  1. Hi Everyone, my wife would like the settings on her 2011 RAV ZR6 changed so the doors have a two stage unlock when the unlock on the remote is pressed. ie. Driver's door unlock on the first press and then passanger doors on the second press. Our previous 2000 and 2002 Camry's had this, and she likes the security of knowing that someone won't get in the passanger's door when she unlocks the car. I asked the dealer to do this, but they don't think it is possible anymore in the parameters. There is another post which gives the parameters for a 2006 RAV4, The parameter is :- UNLOCK / 2 OPER and does what my wife wants. The Australian owner's manual doesn't list anything like this, but I got hold of a 2011 American manual which lists what can be done and it has the feature listed "Driver's door unlocked in one step, all doors unlocked in two steps" Does anyone know whether this is possible on the later Australian RAV4's and if someone has actually done it? It would be good to know whether it appears in the dealer's service manual and a page number (or a scan of the page) so i can give it to the dealer. Thanks, Ian
  2. Thanks for letting us know the outcome, I had no idea that button even existed (I had to find it on my kluger once you mentioned it)... it is mentioned in the manual but it took me two attempts to find it, there is so much to learn! No need to feel like a goose, I don't think many people would know it is there, including the dealers...unless someone had had your problem!
  3. Hi, the only 'trick' I found to operate the door, the button on the remote (or inside) has to be held down (rather than a quick press) to make it operate. I didn't realise that when I first got the car, but either found it in the manual or on forums. If it does as you described when the button is held down for two or three seconds then it sounds faulty to me. Something the dealers should show everyone when they pick up the car!
  4. That is good news, it seems unusual it was the original stereo, because it means something in the factory stereo went faulty. In my experience of Toyota's most of the problems over the years are in after market products...the only electrical problem I have ever had was an airbag sensor unit going faulty on my 2002 Camry...but I travel across dirt roads every day. Thanks for the update
  5. Hi, this is just a thought, in terms of your description of the problem...I have never experienced this in my kluger, but I did initially have what you described when an after-market mobile phone hands free unit was fitted to my Camry. The controller unit had to be moved to stop ignition noise (similiar to what you described) being feed out of the handsfree speaker which was mounted under the dash (mine was on the steering column, but that is at the installer's descretion). Based on your description of the problem (considering it happens whether the stereo is on or off), I'm wondering whether a handsfree unit has been left in the car and not removed, because it would switch on with the ignition and could make the noise. It is just a guess, but a possibility..best to find the source of the sound, perhaps by turning the car on and reving it a bit if you can...or just having a good look under the dash for any sign of a black handsfree speaker...if you find one, the quickest way to stop the noise would be just to remove the speaker. If it was bought from a dealer, and you find a kit, I'd get them to remove the whole kit, if a private sale, an auto-electrician could quickly remove it. Good Luck, it will be interesting to know what you find
  6. My stereo doesn't seem do that, but it is a MY11 grande model... sounds like a fault to me, I'd be checking with the services guys at Canberra Toyota. Ian
  7. I'd just go to a place that does e-safety inspections in NSW, to ask their opinion (my local toyota dealer does mine) They have all the relevant manuals and should be able to tell you if it would fail an inspection, Considering you are looking at just upgrading to the factory Grande wheels, I would have thought these would be OK, but it is a lot of money to spend if they are illegal, although it would take a good inspector to realise they weren't the originals...cars aren't inspected until they are 5 years old, so if they were illegal it would be picked up then, or during a random check.
  8. I would really want to know the full history of the car before I bought one that has done about 55,000km / year, it is very high mileage. I just gave my 2002 Camry v6 to my son ...it had done 250K, and I do about 25K a year. It doesn't use any oil etc, but the dealer would give me less than $5000 for it. While $18,000 is great for a 2008 kluger, it has still done very high mileage so it is certainly a risk buying it.... and $18,000 is a lot to pay if something goes wrong. I think I would only buy it, if I could talk to the previous owner, and be happy at how it got that many kms, and it would have to have been serviced properly by a toyota dealer for me to even consider it. Good luck with you decision!
  9. Hi Everyone, i've just joined the forum today, but have owned toyota's for 10 years and are completely sold on them compared to other cars. I started with a 2000 Hiace commuter bus (4 kids in 2002 were hard to seat, particularly on trips), I still own the bus and it has only done 88K, I then bought a 2000 4 Cyl Camry for my wife in 2003 and I followed her with a V6 2002 Camry, both of which have travelled over 200K and have never failed once... must be to do with the Toyota servicing. We have just changed cars, she has a 2011 ZR6 RAV4 AWD and I have a 2010 MY11 Kluger Grande AWD...unbelieveable is all I can say, and of course no faults to report...my V6 camry went to one of my sons and still has no faults or oil usage after 250K on the clock! It is great to join the forum. Ian
