  1. Get a light and try and look at the colour of the coolant in the reservoir or open your radiator cap(when engine is cold) and have a look at coolant that way

Pink is super long life, red is long life

Although if red has been watered down over time it might look pink now

Other option is to find the owners manual and have a look in there

EDIT: Ideally you shouldn't mix brake fluid types/ brands, besides if the brake fluid is over 2 years old or the brakes feel spongy you're probably better off doing a brake bleed

You can get away with 1 bottle if you don't spill any, but i'd recommend getting 2 anyway

I bought the car without manual and service book provided. I can see the current coolant is green which is definitely wrong.

Toyota said pre 2003 echo fitted with red color long life coolant, and post 2003 echo use pink color super long life.

Was wondering if i could use pink color instead of red on this 2000 model. The pink color coolant is premixed so easy to apply.

  2. Hi,

Can anybody help me to figure out what is the correct tyre pressure for Toyota Yaris ? Is it the same for front and back both ?

I just changed my tyres in Kmart Auto they put in 40psi.

You can not get even wear if you just put in the manual recomm.

  3. Hello all

I have a 2000 Echo and need to top up the brake fluid (between middle of min and max), was wondering if I could mix up with the brand, I do not know what the brand of the brake fluid the previous owner put in. Is it must be dot 3?

If I need to change it, how much fluid do I need?

And is the 2000 echo using the super long life toyota coolant or just long life toyota coolant?

    Tq.

  4. I have a new Yaris 1.5 --Manual Sedan 2010, I have had it since the 11/1/11 and I have done just over 1000 Ks I have found that it has stalled about 4 times, (I never stall a car no matter what I drive) at idle it revs at around 700--I was wondering if this was about normal--or should it be a bit higher? OR is it a clutch adjustment. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Thanks

get to used to yaris manual car

  5. Hi

I bought a brand new Yaris, YRS about 2 months back. I didn't check everything when i bought it. But after two months i found some corrosions in my engine bay. When i took it to the dealer, he said it is very common in Yaris and he applied a protective coating and spray painted the corroded area.

    1. Is it a common failure in Yaris ?

    2. What can i ask dealer to do for giving me a brand new car with corrosions ?

    3. Is ther any future effects due to those corrosions ?

    Mudi269

I would think it is common problem in Yaris. At least I see two yaris has rust on the same area and including you thats three.

I went to the dealer they said it's OK to leave like this.

  6. Hey guys,

Does anyone know if the Yaris came with Folding wing mirrors on other export or JDM models?

Comes in handy when inconsiderate people pass your car and knock to mirror and don't put it back. And you don't know until your halfway home or you look. Especially the passenger side.

My yaris can fold manually. And I know some overseas market yaris such as China has electric folding mirrors.

  7. Hi all,

Just bought a 2010 Yaris YR 5 door Manual, just wondering what speed (in km/h) is best to change gear to achieve best fuel economy? Any thoughts to share?? :)

    mg_k

I usually change gears between 2000 and 3000 rpm and sometimes 3000-4000 when first to second or 3000-4000 when second to third in order to catch up the traffic.

And you will find there won't be so much fuel difference when using high revs or low revs to drive for this small engine 1.3L.

  8. I have heard that some cars --have just ONE reversing light-- (my Yaris --6 months old has two) a friend that has a 2 door Hatch 3 year old Yaris has just one and said that this is how it came ?

just like above owner said, before Oct 08 release, yaris has one reversing light, another is for fog light. After that date, new production take off the fog light due to cost reduction.

  9. Hi,

I'm thinking of fixing a reverse sensor or camera to my Yaris. What is the best option sensor or camera ? I checked fixing reverse sensors from Toyota, it is about $ 500, is there any cheap options available ?

I bought two head sensors from toyota at the price of 245 including installation and painting.

For a small car like yaris, two head sensor is enough when parking.

  10. Hi everyone,

I have a Yaris YRS 2010,Auto. I was planning to spend less on petrol when I bought it, but apparently after driving the car for about 10 months, I came to understand that the advertised fuel consumption figures are just exageration. all you can go is 350 km in the city and just a little bit over 400 km on the highway. If you make a complaint to the service, they will give you a list of what wrong you are doing, but never they accept that 700 km on one tank figure is just a mith! I used to have a echo-2000, and it was much more economical on petrol than yaris. other than fuel consumption, the car is great. but, people buy this car generally for its advertised fuel economy.

Thats the difference of the manual and auto car.

I drive a manual 1.3 L yaris, I constantly get 600-700 km per tank, that is average of 6.5L/100KM. Even in summer with 90% AC use, the fuel consumption also returns under 7L/100km, and no matter how deep I kick the pedal the fuel won't affect much.

The worst fuel consumption I got is 7.5L/100KM in summer and heave traffic jam, the best I got is 5.5L/100km on highway.

I drove a 1.3L auto yaris before on 90% highway around 1300KM and 10% city suburb. I was shocked it returned 7-8 L/100KM.

  11. I am considering buying a new corolla because Toyota is now giving a big discount at the moment - toyotathon gold gleet discount. I got several offers from 23k to 24k for ascent model. I am not sure if I can get a lower price. Is it worth to buy at this price? Can anybody help?

what I can tell you is my friend bought a new corolla with window tint floor carpet automatic prestige paint at the price of 22,700. So keep bargaining.

  12. Hi, i owned a year 2000 echo and have only one black key (non-remote, i assume black key is the master key, am I right?).

I am going to buy an aftermarket blank key from ebay but I am not sure whether 2000 echo has 4d or 4c chip inside the key OR Australian market echo requires another special chip?

Anyone has any idea on this?

    Thanks.

I also find something interesting. My 2000 echo key's blade is more like the daihatsu's key blade. Below I attached the daihatsu key seller and picture.

  13. Take it back to toyota and complain until they do fix it as your willing to pay, and seeing as its a car that they should have expertise in, they should find the problem. Maybe a gearbox flush/service?

How many ks has the car done?

Thanks, man. My car is under 20k,and still under new car warranty. I complain the issues twice when I took my car to sercive, but they did nothing.

Another thing I complain is that when everytime a/c is used, I stop the car in front of the traffic light, the revs will go down to 400 rpm first and then back to the normal 700 rpm. And I can feel the engine shaking from the brake pedal. I talked to them re this problem as well and they said it is very normal for a small engine capacity car.

Well, what can I say to this dealer? The dealer I go is one of the largest toyota dealers in my place probably ranking either one or two.

I really hope somebody from the toyota corporation management could see my post here and indicate me the action I should take.

  14. Hi, everyone. I have a yaris. There are two problems annoyed me so much.

Sometimes when I use the first gear I could hear graunching noises. Also, graunching noises could be observed between first and second gear change. This problem does not always happen but have 30% chance.

Secondly, everytime when I start the car and move it use the first gear, I could hear a metal knock sound from the bottom of the car, probably underneath the engine area (especially the cold engine start). If I do not switch off the engine, the issue does not happen again. However, after switching off and restarting, yes, I could hear the metal sound again. Last service, I told the problems to the toyota. The mechanic had a test drive and also heared the graunching noises but he said it is very difficult to locate where the problem is.

SO, what are these problems? What should I do? Thanks a lot.
