  1. Ok. Before creating a new topic, I did a search on xenon HID headlights for the Levin ZR and how to change/replace them.

The problem I have is that one of my original low beam xenons (passenger side) lights up for about a minute (sometimes less) and then just turns off. If I turn off the lights and then turn them back on, same thing, works for about a minute, then dies.

What I need to know, would it be the bulb that is dead/dying or is it the ballast?

Has anyone had experience in changing the original low beam headlights on the Levin ZR? I would probably also look at upgrading the temp to 6000K to make the lights a little 'whiter' than the standard 4300K.

I have done a quick search on eBay and have found the following two bulbs. I am leaning more towards the Philips bulbs. Is that a good choice?

Philips D4S 42402 HID Xenon Bulbs 6000K Lexus Toyota

JDM Garax 6000K D4S HID Bulbs Toyota Prius Venza Avalon

    Thanks in advance

    car still under warranty???

  2. Installed the WeaponR headers today. Luckily they are a direct fit. Spot on. Im happy about that.

    WeaponRinstall.jpg.

Now, as for power increase. 3-5kw mostly mid range, a tad more power duration at top end. Drives better than it dyno'ed. Much more free revving, better pedal feel, quicker rev drop once the foot is off the pedal. Far smoother power curve, More power up top ( all these things are personal interpretations of the feel of the vehicle) the driving feels better than the dyno results.

I must say. I still think im down on power since the fumbled Toyota service/injector clean/ oil change. As i mentioned, it felt like turd once i picked it up from Toyota the other day, almost in limp mode and it wreaked of fuel. Initial dyno results came in 12% under previous run after the exhaust. No dyno has been done since the CAI install so i cant discount that either. Weather was very similar both runs. It feels better now than when i first picked it up from Toyota, but still not on song. SO, i would estimate almost a 20% drop in power post service/injector clean/oil change.

I see the variables as this:

1, Something happened to the injectors when cleaning, or the excess fuel screwed the cat, but its the most unlikely of the variables.

2, The 5W-30 Castrol Edge Sport is too thin, and causing Cam timing/ VVTi issues. - Possible/very possible

3, Toyota updated the ECU software and wont admit it. This is highly likely as my tuner has seen this before. Toyota (and other) manufactures will not admit they update the software version, as it could cause legality issues if there was/is problems with previous versions.

So yes, Im happy with the feel of the headers and their effect on the power and smoothness, especially for the cost. Im still not happy and cant chase this issue of lower power.

I wish someone would crack that dam Toyota ECU security coding so we can flash tune this POS!!

    fitted up yourself??

yep interested to see when someone local has these in stock and the price

  3. less road noise with the new wheels???

My levin is so fkn loud... its my biggest gripe with the car... at 80 or 100km/h its ridiculous!

I think it's actually louder with the Bridgestones vs. the std Yokahamas on the 16" alloys. I didn't notice road noise the first day, but have since.

It doesnt bother me though. Usually have music on loud enough not to bother me :)

I plan to throw some Toyo's on when these yoko's are done... tho this car isn't very hard on tyres so that might be a while.

Or I could go the new wheels route... haha... yeah I wont get mrs approval for that seeing as it is her everyday car.

I'm relegated to the silence of the commonwhore

  4. just bought a 2nd hand (1-owner) levin ZR from brissy last weekend... its an 08 so the current/new interior is probably a little different but I'd assume overall its near the same.

I'm pretty happy with it... love the high-set gear change (manual), the dash is bright, simple and informative... seat could be a little more cushy but its still comfortable > I drove it for 13 hours home to Townsville and didn't get a sore back or whatever. Probably going to get seat covers as the material doesn't seem very hard wearing.

As for extras i got a sunroof, but no reverse sensors, no reverse camera (would have liked), basic 6stack CD player + bluetooth.... but yea i'm pretty happy with it.

Its no power-monster but i've got a motorbike for going fast... and the kawka is only a smidge better on fuel than the levin :) haha 636cc compared to 1800cc.

so handling... this has the stock suspension obviously and it handles fine... a fk load better than our other car - commodore :) haha. I too would like to lower it just for looks but that'll never get approved via the minister of finance.

  5. you could just be totally used to it... not getting the same thrill as when it was new to you.

But other possible things... needs a tune, needs injectors cleaned, new fuel filter (could be partially blocked), new air filter (same thing - partially blocked), could be a quazillion and one things...

Engines are inherently going to decrease in power over time, not magically make more.

  6. Yelloow everyone... 1st post...

Just bought a 08' Levin ZR from brissy and drove the 1350km's home on the w/e...

So is it just me or that car has ALOT of road noise at highway speed? thought it could be the tyres but still its pretty loud.

    Otherwise it drove perfect.

So the new car (officially the mrs's new car - i'm relegated to driving the commonwhore to work) is pretty near perfect condition... not even a spot of gutter rash on the wheels. Manual, gots a sunroof, the base stock stereo with bluetooth, and all the other basic levin stuff. No reverse sensors or reverse camera which would have been a bonus but meh can do without.

So curious if there are any tips or tricks people know of that the Toyota manual doesn't divulge? :)

Pic of the car on the drive home saturday...
