail spolier and eyelids going past feel free to wave.

Welcome to the site - I've learnt a huge amount about the car since I've been here, it really is a one stop shop for all the info you need.

Have a good one and keep us updated on your mods.

    Cheers

Mat (Mikka is my screen name - Mat's always taken when I go to sign up).

  8. I know I should have bought the RSB too but after spluging a bit this month on wheels, tyres, ducktail spoiler and eyelids I think I was getting bill fatigue  that and the fact that I could easily self install the FSB meant I went for that first.

The decrease in understeer is probably enough for me now too. To explain it there's a left hand sweeper that I take every day that when you used to boot it you would end up in the right hand lane whether you wanted or not :o , now you can hold the line with almost no extra steering effort, its been a massive improvement but as said I think a lot of that is down to the different rubber and wheels, the FSB is the icing on the cake.

  9. When we say things like 8/10, what are we comparing with? It's hard to make a comparison when you don't have much to compare to in the first place. Then you have to consider the upper and lower end of the scale. Is a 10/10 a high quality road-legal semi-slick, or a intermediate level high performance tire?

    Fair point Daryl.

8/10 is a general satisfaction level given the price and desired function - I should have stated that I was after a reasonably priced tyre that could improve the everyday handling of my car (my car is an everyday driver that will probably never see the track). The 595RPM's are if anything probably far more high performance than my requirements but they didn't have KU31's in stock and this was the next best thing. The reason for my high rating is that I have been impressed with the handling improvement of the car when compared to the ride quality degredation - to me its been a bit of a revelation. I expected the car to handle well but be a bit of a dog on the bumps and probably a bit noisier, where as the handling has improved out of sight and the ride quality has dropped only slightly and noise is the same, hence my high rating.

Tyre ratings are pretty subjective anyway and mine is no different. The bottom line is that for around $800 I got 4 high performance tyres that enhance the handling characteristics of the car, whether they last at the track or post good lap times is for someone else to determine but for me as I said, if you're rolling on stock I can recommend that you give these a try as they change the car from a bit wallowy and understeery to something a lot tighter and more direct. I couldn't be happier with them.

  10. Have mine installed now - car feels far more planted but that is primarily due to the new wheels and rubber, strut bar seems to have improved things again though, understeer is noticeably reduced, car steers and goes where you put it now.

I can recommend the bar but I'd definitely team it with some different rubber if you're on stock to get the full effect.

  11. Looking at those photos makes me want to clay and wax my car again - and I only did it two weeks ago  . Looks amazing.

BTW - I have to say thanks for posting all of your photos - your Aurion has inspired me to get a set of Kappas - they really do look great, especially on a black car.

  12. I've got to give them an 8 out of 10 - would be higher but since they're new I dont know how they're going to wear and I dont know what they're like in the rain.

Handling - massive improvement, corners flat, seems to brake better, and feels like a different car, more sporty. Its also better around town at slow speed.

Noise - no different to stock

Wet - not sure yet, it hasn't rained since I got them

Ride - maybe 10% worse than the Dunlop 60series I had on before

All in all its completely changed the feel of the car in a postive way, personally I'd think you'd be mad not to put them on if you're running stock tyres

  13. Installed the Ultra Racing front strut tower bar - looking forward to getting in to take her for a run, first run will have the 3y.o little dude on board as I have to pick up his Mum from work so there'll be no hard cornering (last time I accelerated a bit too quickly he told me to be patient and not get stressed out, then he told me that I should be driving with my hands at a quarter past nine not ten to two - I kid you not, that's exactly what he said, I'm getting driving advice from my 3y.o son
