  1. Hi Oms,

The price you got for your 12 mths Grande was great with low kms. There are probably more pros in buying a brand new car but on the other hand if you do your research and found the right used car with servicing history and low kms I guess its all worth it! Not to mention, the devaluation on brand new car seconds after you driven it out!

I bought my 2010 GrandeFWD 12mths ago with 44,000kms and to date it has been a robust transport machine. Overtaking in highways is a breeze and very comfortable to be in.

We are off to Gold Coast next months and travelling with my Kluger. Very much looking forward to it!

  2. Hello Gents,

Your input is appreciated and apologies if my question has caused some intense dialogue amongst some. However, I sincerely do hope after this we all remain civil and peace amongst us prevails :D

My opinion is all input does have merits but the oustanding advise for me is using premium oil in all cases as this will minimise/prevent the sludge build up as shown in Youtube provided by Rice Racing. Cheers once again my friends!

  3. I have a friend who used to work for Toyota as a mechanic. Yes, what Rice Racing said here is true. Newbie mechanics were insensitive to the car owners when servicing their cars, i.e. careless attitude. He had seen some inappropriate practices in the workshop but fortunately he was the opposite! I service my other car being a Corolla like changing oil and filter and other maintenance I can do. With this car, I will let the dealer touch it if its a major work in which you require special tools and skills. So far spent $740 to replace a leaking water pump, fuel filter, new coolant and wheel balancing.

My kluger is now out of warranty and may attempt to service the basic maintenance from now on..

  4. What a RIP OFF!

Buy your own parts on line, plugs, filters, oil! and do it yourself!

    Benefits?

No apprentice butchering your pride and joy!

The job will get done right!

You wont have sub standard oils used in your vehicle lol!

These cars are too easy to work on, and stuff all needs to be done to them honestly. Madness to go to a dealer and get analy abused like this.

Hi Peter, sounds like you are an expert when it comes to servicing cars. How hard is it to change the oil and filter of Kluger? Do you need special tools for these?

  5. I have a mate who works with a large company who run many vehicles including many camry hybrids. They love them and they have been the most reliable vehicles in their fleet which includes many other petrol and diesel vehicles. They are looking at replacing all diesels in the fleet with Hybrids over the coming year due to the much lower running costs. Gee when they first introduced them years ago, many workers still thought you needed to plug them in over night, but now they have a very high satisfaction level with their drivers.

The main problem with Hybrids is that there is so much misinformation and poor understanding about them.

For instance do a quick google or read up on the Toyota website and see how many battery packs have needed to be replaced worldwide by Toyota.

Only a handful. This is not new tech, the first Prius went on sale in 1997.

There are prius cabs in Australia that have done half a million faultless km's on the original battery pack.

    http://en.wikipedia....ki/Toyota_Prius

Toyota even warranty the battery and hybrid components of their cars for 8 years or 160,000km!!! http://www.toyota.co...attery-warranty

Much longer warranty than offered on most components in a car, so they are pretty confident they will last the life of the car.

Also when comparing fuel use don't just go off the flawed ADR stated numbers. Sure some diesels will match a Hybrid in highway or cruising consumption, but will get no where near one in stop start driving. Something alot of us do as 90% of our driving unfortunately.

Now think about the other benefits. No alternator, no plumbed aircon or heating that doesn't work when stationary or cold (they have electric ones), and the list goes on and on.

Hybrids add some complexity, but they also eliminate many other components that can fail during years of ownership.

There is a reason that BMW, Mercedes, and Audi as well as many others are now investing heavily getting on the Hybrid bandwagon.

Don't be afraid of this tech people, the day is fast approaching when itl be common place on even volume selling cars.

Cheers for input Wil! Based on your comments, hybrids are still perceived to be costly to run especially the battery! I think it really comes down to personal preferences especially if you never own a hybrid before....

  6. Hi jonathan, been in that situation myself when first started looking at buying a kluger, I when to about four different dealers and I got different guotes for finance repayments on four different klugers, all klugers were with in a $5000 ball park, so really there shouldnt be much difference in the repayments, but the difference was allmost $250 a month on one kluger, and that was the kluger I loved the most, she was beatifull, ebony kxs awd 2008 model, but buying the kluger I have now, which was only $2000 more, has saved me $250 a month, the finance manager at that particular toyota customised a finance package that suited me and the interest rate was heaps better too, they also gave me a better trade on my prado on the kluger aswell, so mate it definetly pays to make a few phone calls, I did and it payed off.

You can get helpfull service from a dealer and you can go back later with a problem and they dont want to know you, so somtimes I lose faith in some of these dealers.

    Hi David,

I spoke to the finance manager and what dissapoints me the most was the commitment he made on the day when he said `by this afternoon; you will have the information'. Mind you up until now, no email! Like most of the comments about this topic, it's not Toyota but the person representing them. Am I expecting too much?? I guess it's the basic human ethics what counts here.....

  7. My understanding is fuel filter must be changed every 80,000kms or 100,000kms to maximise fuel economy and due to some build up of particles over time. Is it necessary to change it even if you are using 98 octane fuel like BP Ultimate regularly?

  8. Recently made an enquiry with a dealer finance manager for a new quote for a new Kluger, ie, structure a loan repayment to suit my budget. I have requested to provide a quote for KXR, KXS and Grande (all 2WD) and would commit in purchasing if he had shown an interest in my request, I was promised this information will be provided on the last weekend (sent an email last Friday) and to date NO REPLY. Mind you, I bought my Kluger from the same dealer and you would think you will get a priority or at least a prompt service. I guess they have lost my business now.....

Anyone else experienced a bad service from a Toyota Dealer???

  9. Hi All,

Im new in the forum and here is my question.

I would like to upgrade my GPS software (2010 Kluger Grande) and would like to know where you can purchase an alternative over the Toyota software ( $350 to upgrade!) but yet reliable enough to serve its purpose. Or its advisable to purchase from Toyota?

    Thank you.
