  1. Hi,

I'm purchasing a pair of Xenon Hid bulbs for my 2007 aurion presara but I've heard there are heaps of fake phillip bulbs on the market, Toyota want $490 for each bulb which I find very expensive, I found this eBay seller who claims his are genuine, they are $350 for a pair

Does anyone believe these may be fakes??

    Here is the link

  2. Hi guys,

I have a stock 2007 Aurion Presara that has the standard 17inch rims on it, I want to change them to the Roh Mantis black (in picture below) they are available in 17inch but they don't look as nice compared to 18 or 19inch, I have no clue when it comes to tires so I was wondering if anyone knows what is the largest size I can go too and if so what else may have to be modified? And the costs of doing so?

    Cheers,

  3. Hey everyone,

Okay so this is now a long story so I'll try and make it short,

About 6 months ago I bought my car (2007 Toyota Aurion, Presara), everything on it was fine, the lights were great until about 3 months ago when the right side low beam (HID) started failing (Note: These D4S low beam bulbs are apparently the original ones that came with the car, so genuine toyota bulbs), at first I thought it was blown, but I could turn the light switch off and back on again and the right side low beam would work again for about 4 minutes than fail again,

So I thought perhaps the bulb just needs replacing, about 2 weeks after that the left one started doing the same thing? So I decided to get new bulbs, however, I went too toyota and they told me it would cost $550 per bulb, I just couldn't afford it at that time, nor would I want to pay so much for a light bulb anyway, so I bought a pair of Phillips D4S 8000K (2000K higher intensity than the genuine bulbs) I installed them myself as it is a relatively easy task,

This is what confuses me, with the new bulbs installed the right low beam was still failing! But the left one was working perfectly!

I took it to toyota, told them all of this and said to me they won't do anything till I replace them with genuine toyota bulbs...

So I took my car to an auto electrician, he says the problem is that the right ballast needs replacing, but I am confused as to why the left one had the problem and now is working? He tells me that even if I replace it, it may just fail again in 3 months time?

Anyway does anyone have advise on this, what to do etc? Hopefully Im not the only one who has had this problem?

    Cheers,

  4. So my low beam light bulbs (type: d4s) blew the other day and I'am considering of upping the colour intensity, the stock d4s are 6000k (white) and I can't decide between 8000k (iceberg blue) and 10000k (brilliant blue) anyone one here have any experience on this?

  5. the presara has HID projectors as opposed to the others with halogen projectors. the headlight assembly is different on the back, u cant just plug new HIDs in. think this is due to the turning headlights/auto height adjustable mechanism that lies within.

So I can't just replace the blown bulb, I have to replace the entire assembly? I would've thought the HID bulb would just click into the back of the turning headlights mechanism?

  6. True but the Presara model does have xenon/HID projectors unlike the AT-X models

He's correct. My car has Halogen projectors. Sportivo ZR6 and Presara both have HID projectors.

    ATX - Halogen

    Touring (mine) - Halogen

    Sportivo SX6 - Halogen

    Prodigy - Halogen

Sportivo ZR6 - Xenon (known as HID)

Presara - Xenon (known as HID)

Is that true for 2008 pre face lift models? Im pretty sure mine are halogen

Pretty sure it is correct, mines a 2007 Presara and it has Xenon/HID projectors

  7. Your best most affordable way is simply upgrade to HID .

Kits are available on eBay for $50 and you install yourself.

Don't think that would be a good idea, as the Aurion has halogen projectors not HID projectors

True but the Presara model does have xenon/HID projectors unlike the AT-X models

  8. Okay so last night I went out to my car and the left low beam light is out and the right is starting to flicker, called Toyota today and they told me its $550 for one light bulb and that I will need two cause the right one is about to die, so that's $1100!!! For light bulbs!!! Called another electronic shop and he reckons he can installed a bluish white HID bulb for about $50-$70 what are your thoughts on this? Anyone else had this problem with their low beams on the Presara models?

  9. actually just thinking, presaras had the upgraded JBL or whatever system didn't they ? cos if so, i believe they had an amp already in the car

Yea they are JBL, that's what I mean, the sound is actually pretty damn good, just sort of needs a but more of a punch?

  10. Wow, this is quite expensive, thankyou I have heard the alpine systems are really good but I was just wondering am I able to keep the standard head unit as it is the say nav type in the Presara model? And just run an amp to power the new speakers to it? Just can't afford a new head unit is all?

  11. Hey, I've done a full system upgrade in my car.

firstly, if you want better sound, upgrade the head unit. you can find a whole thread about an aftermarket head unit on ebay on this forum. otherwise you can buy a headunit from a car audio store. depending on your budget you can go a single din or double din, singles being often cheaper. single being headunits usually only having a small screen. doubles most likely being full audio visual units.

next, you'll want to consider speakers. higher quality speakers = better sound (in most cases). 6.5" component or coaxials in the front doors, and 6x9" in the rear for your bassy notes. however keep in mind that more powerful speakers will require a 4 channel amp, so theres more money from your pocket. most lower end speakers will run without an amp, and run off the head unit instead.

finally, the sub. no matter what sub you get, you'll have to run an amp. so look around carefully. cheaper subs can cost around 150$-200$. but then take into account an amp to run it which can cost around 150$-300$.

you can easily get a double din headunit and a set of 4 speakers for ~800$, but add in the sub/subs and you'll be pushing the 1000$ mark.

if you want to know more, PM me and i can help.

Thankyou very much for that :) very informative, I think if I'm going to replace the back speakers I might as well put in a decent amp, front tweeters, new speakers and a sub, thanks again

  12. Hi I was going through a post on here and they were talking about adding aux inputs into the head unit of their aurions, some one there said that their sat nav units had a auxiliary input on the back of their head unit, I was wondering if this was it (bottom right hole in picture below the white cord) if so how do you activate aux mode, I've tried clicking mode on steering wheel and clicking disc but still nothing?

  13. Hey great stuff... thanks shane. This is basically what I was going to do but you have just made it a whole lot easier for me. I have the 4 disc changer with satnav in mine.... it has the aux input on the back of the my unit. Why toyota release the vehicle without an in car connection to it beats me!!

Hi I have also pulled out my navigation head unit and also found the aux in connection, I have installed the cable but how did you turn on the aux on the stereo to play music through the cable?

  14. Hi, I have a 2007 Presara and I am thinking about upgrading the stereo system as the rear speakers are very distorted when I start to turn the volume up around 35, I'm so confused about stereo systems tho, I want aux/USB connectivity, better bass response and abit more clarity, I was thinking of only installing a small sub to begin with as I don't have too much money to spend at this moment but I've heard I would need an amp for this, not sure what amps exactly do and how expensive they are but what are your opinions on this matter?

    Cheers

  15. 3M double sided tape is the best for them, you can trim the width down to suit the strip, if they ever blow or you take them off later you can remove it easily without damaging the chrome, glue could affect it, give the LEDs and the area you are sticking them to a wipe with an alcohol swab, the medical ones from the chemist are the same that you get with a lot of self adheasive stuff, it will hold well if parts are clean before you stick them on. Let us know how they look, pics if you can. These are the ones I go from Supercheap, they came with adheasive tape on them, the other pic is the Philips DRLs I mounted under the bumper. I have an over-ride switch to stop mine from turning off when the park lights if I want them to stay on, normally though they turn off with park.

Thankyou, I've just ordered that tape :) those led's look awesome! We did you get them? The ones on the headlight

  16. Thankyou very much for the diagram, very helpful :)

Just wondering, what could I use to stick these led strips to the chrome part above the fog light? Adhesive tape? Perhaps just glue, I don't want them dangling around and not notice haha :)

  17. Hi Mallabullaergo,

LEDs are very low amperage so don't draw much power, are the strips waterproof?, that would be the only issue that may short the wiring if moisture can get in. I have strips from Supercheap that are waterproof just stuck to the front on my headlights but the are wired to the ignition with a relay and turn off automatically with the park lights and I also have a switch for them, it is a legal requirement that they switch off when the park is switched on but not sure how much it's enforced, they may not bother unless they get you for something else plus the police are now booking people for having there fog lights on, something to do with using them not for the purpose for which they are ment (fog or rain). If you are running them off the fog lights I would use a relay with a fuse so they get power off the battery, I have been told that when SMD LEDs blow they can create a short that feeds back down the wiring and can melt it (worst case senario), not sure if those ones you have are SMD LEDs, this was said in regards to replacing interior and other lights with LED bulbs. I asked the police about lighting and was told blue is a police/emergency colour as VIPZR6 has said you would get a defect.

    Cheers

Thankyou for that, very helpful!! :) I'm not to concerned about it being illegal cause as you said having fog lights on is illegal anyway, so I'll just turn them on when I want I think :)

Could you please assist me in how to install a relay fuse, the wires on these lights are very short too?

  18. Hi, I have a 2007 Toyota Aurion Presara sedan and I have recently bought two led strips to place just above the fog lights, is it safe to wire these led lights into the existing fog lamp connection and run both? I'm worried about a fire? But I have tried this and they seem to run fine, and the plastic on the is well away from the lamp,

Is there any precautions I should take like fire proof tape?

Here is what they look like :)
