  1. The dealer said it was driven by a toyota manager previously. Anyway,I will put on hold car buying till feb is over. There might be a further reduction in price as it will be 1st quarter ending.Might as well buy a new car, especially since prices are being slashed.
  2. Its a rav4 sx6 2009.Ive already test driven it,the dealer asked for a 1k holding fee.I refused coz i dont want to run after him asking for a refund if the mechanical inspection doesnt come to my expectations. In a test drive I couldnt make out much but the inspection will reveal all.Like you said and the others, most people after a rav4 want a 4cyl,but im after the v6. Now toyota is doing some driveaway offers of 30k for Aurion AXT which I believe is a v6 and the touring is 32k driveaway. So if the dealer doesnt reduce the price substantially, then I will drop him. Just one ques- do you think prices will fall further in Mar or will they stop in feb? Depends on 2010 stocks? Ta
  3. Hi Guys, Why do cars sit at dealerships for too long? Apart from being a lemon or over priced, what could it be? I have been after a car and I recently went thro the pics of the vehicle again and in one of the pics, saw people in the background wearing winter clothes which means that the vehicle has been sitting at the dealers since winter. Now im a lil worried, really liked the vehicle. If the mechanical insp comes fine, you reckon I can bargain lower?? Ta
  4. Dude, I would suggest that you go to sites like carsguide.com,carsales.com,drive.com and carpoint.com and see what similar vehicles are selling for.You can also do a search under "whats my car worth" for a car valuation and see what a good price would be for similar criteria as your cars.I would be wary of demo cars, especially God knows how it clocked all those km's;have a mechanical inspection done from a reputed company.See link below http://www.google.com.au/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=0h&oq=vehicle+inspections&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4TSHN_enAU318AU318&q=vehicle+inspections+sydney The sites that I suggested will also show you where the cars are and which dealers theyre with.Good luck!!
  5. What all is a used car dealer supposed to give me when I buy the car? Its been 3 yrs since I lost bought a car and I dont remember anything.Any input will be valued.Ta
  6. There is a bit of an art to buying a decent car second hand through a dealer. A dealer's willingness to negotiate and drop the price depends on many factors such as type of car/dealership, how long the car has been on the lot, known visible defects with the vehicle, current time of year, his or her star sign etc etc To me, and this is just my humble opinion, he wants a deposit on a vehicle as he wants you tied into the purchase in case the inspection turns up something bad. Remember though when it comes to buying you have far more rights than they would let you believe and at any stage (even up to immediately after buying it) you can walk away with your money AND deposit intact. Don't ever let a dealer push you around - some have developed a habit of bullying people into a sale and it can also be just to hide a dodgy vehicle. Never buy from such a dealer. That's my advice. Thanks for ur advice mate! Yes I never gave into bullying,so I told him off.I told him that I will get the vehicle inspected w/o any deposit and he can let me know by weekend if the vehicle is still around and then I will arrange for an inspection. After which I will then move onto the next step(haggling) of buying. He was just being a dealer, trying a desperate sale on the last sunday of the month. Now his tone has calmed down and become more accomodating.Ta
  7. They say that not all used car dealers are bad,but how does one know? If a dealer calls you and says that there has been a lot of activity since you last came and saw the car, does it mean that hes pulling a fast one or were there a lot of people? He also asked me for a $1000 holding deposit for me to have the car inspected. I told him Im not paying anything to have it inspected and if the car gets sold after the inspection its too bad but when Im having it inspected, shows im serious and he should have the courtesy to give me a first go at buying it if im satisfied.I heard that theres no good day to buy a used car and its easier to haggle on a new car.Is that true?
  8. Despite it not having rego.I reckon its a vic vehicle and I will have to pay the xfr fees, rego and of course stamp duty on top of the price? When I look at valuations,do I look at the trade in price or dealer price? Ta
  9. Im after a rav4 sx6 2009 which the dealer is offering for $33990 and has 18k on odo.It was dropped from $36k.Could be a demo or company car. When it was new the vehicle cost $46k.Of course I will have to pay stamp duty and transfer with rego above it. I think for this amount transfer will be $21 and the stamp duty will be 3% of price or market value whichever is higher. Do you think this is a good price or a price around 29-30k will be reasonable? Of course I have to get it checked my a mechanic from state inspections.Any info will be appreciated.A member had said that with stamp duty and transfer price could go upto new car price, but I think even cv6 new ones are above 40mark now.Ta
  10. Hi Guys, I have a 2006 yaris yrs sedan. Was wondering if I can fit a baby restraint/seat in the back? Where can I find some info on the same? Ta
  11. Thanx mate for ur detailed reply.I live in NSW.Like I said I have rego till dec,so its upto me if I want to xfr or not? Any idea how much a 2006 yaris sedan with 31000 on odo and good condition will fetch?Just an idea! Also there are a few small dents on roof caused by things falling off trees when parked outside. Is it worth it to have a car detailing done?Ta Also is a cars age determined by it MY or year of 1st registration? Like my car is MY06 but was 1st registered in 2007.Thanx mate.
  12. Hi Guys, I want to know what procedures/forms are required when selling my car privately? What all do I need to do and what do I need to get signed or give out signed. Is a bank cheque good before I hand over the keys? What happens to my rego and insurance? I have rego till dec.

    Rav4/ kluger?

G'day and Happy Australia Day.Ive put an enquiry with discountnewcars for a new cv6.Lets see who comes up with the cheapest and value for money offer.Problem is that unlike the 4cyl there arent many cv6's out there, but let me keep my fingers crossed.

    Rav4/ kluger?

Ok.So with regards to the other used vehicle from 2009 we first discussed,is it a good buy if I get for a 28k driveaway? Is it good even at 30k?Ta mate. with regards to the vehicle with 5600kms,it is a 2010 Rav4 but a MY09.So should price go down more. When I consider selling, will the vehicle be viewed as a 2009 or 2010? Its bit tricky.Ta

    Rav4/ kluger?

Strange... I have driven both Rav4 CV and CV6 there is quiet a difference in acceleration between the two... I second that totally! There is a huge difference,v6 felt like being in a jet which was tearing down the runway for take-off! Once I hit the accelerator, the co-passengers were pulled back to the seats.Didnt happen with the 4cyl.

    Rav4/ kluger?

I guess you are looking at this one http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/dealer/details.aspx?Cr=11&R=9107123&keywords=&trecs=34&__sid=12D9D865FF09&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__Qpb=true&__Nne=15&SearchAction=N&seot=1&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294962855%204294962861%20245%204294929882&silo=1011 Stamp duty is 4% ($1360) and transfer fee is who knows what. In the end it will cost just more than the 2010 sx6 which is newer and has lower kms. Yes mate thats the one.In NSW its 3% and I think xfr fees are $21 I guess. So u mean to say that if I go in for a new one then its cheaper? Take a look at a new sx6 price on discountnewcars http://www.discountnewcars.com.au/toyota/toyota-rav4-gsa33r-sx6-wagon-5dr-auto-5sp-4x4-3-5i-toyo10fd.aspx Also mate, with a new car price offered are all these things like stamp duty, xfr fees and rego included? With the used sx6 on ,what should be a price negotiated if it has to be a good deal in your opinion.Ta

    Rav4/ kluger?

A dealer is offering $33990 for a 2009 sx6 Rav4 with 18k on odo but excluded stamp duty and transfer fees.Is that a good price? I thought used vehicles dont have stamp duty? Plus the vehicle is a vic reg and when I tried putting provided vin no and reg no,nothing comes up.Is that normal?

    Rav4/ kluger?

If cars advertised as 2010 but the MY is 09,should I be haggling for a 2009 car price with similar condition and kms?

    Rav4/ kluger?

I missed all of them as I had put year from 2008 to max and price max of 36k and kms less than 20k.Anyway ta for all the links, appreciate it! Yes the last ones a good deal.Ta again

    Rav4/ kluger?

Also guys,do I do an independent inspection before fixing the price or vice versa? With the trade in,do I talk about it after the price has been fixed? Will they allow that? Ta

    Rav4/ kluger?

Yes I read that it would be in 2012 2nd quarter and I need to buy soon. With my budget not going to go up next year,I guess I will have to go for a used one only. From all I searched, there seems to be only v6 around in that price from 2009.

    Rav4/ kluger?

I got my brand new CV6 for $38900 drive away so it's possible. The CV6 does around 8-9L/100km at 110km/h with hard acceleration. Hi, Where and when did you get your cv6? Sounds like a very good deal as now theyre offering driveaways at 41k. I testdrove the 4ycl and an sx6.Boy what a world of difference.Like someone wrote, "it just blasts the competition away". This is what Im after. Now the sx6 that I test drove is a 2009 model with 18k on odo and the salesman said it was a toyota managers car.The price was 35990 on the net but when I went there they had dropped it to 33900 and the guy said we could get it down further.Something amiss here? Why is the vehicle so lowly priced? Is it just me or is there something dodgy going on?Will obviously get a mechanic to chek it.Any recommendations for mech in Sydney? The v6 is a superb engine.Do let know, would appreciate hearing from experienced guys like you.Ta

    Rav4/ kluger?

Thanx guys for all ur advice. In fact I called the dealer in parra yday and he told me that he has no more v6's left as they are all sold out.He tells me that he has a 4cyl and it has no issues climbing uphill with a full load. That sounds more like a desp salesman talk.Yes I prefer a v6 but since my budget is under $40K,Im not sure I will get a new one.May have to settle for a used v6.But thats dodgy,if the previous owner has bashed up the vehicle, then I will have to take a mechanic and get it checked.Oh bother! Anyway ta for ur time guys, appreciate it.
