  1. haha $1500 for a 20v with box is cheap these days... its getting hard to find any 4ages these days.

4age would be good if you plan on driving between 4000-7200rpm all the time.

imo a 7afe convo would be better overall daily driving for the said budget.

The AE93R corolla RV 7AFE motor would be the best bet, motor should fit in (might need to grind abit off the block to fit the transfercase), engine loom should connect up (havent tried but they are from the same era/series, so should?

anyways if your really after a 4age motor, i have a complete running 1986 AE82 Corolla Twincam series 2 (4AGE TVIS, 86kw on 91ron, etc... engine vgc, but 2nd gear syncro is farked)

    $800 located in tullamarine

  2. depends on the value of the car/effort

in my Corolla AE71 coverting from 4A-C auto to 4AGE manual i needed:

Manual clutch cylinder, clutch line and slave

Manual T50 Gearbox and Tailshaft (the sera wouldnt have a tailshaft but the auto/man drive shafts may be different?)

Manual Pedal box (had to remove the whole dash, was a #$%$ to work with)

RWD 4AGE (had Manual ECU, Flywheel/clutch, etc)

inaddition had to drill 2 holes in the firewall for the clutch cylinder

widen the shifter hole in the transmission tunnel (would assume u would need the manual shifter + cables for fwd)

the whole conversion was easy enough, but it did cost me quite abit (very hard to find parts and expensive ae86 crap).

not sure if the 4efe (c52?) starlet gearbox would bolt into the sera 5efe gearbox (c155?).

if it does then the conversion should be alot cheaper if you bought a complete ep91 wreck for like $500 or something with rear dmg.

  3. its teh VVTiL!

nah its the thermo fan coming on when the temp gets to a certain point. it will stay on until the engine cools down to a certain point then repeat then the coolent heats up again.

it would be more frequent when in traffic but driving on freeways it shouldnt be so offten (or not at all).

keep an eye on your temp guage.

  4. the drums should just come off, handbrake still on?

normally i remove the drums to adjust it.

if u want an upgrade, the AE82 Twincam have front vented disks and rear soild disks

Found pics of my old 1988 AE82 Series 2 Twincam hatchback.

    had a AE92 4AGZE with 5spd LSD E58 gearbox.

Nevo Pully running 14psi, 2.25" cat back exhaust (not too loud), VR4 FMIC & home made CAI w/ k&n panel filter.

Superlow springs, kyb shocks & rear whiteline swaybar.

    Best $2500 ever spent.

  5. some copies like the Koya Drift Teks (Taiwan) aka TE37 copy are pretty decent, commonly found on drift nissans.

Had SSR Longchamps XR4's 3piece on my ae86, very light wheels, also very strong :S

jdm wheels are superior, but could you justify them on a daily drive? $4000 vs $600...but id pay $1000-1500 2nd hand
