  1. If you want to get some type of recognition then it might be worth contacting Skills Tech TAFE in QLD, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes, K2 is rubbish. But that is what happens when you take a tool made for the US market and try and sell it here. The tool that you would be doing it with ( There is only one other option) is a much better choice.

    Programming..

    Door open

key in ignition and out x2

    close and open door x2

    key in ignition and remove

    close door and insert key

On/ off 1 time to add remote

    remove key

press lock and unlock together for 2 seconds

release and then press any button

    Repeat for other remote

open the door or key on/ off to exit programming

So same program for typical 50171, sick thanks,

It was skills tech who told me there is no actuall recognition for an auto locksmith, bascially told me to go become an actual lock smith. but even then they gave me the impression (and many other locksmiths) it would be a waste of time doing the whole course, love the technology soooo much fun, even got to do a H chip last year :D ive had locksmiths asking me to show them my skills so they could learn and they would help me get a locksmith ticket but that really dosnt help me because they are not the skills im looking for. *sigh* anyhow, thanks for your thoughts and info, I will keep the thread posted as to how i go.

    :D

  2. Valid points, Qld does not actually have a recognised system for auto locksmithing, I got in touch with a few people asking to get my skills recognised and they bascially said that there is no qualification in QLD that will recognise an auto locksmith, and most of the locksmiths in SEQ have no idea about auto, there really is only about a hand full of us who have any idea and no one wants to share info so makes it hard moving forward.

Yea i had realised that the programing requires a master Key, im planning on using a little machine which makes a copy of the transponder (in about 5 seconds) then using another machine to produce the remote (similar to the K forge system however the k forge is a sack of crap) with that said im hoping i can make an after market version with little trouble, but if the above info you pointed out about the 50171 is correct am i right in assuming the programming procedure for the remote stays the same?

    e.g
    door open

    insert remove, insert key remove,

close door, open door, close door, open door,

    insert key remove key,

close door, open door, close door, open door, close door,

insert key turn to on for 2 sec then turn off and remove, ect..........

Im going out of my way to do this job while on a holiday, would rather not waste my time if it wont work. (whats funny though is the minit store in the area where im passing to do the job quoted him 200$ for a key but had no idea how to do a remote haha so you are still right about most minit store having no idea)

  3. 60030 remote is for 2000 - 2003

    50171 remote is for 2003+

the resellers on Fleabay normally don't know what they are selling though.

Yes the transponder chip will be different between the 05 and 02

Also Mr Minit are NOT Locksmiths, it's a very short course on key ID and cutting. Locksmithing is a 4 year apprenticeship.. Sorry, I had to say that.

Hey hey thanks for the info, just read the thread and great info as I’m

about to attempt to make an aftermarket remote/key flip for a customer of mine.

    Appreciate the notes.

I also wanted to point out that yes you are right in the sense that Mister

Minit are not locksmiths and it is a 4 year course. However you are wrong in

suggesting that a locksmith is an auto locksmith. to be an Auto Locksmith you

do not require any qualifications to classed as an auto locky however to attend

any of the auto locksmith workshops you have to hold a locksmith licence (bureaucratic

bull*S*H**). Now in saying what I just said most locksmiths really don’t have

much of a clue about Auto Locksmithing on new vehicles (new being anything

after 1997 pretty much). Only pointed this out because I own a minit

franchise and I am the most experienced on the gold coast when it comes to car

keys, sadly there is soooo much to learn and every day I find a new challenge.

So thank you for your advice but don’t bag Minit as a whole because some of us

know what we are doing ;)

Back to the original post. Like I mentioned I’m about to attempt to make an

aftermarket unit, if successful I will post details and I will be happy to make

the remotes and sell them to those needing replacements. Please note if successful

the remote will be programmed on board however the transponder will require a

special machine to program it. Details to follow.

    Kind regards.
