  1. if you are really concerned... just take it to any exhaust shop and they will weld a brand new tip for you for around 100 bucks. if the rest of the car is good buy it ;)

That doesnt make any sense. I want to know if the reason the exhaust tip was switched is valid. I thought someone with experience in this aspect of an exhaust or the car in general would be able to deduce better reasoning than taking it to an exhaust shop. If it has in fact been in a rear ended accident, im not willing to invest in someone elses problem.

  2. Yes because people are too tight to pay 30$ dollars for the Vcheck.

So they go online and do a free rev's check but little do they know if its a ex-repairable write-off from interstate the Revs check wont show its history.

Thats how alot of people get away with it.

That might be true, however if you knew how to repair a write off yourself, you wouldnt go through insurance which is the reason it would make it an official write off, you would repair it privately (which would void it from being listed as a write off). My query is based on distinguishing whether or not its a write off from the number plate.

  3. Using the number plate alone won't tell you that information. You will need to get a VCheck on the car which requires at least the VIN number and current registration details.

I don't know what you heard about the plate numbering, but that sounds like a myth to me.

I heard it from a guy that regularly buys and fixes write offs. It didnt sound logical to me at first either, so i just wanted to know if anyone else had heard of it. Thanks for the input though.

  4. Hey guys,

Went to go look at an 05 corolla sportivo today, car was pretty immaculate. Only downfall with the car, is that the exhaust tip was removed and i think an ascent exhaust tip was welded on. I asked the owner and he said that the stainless steel tip was too loud for his liking so he got it removed and put a "quieter" exhaust tip on instead. I was scratching my head with his reasoning, and i figured the car must have been in a rear end accident. He says it hasnt been in an accident before, which it doesnt look like. When i took it for a test drive i couldnt really make out any difference between the stock stainless steel exhaust noise or the after market one.

    Any guidance is appreciated.

  5. Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask whether or not its possible to tell if a cars been written off before and repaired just by looking at the number plate.

I heard that if the number plate is white with black font and has three letters which starts with a B and has 3 numbers to end it, it means that its been written off before and just repaired for a re-sell. Does anyone know if this is true? Any info on this topic it would be great.

  6. black facelift 2010 corolla on cabramatta rd. it had a those little tiny light bulbs on the headlights similar to the ones on an audi/bmw, which i was MIRIN ;) HIT ME UP!!

WTF is 'MIRIN' ?! Is this meant to mean 'admiring' ??

    *must be getting on.....*

its meant to be, R U 'MIRIN, COME AT ME BRO

  7. Hey guys,

Ive found a really nice clean corolla to buy, however the owner doesnt have any log book with it. Its an 05 corolla sportivo, and apparently he bought it from the previous owner who didnt have the log book. The seller told me that the front bumper and left head light had been changed due to the car being in an accident, and that its been replaced with genuine toyota parts. The issue is though, is that the majority of 05 corolla sportivos ive looked at, are missing log books and have been in accidents. If anyone could give me some input on what they think, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have also checked REVs and the car isnt listed, however it might have just been repaired privately so that insurance might not have had to list it on REVs. I know the majority of people say get an NRMA inspection done on it, but they mainly deal with mechanical aspects of the car and not really any chassis damage.

Also, if i do buy the car and decide to sell it, would it be easy to trade into a dealer for cash, or would they require log books for the car as well?

    Cheers.

  8. EEEEWWWWWWWW. And I thought the canon was dead

Some people still live in this era:

    VIN%20DIESEL%2003.JPG

I don't hate the cannon muffler itself... so long as it is used properly. A car like a R34 Skyline putting down good numbers would be an example, but only where the cannon suits the style. I'd still prefer not, but if it had to go that way, that's an example where it is suitable.

That era was the best thing that happened.

  9. Leather seats are an option. No ZRE's are imported with leather seats. They are re-trimed here in AUS by another company. "Pantera" do all the leather work for the ZRE's. Its quite possible that the accent was floor stock that already had the leather trim as a demo/floor show car. Cost is just on or under 3K. Thats fronts, backs, headrests and door trim f/r. Normally local well trusted trimmers are used to install the re-trims. Im 99% sure its the same for MY11's, especially Ascents.

Just to clarify, he bought the ascent with the standard trim, then as an option he got toyota to put the leathers in. I didnt realise you were relating the leather seats as a factory standard.

I heard with VW's, that if you don't get the leather option with the car when you initially buy it(so they can put it on when they ship it out from Germany), it voids the warranty if you decided to put your own leather trim on it. I wonder why VW don't outsource their leather trim option in Australia. Is it true the dealership will have their license revoked?

  10. There are some slight variances visually between the JDM and UK Civic Type R.

    JDM EP3:

    - VIN will start with EP3-1xxxxxx

    - Centre console around the stereo is different (it has rounded edges)

    - Speedometer is in KMH only, whilst UK will show MPH (and KMH in smaller print)

    - Factory LSD

    - Factory HID

    - Came in Championship White (NH0)

    - UK Flag emblem

    - Will still say Made in U.K. on the VIN plate as it was built in the U.K. but finished in Japan.

    Way to spot a pre-facelift (01-03) and facelift (04-05)

    - Obvious visual differences like headlights, tail lights, front bumper, red & black Recaros

    - VIN plate should state LA-EP3 for pre-facelift and ABA-EP3 for facelift.

Somethings to check for is noises from the steering rack and or cracked engine mounts. Both common issues with the EP3.

Pay Gavin at International Motor Group in Lidcombe (also on Parramatta Road) a visit, top bloke. They mainly import exotics, but they import some of the cleanest EP3's. Say Kenneth sent you! :P

    Hope that helps,

    Kenneth

    Hey Kenneth,

I appreciate the guidance. Ill give the Ep3 at IMG a look at today or tomorrow. Looks like its pretty clean from the pics. One thing that did phase me, is that i asked about the import papers at two dealerships like you said to do to check the km's, and neither of them could provide me with them. They stated that they never received any log books with the cars and that with some cars they dont get the import papers and some cars they do. Seemed very shonky to me. Also another question, the Ep3 looks bigger than the 5 door sportivo, did you find that the case when you first looked at your car? And also, is the car fuel efficient, ive been looking on different forums and apparently the general consensus is that the majority of owners get over 10.5L/100km on them.

I also just read that the Ep3 can achieve 0-100km/hr in 6.4 seconds, whiles the sportivo only gets there in 8.4secs? I thought guys were getting low 15 second passes in the quarter mile in their N/A sportivos.

    Eddie.

  11. I have heard rumours of a certain importer/dealer within Sydney who clock back their imports (however I am not sure, so I can't comment further). With most imports, it's more so the condition you're after. A majority of the EP3's will have around 70,000-80,000kms on the clock by now. If you're lucky, you can find one with 4x,xxxkm like myself. Also, ask for the import papers. Most often then not, the KM's are noted down on the paper work from Japan, and the dodgy dealers will discard of such paper work so you won't know. Perhaps try and avoid these sorts of dealers..

That's all I can say really.. go inspect them, drive them, and see if the condition inside/outside resembles the KM's on the car. :)

    Thanks for the info Kenneth,

Edward Lee imports on parramatta road in concord has their Ep3 advertised with 50000kms, then when i went to check how many it had on it, it displayed 85,000kms. Also, when i inspected teh engine bay, some of teh bolts where mis-matched and starting to rust?

Also, im getting confused with the type r's, apparently there's an EDM (euro domestic market) and JDM version (which has the LSD, and was generally recognised as a better car). How can you tell if its the JDM spec or the EDM spec, does it state it on the import papers? If i do decide to go for the type r, what year model do you suggest? Like everyone else on these forums, im just after one with high performance, easy to maintain and wont break down on me anytime soon. Are there any tips you suggest when inspecting an Ep3?

    Eddie.
