  1. How often will you be offroading?

The RAV4 V6 does have down hill assist control. It's a button next to the steering wheel. If you do go offroad just remember to remove most of the pressure out of the tyres. Also i would recommend you change your tyres from stock to Bridgestone Dueler A/T D694 because of the extra traction along uneven roads. I have the D694 on the Landcruiser when i go offroad and it's excellent.

If i were in your case i would get the new/used Prado or wait for the FJ cruiser which is pretty much a mini version of the Prado.

Hey Buff I wont be doing it too often, just once in a while. So Prado and the FJ arent for me. I would have been happy with a 4cyl but Ive read a lot of reviews from owners saying its underpowered for its porky body.I think I read those words on this very forum somewhere. It may make sense coz the cr-v which I test drove and found lacking in power is 125 and torque around 220 and the rav4 is similar,so it must be underpowered for red light starts and hill climbs.I have a yaris sedan and the reason i want to change it is the same- it cant climb, its always hunting for gears.Any other alternatives?Ta

  2. Hi guys,I live in wentworthville near parramatta. I'm after a vehicle which can do a bit of offroading like the beach and the snow and muddy surfaces. Does the rav4 have an option to switch on 4wd and lock it or is it automatic when it detects slippage? The kluger seems to have better safety packages like reverse camera standard across all models and extra air bags too.Only thing is that its too darn big.Thats why we were after the rav4,now is the basic 4cylinder powerful enough to climb hills or will we need a v6 for that? Have read about the v6 in rav4 being a bit thirsty. Please do fill me in,all advice will be appreciated. Also when is the best time in the year to buy a new vehicle to get good discounts and any particular dealers or sites? Ta

  3. i would have gone for a V6 since the 4 banger is abit underpowered with the porky RAV4...

Is the rav4 really underpowered with power at 125 and torque at 224.Read all reviews but no one wrote anything about it being underpowered, though what struck me was that I had test driven the honda cr-v and with similar readings,it came across as underpowered. I would like it if this point could be clarified. Albeit, I also read that the v6 was too powerful for the rav4 body weight and caused a lot of torque steer at sudden acceleration.
