Still havent found the issue. If i was to buy a obd scan tool, will that tell me what the issue is?

yeah this happened exactly to my dads 05 altise. Its the alternator, its the computer chip in the sensor that fails and sends the car into spaz mode. You can replace the whole alternator or just that part off the alternator. The NRMA guy says he sees around 5 camrys a weeks with the same issue.

I have uploaded a picture of the issue with lights turned on. Also just realised the high beam light comes on too, thats a bit strange. Thanks guys for all the input really appreciate the help! I guess if my toyota isnt reliable, at least i can turn to this forum for reliability :)

It silent. The both turn signal lights, light up and there are no lights on the dash. ill try to a get a picture soon. Im not sure what to do with the car, its such a pain that i cant drive it at night. He told me he just changed the burnt wires and reconnected them. I dont know him, i just called the first person who was the cheapest. I dont want to spend any money on it, as i wanted to sell the car. Such bad luck, Had my heart set on a nice hilux but i guess that has to wait :(

Hey guys, I hope someone can help me with this problem. Last week the cigarette lighter wire burned as a result of the fuse not doing its job. When this occured the turn signals shorted out when i tried to turn right. An auto electrician replaced the cigarrette wire and the turn signal wires. Everything works fine, however, at night when i turn the headlights on, the turn signals dont work at all. Instead both the turn signal lights turn on permanently on the dash. If i need to indicate at night, i need to turn off my headlights and then signal. This has become dangerous in certain situations. I hope someone can help me out with my issue, i havent got much money to spend, i wanted to sell the camry and buy myself a ute but i dont think i can sell it at this state. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance

another question is can you run E10 in the 2Y engines?

thanks again, had a look at the ute and there is a leak at the top of the radiator and theres a leak where the rocker cover gasket is. Should i walk away from this car or is that something that can be fixed without any on going problems.

thanks conrod. Im looking for something thats cheap on fuel too and 1.8L sounds good. However, what should i look out for in these utes? The rocker cover gaskets how much are they are replace? and are these engines bullet proof? do they have a timing chain on them? i just dont want something breaking down on me. Can they run the E10 fuel too? thanks! Edit: Didnt see your edit, conrod, till i posted it up. Thanks. So your saying these engines are tough as nuts and i shouldnt be too worried about them?

hey guys, im in the market for a cheap reliable ute and came across a 1.8L hilux. what can anyone tell me about the 2y engine? what should i look out for? i saw one with a suspected oil leak coming from the rocker cover, how much will that set me back to get repaired? i just want something thats cheap and reliable and wont cost me an arm and leg to keep running or fix, im a full student and need a vehicle to get to work. thanks

agreed...i highly doubt a police officer would use such foul language...if the story you are telling us is TRUE..then you should file a formal complaint because that is totally unacceptable by the police force...

cheers mate...has anyone here had problems with their power windows? i have never really owned a car with power windows before

my mates 96 2door passenger side power window doesnt seem to work at all..thought i was just the actuator...can someone gimme an insight? how easy is it to fix? and how much would the part be? cheers!
