  1. Just saw this thread it is old. I owned a vy commodore 2003 and that thing could move. Compared to my 09 Aurion i have to say the Aurion at full throttle blows v6 commodores away.

The commodores are rear wheel drive so they may be quicker off the mark at lights (not always the case) but at full throttle accel the Aurion wins hands down.

Ive "raced" many commodores down the m1 they keep up for a while, but when you plant your foot and that 2gr-fe kicks in full throttle it starts to pull away easily

  2. This is a pretty dumb question but couldnt find anything on it in the manual. If the doors are open or shut and i havent locked the car, it locks automatically after about 30 seconds. Super annoying. Is there a way to turn it off?

  3. I just took it to another mechanic who seem to be a bit more knowledgeable about these things so he actually witness my fuel gauge dropping fluctuate and go back up again he said all that is it the sending unit on the way out he said it's not really much of a concern at the moment overtime obviously it will deteriorate but he said it they can last for a long time like that without causing much harm as long as I'm getting the actual fuel that's in the tank it should be fine for a little while.

As for the smell I'm getting on hard throttle coming into the cabin he said it is a common thing on the cars and it's not what you may think it is. He showed me on the back of the firewall there's foam supposed to cover the fumes coming into the cabin and he discovered that the foam in mine has shrunk and there is a hole there and all I have to do is put some foam in there

  4. I have been trying to hunt down a reason as to why i seem to go through fuel so quickly. Along with a petrol smell entering into the cabin at full throttle acceleration. So after numerous visits to different mechanics to try and get to the bottom of it and being told nothing can be found i bought my own scan tool to see if anything would show. Not that i know what i am looking at, i am trying to track down normal operations for my aurion

Dont really know what im looking at but maybe someone here can tell me if those readings are any good?

  5. Update

i finally got around to taking my car in to see what was causing my alarm to go off. So it turns out it was the hood latch sensor. the sensor was bad due to a leaking radiator cap (which just happens to be above the sensor in the general area) dripping onto the sensor over a long period of time, And you could see the dried white powder (coolant) all around the latch and sensor.

So new latch, sensor and  cap.

  6. It turns out it was the battery that sound that you hear is the solenoid in the starter motor not getting any current to it

for future reference if you hear that the first thing to check is the battery. If the car doesn't turn over but you can jump start it and it runs it's definitely the battery as I have now found out. even if the battery seems good. mine was green but when tested it was as flat as a tack. alternator had a good voltage

  7. Does anyone have an issue with the petrol guage flucuating? If i fill it full it stays on full for a while, it then dips down. Then i get in the car later and it goes back up. I have read this is normal because of the way the sender floats in the tank? My aurion is a gas guzzler but just wanted to know if anyone else experiences a flucuating fuel guage

  8. Just wondering on most cars you hear that beeping when you turn the key it's the fuel priming on startup I have never noticed hearing this sound in my car ever. Just wondering if this is normal not to hear it when you turn your key in the ignition

  9. Just going back to this I had a look at my oil line and there is a bracket in the way. i can see metal going in but then i dont have good visibility without taking that bracket off that covers it i cant see the elbow part. im not a mechanic but i have booked my car in for a full spark plug and oil change service on monday. i have mentioned it to the mechanic and he said if it doesnt come up as a recall with your VIN then it shouldnt have that issue? im a bit dubious because my aurion had the window motor recall done but nothing about the oil line comes up on my vehicle.

  10. I was reading known issues with the 2grfe engine and it mentions The variable valve timingsystem. from what i understand it uses a rubber hose and there was a bulletin about it by toyota which can be replaced with a metal pipe? I have an 09 model. some say it was replaced by toyota in 09 but others say not till 2010. how would i even know if mine needs doing? I put myVIN the recall but only the power window came up.

How can i tell if mine is metal or rubber? Pictures would help
