  1. It would be wise to get the clutch pedal adjusted first as it is cheaper, but i have herd the problem may come back in a short time.

This did nothing to both my stivos. Although many members here have had success (I dont get it still, you'd think the remedy would work on them all).

So my next step was to get the clutch replaced under warranty on my first sivo (as it was bought new). And for the other stivo i had to use my credit card to get the exedy HD installed (i piad way too much $850) as it was a private sale.

I really beleive the clutch replacement is a 99.9% chance of working (landing above 6k with ease).

I think you'd pay $600+ for the kit and installation

  2. I purchased my 2nd sportivo 2 months ago. And i knew before i bought it it would have this issue. So i had the clutch replaced for exedy HD, and all problems solved! I know cause i have done this twice! I have had my tranny oil replaced, thined out, had my clutch pedal adjusted and been through 6 months of fighting with toyota. The end result both times was to replace the clutch

Its not your driving.. Its very common, dont let people bag your driving when they havent seen you drive. Good luck with it :D

  3. I drive the 03 sportivo with cai

I just got 667kms out of my tank of shell v-power :yahoo:

And that was a mix of hwy & city driving. I have never got such good results with any other fuel, thats just my experience.

I imagine the cai would have helped too.

  4. said without the power fc im looking at 6k installed thats some good haggling though  seeing you can get the mwr stroker kit for $2250 US not shipped that and its relatively straight forward as opposed to turbo and supercharging options

So with FC + tune around 8k.

That would be really fast, and a thrill to drive.

Its stroked to 2 liters right? I wonder how it would compare to a S2000  They put out 250hp at the fly too!

  5. Hey all,

I sold my celica 2zz, (i now have an s2k). And just purchased a 03 Corolla sportivo with 95k for $17,500 (awesome deal!) for my GF.

The rolla had the sticky gear changes and was impossible to shift in to any gear cleanly above 7k. Installed the new excedy clutch and its like a new car again :yahoo: I Can easily land lift every gear. All for $900 at Malven auto tech Glen Iris (melb).

I recommend these guys for clutch replacement. Ask for Brad.

  6. Went down to drag tag tonite to check out all the fuss.

Its actually quite cool. You have 1/4 mile drag racing between 3 people in a virtual world. With your very own ride. 2 drags each for 50 bucks. Your car is held down by a small modification (bracket welded to your suspension) that locks you down so you dont dance around when on the pedal. There is 3 bays with a massive screen that tapers around you in each bay. You have an active speed/kw/tourqe/time guage that is in sync with you car. The lights go green and your reaction time is recorded as you dump the clutch, you can break traction if you give too many revs at take off or push it too hard like in the real world. It's all indoors so you have weather conditions that are perfect 24/7. There's even high speed fans infront of every car, so you cant cook your motor. It's very much like grand turismo, it has that feel. It's very accurate too, if you can run a 14.5 sec 1/4mile time, you will get the same at drag tag.

Theres circut racing in the making and even drifting to come in the near future.. Only thing is it doesn't have g forces, but i dont think they can repilcate that. I give it 9 out of 10 - 20 million well spent.

  7. I own a 7th gen, and had a sportivo before that. I had problems with my car back in 03 with gear crunching and hard shifts into 2nd & 3rd. I got the clutch replaced and it was perfect. My car at the time had only 24,000kms on it. So I'd consider a new clutch from personal experience. (I to also thought the box needed attention, but i was wrong)

how much am i looking at for a new clutch?

also, what are peoples opinions on front strut bars? i was looking at them on ebay, and they're cheap. except, u dont know much about them, but it states that i can take corners at higher speeds, so thats gotta be good:P

Mine was replaced under warranty (After many trips to toyota). Your looking at around $450 fora original clutch from memory, and about the same to fit it. But that was 3 years ago. Ring toyota and ask.

  8. hey guys,

i bought a 2000 model ZR, only 52000k's on it, so im pleased with that..

all in all, its a mad car, EXCEPT for the clutch and gears

i find that when im in 1st at redline, i cant change into second and i crunch heaps.. also sometimes the gear stick seems to need forcing to get it into gear.. sometimes 2nd to 3rd crunches too (minor, but still noticable)

i read the corolla forums and it seems that the corolla sportivo's have the same problems..

anyone else seem to have problems? and is there any fix? i.e different gearbox oil, adjust the clutch maybe?

also, is it just my car or does the celicas take foreva to warm up? i.e a good 5 minutes of driving..

and and one more thing:P when the cars cold and u turn it on, does it struggle abit to idle? but once there, idle's fine....

thanks guys. hope someone can point me in the right direction to fix these issues!!!

I own a 7th gen, and had a sportivo before that. I had problems with my car back in 03 with gear crunching and hard shifts into 2nd & 3rd. I got the clutch replaced and it was perfect. 9. had this exact problem with my sportivo (2years ago), except i was far from home at the time and thought I better change the battery, so i changed it at a servo $90 later. A day later my battery went dead again. Took it to toyota and they replaced the alternator. The car was only 8 months old, so i kinda ruled out the alternator being at fault..

  10. Last Friday i filled up my car with BP Ultimate.. $68.00 .. got 46 litres.. i think after this tank im back to unleaded.. why do ppl say ur better off sticking to BP ultimate? if u guys have any good response den i might consider refilling with BP Ultimate.

I know it is better for the engine.. but i dont think i get more km'z out of the tank.. power just a little bit extra.

I use Mobile Synergy. I have better Kms to a tank with Mobile than i do with optimax. But optimax has a tiny bit more poke.

But i dont worry about it, I just keep my 2zz happy with any premium grade.

  11. hey guys

for all u echo owners out there

im about to buy an echo rush

echo rush has 3 extra features (new rims, fog lights, power windows at the front)

got quoted $18065 for it drive away.

im thinking this is a bit pricey

    what do you guys think?

    Are you replacing the corolla?

There is plenty of good examples of echo's going for under 15k with hardly any kms..

I've seen echo sportivo's go for 13-15k with 3years warranty..

    Check out Carpoint

  12. When my gearbox and clutch was fixed i could do this all the time...

    http://media.putfile.com/Rolla_2zz

When you say fixed, do you mean fixed by Toyota or did you swop in your own aftermarket clutch?

    hi,

I had lots of issues with shifting gears above 7500rpms, after complaing for 3 months, toyota replaced gear linkages and the clutch under waranty. I dont have the car anymore, but if i did i would have gone a stronger clutch as mine was on its way out after 20000kms after its replacement. But if you drive it like a idiot all the time thats what you get.

  13. veryy nice!

was ur 0-100 time abou 7.x secs?

    stock as a rock right?

Stock as a rock.. If you fall off the 6k mark when shifting from 1st-2nd you fall into the 'torque hole' which really slows your time. So shift hard and fast and you'll beat any manafactures claims.. I have no idea what my 0-100 time there was.. But it seems faster than 8.2sec (what toyota claims).

  14. The rain is a great challenge :D I try to feed the power on in a straight line, if you press hard on the accelerator it will obvioulsy break traction. Even in "lift" just feed it on.. Also shift before 7500 in the 2zz so you shift and revs drop to around 5k so you can keep the traction..

I raced a 7th gen celica when i had my stivo in the wet, that was fun.. 2 front drivers scrabbling for any sort of traction. He beat me though.. :(
