  1. Tough Question as 1989 both Hilux and 4Runner Changed body shape. The newer 4Runner shape with coils up back has a shorter wheel base to the Hilux. If you have the V6 4Runner, this engine will not fit in the engine bay of a solid axle hilux. What are you try to achieve with this swap? And don't be discouraged, with enough motivation and the right tools and of course a deep pocket, there is no reason as to why not.
  2. Hi, I am interested on what happens, I too have an old petrol Hilux, mines a 1.8 though. I have looked into it and found that basically there are 2 types of LPG - Mixer type and injected type. I've been told by a local mechanic and a carby motor can only have the mixer type which is not worth it as the fuel consumption goes up and power goes down. the only saving is purely based on the price difference between petrol and LPG. These systems are cheap to install but can become more trouble than they are worth. My 1.8 is burning 12-15 Lt/100Km and this is starting to cost too much to run. Keep us posted as I am keen to see what you find.
  3. Yes, I have checked fuses, all good. Being an inconsistent issue, I don't think that a blown fuse could be the cause. Thanks Any other thoughts
  4. Hi, the 03 TD Hilix is a KZN165 this model ran from '02 to early '05. Yours I believe has leaf springs all round. So in terms of off-road capability, It could be a step back, but the 3.0 TD (1KZ-TE) has what it takes to pull loads and decent fuel economy. I do not like the 2.7 as I believe that they are underpowered and burn way too much petrol. There is also the 3.4 V6 which I have not driven so cannot comment. Depending on your budget there was also a 3.0 naturally aspirated motor, which is as good as you can expect a N/A diesel to be. Cheers
  5. Hi the worst problems to have, and I have them both, yay. Sometimes when I turn the key, nothing happens, but if I turn the ignition off and back on a few times, it will start fine. Is this a sign of the starter motor packing in, or a loose connection somewhere and how would I test this? I am thinking that it is a starter motor and it only started to happen after a water crossing approx 1/4 up the door. Also every now and then, about twice in 30 mins or so of driving, my Brake light will come on, I don't lose any braking and the feel of the pedal doesn't change. The Master cylinder tank is full and has always been full so I don't believe that air could enter the system. What could cause this? Again it started to happen after the water crossing. Any help is greatly appreciated as this is my work ute and unfortunately work is important. More problems to come I'm sure.
  6. Hi, I'm new to this site, however I've been a Toyota fan for the last 8 Yrs. I drive a '89 Hilux 2WD - the good old 1.8 and am currently working on a '89 Hilux 4WD, 2.8TD As expected old cars have plenty of issues and I am hoping to get help from here to start sorting them out. Cheers
