  1. You are getting quite similar fuel consumption to what we originally got when I started this thread. From your description, your typical drive to work is similar to what our car is going through. Would be interesting when you fill up to confirm that the trip computer is giving accurate results. Our ATX has no trip computer so always done manually. Still averaging about 14-14.5 for peak hour suburban commute now with 9500km on the clock.
  2. Trust me, I've seen what happens to people when you swerve to miss a Roo and hit a tree instead. Moral of the story, often better to hit the Roo rather than swerve.
  3. I'll give you some real world info. I own both an Aurion and a Mazda 6 manual (not the new one). Aurion City driving 100%. Stop start, no freeway. Now after 9000km. We are getting 14-14.5 L/100km. Freeway driving at 110km/h we have gotten down to 8.6L/100km. Tank is 70L. You do the maths. We usually put in about 50L when filling up. Mazda 6 manual. City. I think the worst I have ever gotten is about 10.5L/100km. My usual work drive of busy motorway driving in peak hour gets me about 8.7L/100km. Country driving I think has been about 7.5L/100km. I'd definitely say, if you are doing city only driving and don't have a compelling reason for V6 definitely go the 4 cylinder. Prices are $1.60 today and don't expect a price drop in the future. Although bear in mind Mazda 6 needs premium 95RON minimum.
  4. Also remember, just dragging files from file explorer onto a cd drive does not copy them to the cd until you then click to "burn" them.
  5. I did. They said they checked everything and did an ECU reset. The fuel economy is much the same in the city. 14-15L/100km. We did take it on the freeway and on freeway only driving managed to get 8.6L/100km. So don't really know whether it's just something we have to accept. I will get them to check to make sure no spark plug problems at the next service, but that may be 4 months away.
  6. Don't feel you are alone. Check out my thread. http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...showtopic=13102 Our Aurion is still not doing too well on the economy. I have had it checked at the dealership and they said they did a check and ? ECU reset and said for me to see how it went. Since then I have done a freeway run of about 250km which got me figures of 8.6 L /100km. So I think my car is capable of good economy. However around the city we mostly get 14-15L/100km. I've had various people tell me either there is something wrong with my car, to I'm foolish to expect fuel consumption anywhere near 9.9 as quoted on the sticker for a 6 cylinder car. Somebody mentioned about taking their car to a dealership and finding out one of the spark plugs was dead and maybe this was causing poor economy. I would have expected Toyota to find this if they had connected the car up to the diagnostics system. My current feeling is that people's weekly driving habits probably differ quite significantly and even if you live in the city, if you spend a lot of the time on motorways, perhaps your economy will be better. We drive mostly suburban and rarely motorway or freeway, 20 min trip x2 per day in normal moving traffic.
  7. Thanks for all your information. The more I read the more paranoid I get that there is something wrong with our car. Your fuel economy would be unheard of in our Aurion. I'll ask the dealer about an ECU reset. I think the biggest factor affecting our fuel economy has got to be where we live. It is suburban Sydney and my wife has to drive about 6 suburbs down. So truly city driving with no freeways to stretch the car's legs. I do feel that the info about he car having to wear in is a bit wrong given that you've had such great fuel economy from the beginning. By the way the 1000km service is just an inspection. They don't change anything including the oil. I'll have to find some time to take the car into the dealership.
  8. how is it possible to start using 3rd GEAR! <_< I am 100% that when the car stop it will automatically shift down to 1st, then once it starts rolling, 1st/2nd/3rd.... It will stay in 3rd unless you shift up. Yes what I am saying is that in other cars with "manual" mode options on the automatic transmission, they will not override your choice. So if you put it in 3rd, then the car sticks in 3rd. This is a true manual mode. As an example of this I can only quote the mazda 6. If you are in 3rd gear in MANUAL mode, it will only automatically go to 1st if you come to a complete stop. Otherwise if you slow down then try to accelerate, the car will stay in 3rd because YOU are controlling the gears. The Aurion is not like this and this is what I found strange. In the Aurion, if you put it in 4 and then slow down, then want to accelerate, the car will change down to the appropriate gear. This is not like a manual. By selecting 4, you are not CHOOSING 4th gear, you are only telling the auto it can only use the 1st to 4th gears. If it wants to use 1st or 2nd gear, it will decide, but it will not go any higher than 4th.
  9. Now I'm confused. Aurion doesn't have a sports mode. Only has a manual shifting mode which you engage by moving the lever from Drive. If you do that, then the transmission operates as I've said above. That's what the manual says. That's why when you shift across from D, it usually goes to 4. Then it will use the first 4 gears but change automatically ie. If you come to a stop you will pull off in 1st not 4th gear.
  10. I don't understand what you're saying Blinky? Are you saying that when you which from drive to sports modes that it automatically shifts into fourth? Personally I never go from drive into sport, so I really have no complaint there. Otherwise i think it works fine my gears hold till red line, they will even bounce the rev meter if i don't shift up in time. I know it will hold gears. The Aurion's manual mode works just like an old auto with the L, 2, 3, D etc. In 1, it will only use 1st In 2, it will use 1st and 2nd, in 3, it will use 1st, 2nd and 3rd. etc In other semi automatics (I've only driven the mazda 6 auto), if you choose 3, it will only be in 3rd. When you slow down to a traffic light in 3, and leave it there, you'll be pulling off in 3rd. The Aurion will automatically choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd for you as you go up from the traffic light.
  11. CEO I am very envious. On a slight tangent, has anyone else thought that the manual mode on the transmission is a bit of a disappointment because when you put in in 4, it is not like a true manual because it won't hold that gear. Instead you are simply limiting it to the 4 lowest gears. You can't try to change to a higher gear quicker.
  12. No, have never used sports mode, always in drive.
  13. Power window problems for me. The left front passenger window sticks. On first opening after a few days of not being used, it will stick ? to the seals to the point of not coming down. After a few button pushes, you hear a loud unsticking noise and the window then functions normally for the rest of the day. It will need looking at at the next service but is not too much of a hassle.
  14. I know there have been a few other threads about fuel economy in the Aurion. My situation is that the car (an ATX) now has about 4000 km and is 6 months old. It is driven by my other half to work in normal city traffic 20 mins each way and also for shopping trips on the weekend. By no means bumper to bumper traffic. The car is driven fairly sedately, and we aren't racing from the lights. Rarely gets above 3000rpm. Bear in mind that the advertised fuel economy is 9.9L per 100km. The last tank calculation has been 44.5 litres for 270 km which equates to 16.5 L/100km. Now when the car was new, I accepted that maybe it was related to the car being in its first 1000km but this has been the way it has been since the beginning. Fuel economy of 15L/100km or slightly worse. Best we have had is about 12.5 L/100km on a weekend trip that had a bit of freeway and twisty moutain driving. Now I rang up our toyota dealer to discuss this and whether a bit of a look to see if the engine was in tune was warranted, and they said well, 16L /100km is not far off what they'd expect ( I'd love them to say this to a new car buyer) for a car before its first 12 month/15000 km service. He said then there will be an oil change and we should get better. However from reading the other threads with people getting sub 10 readings (granted often on the highway), I'm starting to wonder if everything is OK with our car? Does anyone out there own an Aurion for which they are driving mainly in the city without much freeway driving with whom we can compare. What do people think? Is this within the norm and we should just put up with it until 12 months service???
  15. Tyre pressure is probably higher than I should have it. We have an ATX which has no trip computer or climate control although the air conditioning tends to be on a lot of the time. I would not expect it to be such a problem as the Aurion has a big engine that can handle this. Nothing too heavy in the boot. Calculate fuel economy manually. Fill up to the click, reset the trip meter. Next fill, note the litres to click, then divide by the kms and x 100. I think if Shinsen is getting 9.6 doing his mixture of 100km/h and 80km/h driving then perhaps 14 isn't bad when it's all residential speed driving.
  16. Fill up with ordinary unleaded RON91. After all, the ADR fuel economy figures are tested using RON 91 petrol.
  17. Is anyone out there getting poor fuel economy from the Aurion. Have an ATX which now is well run inn with a few thousand km. My wife does city driving only. 20-25 min trips to work and back in suburban peak traffic. Plenty of stop start but I wouldn't say bumper to bumper. Now we have been getting on average fuel economy of 14-15 L/100km, meaning we average 350km per tank before filling up (about 1/4 full). Now have been reading stories of people getting close to the quoted 10 L/100km. To me this just seems unachievable with my car. We are not driving the car with a lead foot. I'm starting to get paranoid that there is something wrong with my car. Is there anyone in the same situation doing the same type of driving as we are? Should I be getting the car looked at? Is there anything that could be causing this? I am for the moment thinking that perhaps it is only the people getting great fuel economy driving on freeways who are posting their figures.
  18. ATX model. No trip computer so no average speed but all city driving.
  19. 1st tank on Aurion has got me a bit worried. 230km and used 37.86L = 16.5L/100km in city driving. Bought it instead of a 4 cylinder car (camry or euro) because Toyota had deals going and crossed my fingers that the fuel consumption sticker lived up to it being no worse than a current camry. My other car, a mazda 6, averaged 8.5L /100km over the same period with city driving and a 100km stretch on the freeway.
