cheers guys. i think ill try about 38 psi next time and see how that goes. i realise i need to see what works for me on the day and the track im at as i stated above i just wanted to see if the pressures i ran last time were close too what i should run, turns out they were a bit high.

is 32 psi good for street driving?

ok thanks mate, appreciate the help. ill give that a go for my next track day. i had a feeling the pressures last time may have been a little high.

only thing i was thinking even though they are street tyres higher pressure would make the side wall stiffer to prevent tyre flex?

cool good starting point. should i run the same front and back? also is it best to up the pressure when they tyre is at operating temperature or cold?

no they arent unfortunately. they are just 'normal' street tyres but high performance so iv been told

hey guys, im going on another track day in a couple of weeks and im wanting your opinion on what tyre pressures to run, i know there are lots of variables that i need to consider on the day but just a rough figure would be a good start.

the car is a zre and the suspension is stock except for a rear swaybar and a front strut brace. last time i was on the factory tyres (which are crap imo) and ran i think 42 psi front and 40 psi rear.

im now running some good falken tyres and added camber bolts. what would you recommend trying this time? was i close with the pressures i ran last time or way off?

any help will be greatly apprciated

cool thanks for that. its not really loud but I can notice it slightly, probabaly just the gearbox doing its thing.

From talking to my mechanic I gather you are right about the electronic throttle and he also says that Toyota won't want to know about it even though everyone else does because it is not economic for them to get it right for the few manual cars that they make.

yea thats true because 90% of the corolla's sold would be autos. Id say it is rough because of the elctronic throttle becuase I also find if im trying to maintain a slow speed that requires minimal throttle input like going through a school zone its really jerky and rough because its constantly on and off the small amount of throttle applied. its very annoying but im slowly getting used to it.

sorry to change the subject but im just curious. I am wondering do you notice a small wining sort of sound when your maintaining a certain speed? its not very loud but I have heard this and it does it all the time, i dont hear it when i accelerate just maintaining a constant speed. I was going to ask toyota but they would probabaly ignore it so im curious if yours or anyone elses does this?

I imagine the chip could be reprogrammed to normalise engine speed during gear changes but I don't know whether I would trust a dealer to do it and I'd rather live with it than risk something being hashed. Maybe a specialist tuner could sort it out but it should be able to be corrected under warranty.

no worries, yea it should be fixable but im not too sure how they could do it. im pretty sure its to do with the electronic throttle maybe? not sure but its bloody annoying, iv read a few reviews and they all say the same thing, even the brand new shape manual version does it.

I have bought a new Corolla Ascent Sport which will have its 1000 km inspection next week.

I'd be interested to know what if any faults typically crop up at this time and what things to look for that can be overlooked by dealers.

There are only two things that have impinged on me. One is that I see no sign of lubrication on the door hinges unless they use something that is pretty invisible.

The other has been remarked on in the Dogs and Lemons review of this car which is that between gear changes the engine often revs about 250 revs rather than falling away in the usual way on a manual box change. Dogs and Lemons felt that Toyota should have been able to deal with this issue.

Is there anything that can be done by a dealer without risking fouling things up altogether e.g in reprogramming what happens?

I'd appreciate any comments.

the 1000 km check up is very basic. mine only took about 30 min to an hour and they dont even put it up on the hoist. my door hinges dont have any grease either but i dont think they are meant to i havent seen any new car with this. i dont like what the engine does when you change gear either, i have the manual also and i can almost never get a smooth gear change and the engine either holds the revs for way too long or it drops right down to idle the instant you put the clutch in. but they are pretty basic so nothing to worry about.

Springs only won't give you the needed result. Wheels won't be level with arches...

Thanks for your reply but I do realise that, the height I mentioned above was only a guide if someone could edit the pic and lower it, I didnt want them to lower it so the chassis rails were scraping the road haha but turns out apparently its too difficult.

Iv used coilovers before I know they are the best for lowering and for handling but I cant afford coilovers and wont be able to for quit a while so thats the reason for choosing springs. I realise its not going to tuck the wheels but a small gap is fine just sick of it rolling and looking like a 4x4 lol

Mines lowered 1.5" and on orange stockies ;-)

im wanting coilovers but i cant afford them and wont for quit some time so im just going with springs. im not sure which to get though iv got 3 options - eibach, lovells or pedders

not sure if that would help as car is a different colour, but hes got a slight drop on some springs and wheels are orange.

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone had photoshop if they could show me a picture of what my car would look like lowered and the stock wheels painted orange. I dont want it dumped but low so the top of the wheels are level with the top of the wheel arch.

Ok so my career/job currently is and you probably havent heard of too many people doing this... I feed the Koalas at Dreamworld, we grow the eucalyptus, cut a load each day then go back and feed em, not a bad job has its pros and cons like any other. Would love to be a car detailer or something along those lines one day. I cant even remember how I became to love cars, Iv just had a strong interest in them ever since I was a small boy, neither my dad or my uncles had anything to do with cars so Im not sure. But Im pretty sure if you cut me open Id prob run like a car inside haha thats all my brain ever thinks about :)

I have no idea what made me think of this question but i figured there is a great bunch of people on here who like corolla's just like me so I was wondering what sort of age these people are. Oh and Im not trying to be knosy I was just curious and if you dont wish to share your age there is no problem with that :)

Ill go first, Im 21 and even being a young rev head I think the corolla is great fun, not a performance car by any means but can still be a fun drivers car with a few tweaks :)

and yours being auto will make it slower too, my manual one goes quit well for a corolla anyway

thanks guys. dont mind standing out its something different too especially because its a corolla and there are soooo many around with the average sort of rim something racey looking and out there would look good.

plan is to lower it at the same time so 4x4 spec wont be a issue lol

What is your opinion on coloured wheels - Yay or Nay?

Iv found a set of wheels I really like and they come in many colours they come in the usual black, gun metal grey, silver etc but they have red, orange, blue etc. I can picture the red or orange wheels suiting my car as its silver and I think it would look quit good, different too, just dont want to look like a ***** driving around with bright wheels.

Whats YOUR opinion?

No worries. Yea it used to feel like it went halfway into second then stopped, not actually sure if it had actually selected 2nd as i didnt want to let out the clutch incase the gears grinded but it seems to have resolved itself now i think it was because it was new. If i drive around with no music i can slightly hear the gears change its not reallt loud but i can hear it though, should be normal.

Hey mate, I actually didnt end up taking it back to toyota, I was a bit lazy, I decided to leave it for a while and its actually come good.I think it was partially me and partially due to it being new it now has about 7000 km on it so enough movement to wear it in.

If its the exact same issue as I wrote above you could leave it for a while and see if it wears in and just make sure the clutch pedal is complety pushed in etc or do what I probably should have done you could take it back to the dealer and ask them and they might be able to give more information on the issue.

so its been a while since an update and yet not much has happened to the corolla, didnt get on the track day i had planned due to finance as i bought a new toy but took it on a enthusiastic drive through some nice corners with good mates so that was still fun.

I got a early christmas present today too... my Injen CAI FINALLY turned up. This has been the worst thing I have purchased due to getting messed around with the company I bought it through and it took waaaay longer to get here then it was meant to then it was a hassle to take delivery from the courier but no matter its finally here in my possesion :D now to fit it to the zre, question... do I need to take the front bumper off to install it?

Now onto the new toy I purchased, Iv never owned a turbo car so thought it was time to get one. I got myself a 95 suzuki swift GTi and fitted a turbo kit to it, I have never grinned so much in my entire life haha it makes me happy everytime I drive it but I must say im glad its not my daily if it was Id prob loose many points on my license lol. It runs a td04, xr6t fmic, turbo chip for 8-10 psi boost and a fuel regulator makes 140 hp atw also has a short ratio gearbox with a LSD and HD clutch.

So probably not much will happen to the corolla for a while but I havent given up on it just need more monies to buy stuff.

Now for some pics...

i get 650 km easy but i rarely use the aircon and mine is manual so that would make a difference. I do probably 50% highway but its only a short trip and about 50% city/town driving just cruising around basically but some leadfoot driving is involved haha
