  1. (Have mates with both so I need to be careful what I recommend)

Hey K, I would go the IS250 - decent upgrade but still practical.

If buying the 350Z means you keep the 'rolla, then you won't get to enjoy a better car everyday rather than have two lots of rego & etc.

Can pick up a few easy KW's (and intake roar) with the ISF intake too.

Prices for the IS250 should soften a little with the arrival of the IS350 too. Another advantage is that the IS250 is still the current shape whereas the 350Z is now starting to look a little old against the 370Z.

Having said that, the 350Z is a great car for what it is. If you do go a 350z, get a fixed roof Track version with the Brembo brakes and 18's standard (know you want the convertible, but take a look at one anyway!)

Convertibles are no real drama - the roof lets more heat through than you would imagine, and "wind in the hair" motoring isn't always good for your hairstyle either. I have had 3 different convertibles (2 mx5s and a 4x4) and only the 4x4 got broken into while parked.

Take both for a drive - and buy whichever you like best!! Enjoy shopping :)

  2. This won't help you now, but I had one and could not get rid of it, ended up dumping it for something like $40 from memory!

There was an eBay user called Kelvin (with a few numbers after his name) that used to reguarly list the grille and eyelid combo for pre-facelift. Best of luck!

  3. To find one, supercharged, that looks to have been so well cared for is very rare indeed.

Almost as rare as someone willing to part with over 20k for a five year old Corolla! A tough market, considering you can grab a runout Focus XR5 for $32k.......brand new with zero kays!

Still, the market only one buyer to function correctly. The dude selling it doesn't care what anyone else thinks other than the one person who turns up with a bundle of $50's and drives home.

Imagine what a dealer would offer the poor owner of this if he went to trade it in? :o

Someone will end up with a good buy if he is serious about selling.

  4. Always worth a look at that price!!!

REVS check is worth your money...might save you going for a drive....

It also says it only has one key - I'd haev to ask why would a car with such low kays have only one key?

The engine bay looks nice and clean.......considering I had a guy off the street ask to buy mine the other day (!) it would be a cheap upgrade!

  5. Man, I am bored at work, so to help you out.......

    10k Ascent Sport

    10k Black Manual 05 Ascent

    10k 06 Ascent

    10k Ascent auto 59ks

There we go - 3 facelift hatch options for you under 10k. The last one even has decent kays, and if it has a clean history doesn't look like bad value.

I draw the line at ringing and negotiating the prices for you.......my boss has paid for enough research for you now.

  6. Most recent auction results I have from work confirm my earlier comment

Toyota Corolla ZZE12 Ascent Seca 01/2007 Hatch 28,392 Silver Leaf 1.8L Ei Petrol 4spd Automatic $16,100

Toyota Corolla ZZE12 Ascent Seca 11/2006 Hatch 49,272 Silver Leaf 1.8L Ei Petrol 4spd Automatic $11,750

Toyota Corolla ZZE12 Ascent Seca 11/2006 Hatch 44,542 Glacier White 1.8L Ei Petrol 4spd Automatic $11,250

Now this is decent clean stock with one owner and log books - you may find an older, manual, repaired one for less - and is that what you really want? Priovate sales will be your best bet as dealers are not being really kind with trade ins at present.

Anyhow, that's enough from me, you've got some work cut out for you now!

  7. Sorry guys I didn't realize it was this much. I just thought it was simpler. Is it possible to get a facelift Corolla for $7000-7500. I'm kind of strapped for cash right now. I know I should look on car sites but I mean local dealer and auctions, does anyone have any near by?

I would say No. But.... <_<

    2005 Toyota Corolla Ascent ZZE122R 5Y

    * Private Price Guide $9,500 - $11,200

    * Trade In Price Guide $7,300 - $9,000

    * Average Km 80,000 - 130,000

    (extract courtesy redbook.com.au)

Now, if you beleive Redbook, you could theoretically pick up a base model Ascent manual in the range you are talking.

Street pricing differs markedly to this though as I can't recall seeing a facelift sell below 10k yet.

Have a look on Carsales.com.au - you could prove me wrong :whistling:

  8. I think some of you guys are missing the point that he is making. If you think the ratios on the 1zz are geared too short then you won't be happy with a stivo or the 6 speed box. I sit close to 4000 at only 110.

So in other words upgrade to a Celica instead of a Sportivo? Even then that'll only drop a coulpe hundred rpm from a Sportivo at 120km/h.

    Fair call.

    Let's paint a picture -

You have two cars next to each other on the road,

    both sitting at 4000rpm,

one with 4200rpm left to give,

    one with 2000rpm,

which would you rather be in?

(I mena, technically, I could recommend a VX SS with an LS1 and T56, where he could do under 2000rpm in 6th if the whole point of the exercise was just to drop revs :P but I reckon advising WRCFella to look at the stivo was a good move)

  9. G'day WRCFella,

The gearbox for sale HERE is probaly one of the cheapest you'll find. If you were to get a mechanic to fit it, I'd be allowing approx $1k for his work, and allow for a new clutch in the mix there too.

I would be thinking that with frieght, parts, oil and other incidentals this job would realistically end up somewhere between $3-4k. If you are handy, or have mates who can spin the spanners for you, you could come out of it cheaper. And you may also be able to offload the 5spd too

You probably don't want to hear this, but I'm going to say it anyway -

the cheapest way for you to get the 6spd box would be to sell your Ascent and buy a Sportivo, and enjoy all of the goodies that come with it (2ZZ motor, climate control, leather etc.) Any good bolt-on stuff you have on your Ascent should be transferrable too.

Based on that - look at what your Ascent is worth, have a look at what sportivos are going for online and maybe consider making the switch. If the difference in their values is only about that 4k mark.......seriously give some thought to joining the 8200rpm club

  10. Agree 100% re: attitude - Cops are generally reasonable if you are not an a55. Yeah, there are always exceptions to this, but always start any conversation thinking they are decent, (until they prove otherwise).

Also, there is nothing to stop you getting a Sportivo tyre placard for your ZZE, or better yet, a custom one to dodge this problem.

Sheesh, I run 18's and have never had a problem.

Man, your friend must have found a picky cop, or pi55ed them off bad somehow!

  11. Going to list the Sportivo at $12K I think, couple of small scratches (to be expected for a 7 year old car) and I just want a quick sale, do you guys think this is a fair price?

Doesn't sound too far off the mark depending on kays, colour and add-ons of course.

Still seems to be some demand out there, but not a rush, although the ZZE's are starting to look a little older. Values in general have had a bit of a tumble as people get used to the look of the ZRE (it took me a while). Plenty of decent stuff on the used market from other brands for decent money at the moment too.

    Congrats on the new ride!

  12. sorry to dig up old thread but update:

this is what the levin cluster looks like in my car

Would love to see that given a good run through the first few gears.....I reckon the tacho needle would *almost* touch the speedo!!!!! Also good to see your passenger's face as the tacho swings past the last markings!

I can confirm the kays are stored in the cluster.

  13. Macquarie Pass...west of Albion Park (Illawarra Highway)

Watch out for slow trucks & idiotic motor cyclists tho. Continue on for a few k's to Robertson Pie Shop and then pick your run home - your choice if you do the Pass again or head west to the Hume Highway for an easy run home.

  14. I asked this guy what he wanted for the rear lip and he quoted $220 - which is cheaper than toyota, but why would I pay half the price of a four piece kit for one part? If he had come back with around $100-$150 I would have given it a go, as I don't see the rear lip being as damage prone as the front lip and side skirts.....

.....if anyone does buy it, please be sure to let us know how you go!!
