  1. BB Modded CAI (search in newcelica.org) is best of stock ecu.

If you are planning to get aftermarket ecu such as PFC. Then AEM for mid range or Injen for top end.

Some of the ebay CAI are copy of AEM gen 1 CAI.

Most people purchase from ebay or newcelica.org sponsors.

    Hey Guys,

    I have celica SX 1999

I am really want to buy Cold Air Intake ? What do you guys suggest ?

Please let me know the best band to buy and where to buy ?

For example from Ebay or can I buy it directly form manufactures web site?

Is there any dealers in Melbourne?

    Cheers

    Pras

  2. study this view well jimmy ...... a sight u should continue to see from ur sports coupe' ...... the rear end of my family rice bubble as its leaving u down the straight :P :P :P :P

Damn.. I gotta look at that ugly thing? See... that's why I don't race you.

  3. Do I smell a track weapon, SuperDave? B)

Surely you could get a perspex manufacturer to make you something of the same size, and then use windscreen type seals??

I'd get it welded up. From a wrecked celica or something.

That's what they do with the production race cars.

  4. Hahaha.. I'm not in competition with Bill. Never built my car to be. ATM, there's no competition anyways. Comparing a old worn out standard engine/gearbox against a full-built engine/gearbox is just silly.

Anyways Bill's just small beans :P, I've got MUCH bigger goals (size of the turbo is a good indication of my plans, still too small even), but full-time uni and no job will be holding me back for awhile. Main goal right now is to keep it at a safe level so that the engine will hold up till I finish uni and get a job. But, I will be heading back to the track in the winter and aim for 12s on street tyres/standard engine. Once I've done that, it will be time for some slicks.

come on jimmy ...... a little more ..... i mean .... how can the family rice bubble b handing the sports coupe its a.s.s to it ;) ;) :P

You need your car to be fast because afterall. It's still a family rice bubble, no matter what you do to it.

Oh no... TOCAU is mostly corolla members...

  5. 1999 is the changeover year for celica. The older st204 (5sfe) and the newer zzt-231 (2zz-ge) were for sale at the time.

The older st204 is the one with twin round headlights and come with the 5sfe 2.0L 100kw economy engine, regardless of it being sx or zr. Except for jap imports ones that come with teh 3sge.

The newer zzt231 are the current shape one minuse the updated front bar in 2005-onwards. All the zzt231 comes with the 2zz-ge performance 141kw engine same as the ones that come in Corolla sportivo and lotus exige/some elise. The main feature the zr have over sx is abs brakes, 16" wheels, sunroof as standard, red interior, aluminium pedals and door sill and side airbags. Therefore, the zr weighs abit more, but the 1/4mile times on both sx and zr are approximately the same.

Also as stated above, there are minor ecu differences in the years. Can't remember to be exact but it's something like:

1999 having lift at 6000 and rev limit at 8450rpm.

2000-2001,2003-2004 having lift at 6200 and rev limit at 8350rpm.

2002, 2005 having lift at 6200 and rev limit at 7800rpm.

  7. Just received my extractors from CES. They're sitting on the bedroom floor atm :)

The reason I went with CES ones was because I live in Perth. If a place like Head 2 Head could post them then I would get them as they are cheaper, but I will find out how good the CES ones are :D

mow much including postage mate ?

Cost me 570 incl postage. I get 200 back when I return my factory manifold :)

please excuse my ignorance, but ive been through the whole thread, and there is not a single mention of the PPE header... is there a reason for that???

    I think reason being:

    - Costs too much to ship from US

    - I think you have to chop up the front pipe as the ppe header is longer and isn't just a bolt on application

    - And I don't think anyone has tried it here in Aus

But the gains do look impressive.

At the moment there are 3 celica's all in brissy with ppe headers. 2 on n/a celica and one on rotrex celica. All with pretty decent gains. It's not a big job to get fitted, any exhaust shop can do it.

  8. Hurry up with the vipec.. I'm waiting for you guys to be the guinea pig before I jump on board.

so have you got rid of the silly car yet Jimmy and bought a corolla??? :toast::yahoo:

Now that's silly aint it.. Nope, not selling it for time being. Having abit of fun with it first. :spiteful:

no ..... i'd say its finally seeing the light and upgrading to a superior model :P :P :P :P :P

Going from a 2 door "sports car" to a 4 door "family car "??? Hmmm..... :P

You just want me to join you guys because I'm cool... :P :P :P :P

  9. a stock gen2 3sgte usually puts down 140-150kw atw. That's only about 100kw less than Bill

btw, my previous post was wrong about bills car having 250hp, its actually 250 kws which is equivalent to about 325 hp off the top of my head.

    Yeah get it right next time :P :P :P :P .... and its 335WHP :P :P :P :P :P

332.98hp to be exact Bill.. :P

  10. If Bill(xoom) cant get 250 horsies to stick to the floor on a 2ZZGTE, how are you planning on getting traction from a 3SGTE?

The weight of the 3sgte compared to the 2zz might help. Plus oversized street radials and good lsd.

If your really interested in the conversion and have deep deep DEEP pockets. Then take a look at fensport corolla + fensport celica + 3sgte celica (fwd) on newcelica. But hey, out of the 100 people that say they want to do a 3stge swap, 99 of them won't.

Turboing the 2zz is a much smarter idea. 400hp is acheivable and be plenty for fwd car that weigh 1100-1200kg.

Oh yeh... and there's that hideous 3sgte pikes peak celica.

  11. i signed up to view their forum about a week ago and i still cant post or view almost anything :help: whats the go ???

Did you sign up with a hotmail/yahoo account?

Ozcelica only accept "private" email account like bigpond, optus, work/uni/government etc.

Also it must be validated by the mod of the forum, it has been quite slow lately.
