  1. here is a flash movie that explains lift its worth a look

    thanks northy.

hmm judging by that.. its clear to see how hard it is for improvement. i mean if they really had more money to throw around just say lifted the prices of the stivo's to the euro hatch levels... they could do wonders with the engine.

    really interesting. i want lift!

  2. there are no aftermarket cams at the moment. coz of the reason of ECU programming complexity and also vvt is adjusted physically by a motor at the end of the camshaft where the cam gears are. vvt is constantly being varied according to lots of different variables, decided by the ECU.

not that it's impossible if u have money and lots of it.

StylinBlackRollA, do u know how lift is engaged?

honestly i don't know and haven't been looking into how lift engages. i own a 1zzfe.

  3. ive got the gear from my last car (falcon)

ive got 2 12inch mtx subs now i want to fitt em in my stivo but still want acces to spare wheel does anyone have subs custom fitted?

    check my garage..

i got a custom box made up for my 2x 12's to accomodate the subs and also try and save space.... but you think i did? haha have a look. but yes it depends on what subs your going for and what type of output you want will determine size of box.

to really save on space i think go with a single 12 and make it decent and a decent amp to drive it so you have outputs like 2x12's. i can get to my tyre well just have to drop the back seats down and slide the box (weighs 50kgs) on to the seats. i don't need to mount the box. it doesn't move... its that heavy. amp mounted on the back of box.

  4. Bang for buck, u cant go past JL

If ure asian, buy Alpine like everyone else

Im a massive RF fan, and my old 15s never failed to impress.

Hey Mike, I'm asian, and luv Rockford

    like wise

    LNE15 -

don't choose a sub or audio set up because of your car colour.... figure out what you want first Sound Quality or SPL. then work out how much you want to spend. Although keep in mind in both SQ and SPL you need a decent amp that's what drives the gear.

    Alpine - made in china

    Sony - made in china

definate no no. although sony is priced well for the budget concious.

Alpine is alright but $$$ for nothing.

if you want good gear you have to be willing. there's no use buying high end gear if all you want is doof doof. Also never go for one brand setup. You can achieve better results with mixing brands. Different companies have different strenghts.

    Image dynamics - SQ

    Cadence - SPL

    Rockford - SPL

    Alpine - SQ

    Clarion - head units/all rounder

    Pioneer - head units/all rounder

    Sony - XPLOD (hehe)

  5. Hey Guys,

Got a 05 corolla sportivo recently:) anyway just wondering if i was to fit a trd pod filter would this void my warrenty! has anyone had any experiences with this job?

    thanks guys

    ar

Warranty is only voided on any items that are replaced. But if a problem occurs Toyota will try to trace it back to the item that you have changed.

eg. change springs. well it will only void your springs and obviously shocks. but say if u had problems with your alternator obviously your mod wasn't the cause. so you will still have warranty on ur alternator.

just be sure every mod you do is installed properly and if unsure always ask or get it done professionally that way if any problems occur it goes back to the installer. (in most cases)

  6. our power windows are mighty super dooper quick when going up or down too... i wonder if that has anything to do with it

haha i don't think that's got anything to do with. as that only refers to the motors used. the window itself will sit on a rack. what i'm thinking the problem is the rubbers used in the corollas aren't thick enough making the window loose.

this shouldn't be a characteristic as the guy from toyota said. i've had my car for almost a year and this problem has occured 3 months after purchase. its getting worse from my perspective that's why i want to take this matter furtherer.

and to prove that its not a electric window characteristic i've test out my mates subie's 200's the accord euro, monaro's leccy windows and none rattles...

if anyone is actually progressing with this matter to their toyota dealers let me know.

  7. I kept the Simota Pod. Secondary pipe bracket is not screwed in, but is resting on the chassis, so it's still acting as a support. You might want to see what Autobarn do with this.

I have exhaust mods, so the little difference I felt with the CAI mod may not carry through to your car. The only real way to determine gains is to dyno the car. Let me know how your car goes.

oh ok. yeah as soon as i saw the simota pod i wasn't overly impressed specially with the size. i then had a choice between a standard k&n or a k&n extreme.

seeing that majority of people on this site recomends the extreme's i took that path.

2 days to go til install. i'll have pictures available for you and definately see what autobarn will do on the second piping mount. i'd say they will probably just screw it in with a new mounting spot.

  8. The VTEC technology in the Honday cars is similar to the LIFT in our cars, when it hits a certain rpm, the VTEC will kick in and you can feel a sudden pull from the car. There are VTEC controllers available on the market that can change the rpm at which the VTEC kicks in. Is there somthing like that for the VVTL-i? That would be an interesting mod.....

Kt_haha i don't know of the vtec controller your talking about but i've heard teggy type r tuners using piggy backs and re-tuning the vehicle so vtec kicks in lower rpm's. mods like this aren't easy and to change such things requires pro's and tuners. i'd say it'd be the same for the stivo.

  9. good,  dyno it and see how it goes. that material on simota (from the look of it), looks the same as the one my friend have.

yeah its not bad at all, only comes in polished. which isn't bad, i'm sourcing HPC coating for it. it helps working for dulux :D

i've also got alot of experience in alloy. and it desperses heat very fast but i still don't want any air to get heated. HPC should be nice.

  10. You can see the bracket that's connected to the secondary pipe. The gold washer and screw is where that bracket is meant to attach to the chassis "theoretically".

Also, in the foreground you can see the aluminium sleeve and blue rubber connector (underneath the sleeve) that connects the main pipe to the secondary pipe. If you take the red positive terminal on the battery (blurry red thing on the left) as a reference, you can see how long the main pipe is compared to the secondary pipe (look at the first pic).

    post-591-1117260312_thumb.jpg

hmm that's worry about secondary piping bracket. i'll leave that to autobarn to sort out. for $50 can't go wrong they have to put up with the headaches if anything goes wrong.

by the way --Rudes-- what filter did you end up using on your simota? i swapped mine for the k&n extreme.

Danz - CAI is not fitted until wednesday. and i am seriously thinking about dyno-ing the car soon after just to see what outputs its gained with the k&n extreme filter. i'm hoping 4-5kw.

--Rudes-- good to hear its actually made a difference. so only top end difference? any mid range feel? or revs easier?

i'll soon know by wednesday. let me know your progress.. and by the way did you leave that second piping bracket alone or you worked out a way to mount it?

  11. on the box it states its for the rolla altis.

I did not realise this... They only get the 1ZZ engine over there so may not be 100% compatible... I thought there was a specific one for the 2ZZ... There are a few others with the Simoto CAI installed into the Sportivo with no issues though, I've seen 2 with my own eyes, and yes they do look smaller then the TRD and AEM pipes but the final placement of the pod is the same. Blackrolla had an issue with the join being loose on his I think due to the angle of the 2nd piece to the filter so be careful with that.

thanks heaps for that blue_stivo it has made peace with me.

i don't see anything wrong just wondering if it did come in 2 piece.

i'll look out for the join.

is there any added brackets needed to hold this cai? or everything fits in place?

  12. I also have rattles in 2003 5d Corolla TS (Europe) when the windows are 4-5cm open. I can hear intense rattles just closing the doors, not needing irregular road surface.

Toyota mechanics spray some silicone but after 2-3 weeks the situation is awful again.

I think the window rubber frames are badly engineered materials. There is some obvious variation in tightness from door to door. My front doors are worse!

i really think this is a factory mistake. if i can get more people to verify this is an occuring problem we as toyota owners shouldn't have to put up with rubbish. although its hard to get toyota to listen.

good example is sportivo gearbox/clutch problems. they fixed it.

Ic3man - only had the ascent for a week and a half.

  13. ok, i've got the intruction for K&N typhoon intake system here. not exactly like simota but the first few steps should be similar.

    http://www.kandn.com/instructions/69-8601.pdf

    hope this helps

Danz - i know 2-piece.. i didn't realise this. although i already had comments on the piece they say its nicely welded and very nice job. tube is 2 n 1/2 inch not a 3inch piece. mate some input here....

--Rudes-- thanks for verifying that mate. atleast its the right one to get fitted. on the box it states its for the rolla altis. i'm thinking that's the malaysian/asian countries model. let me know when you get some pics.

Doctony - nice work man. i wish you could get detailed install instructions like that for everything. hehe

  14. Ok installed Simota today. Replaced Simota pod with K&N extreme.

Good response feeling. Better pick up pace. Great sound. Money well spent.

    Coolant by pass done also.

slight change in idle for about 5mins. Drive the car hard for 10mins and it went away...

Second piece bracket doesn't line up. although easy found a place for a new screw position.

  15. i realise its annoying like that, but what if we wanted the option of windows half way. they shouldnt' rattle.

personally i've got a/c on constantly. i don't like windows down all the way if i have them open.

keep these coming.  i'm going to confront Toyota about it.

it spoils the toyota name having problems like these.

may the force be with you.

yeah tel me bout it. i think they hate me as it is. for the first month i had my car i was very picky about scratches... there were 3 little ones lol only a new black car owner would see. they ended up spending about $4000 re doing paint. then they scuffed me new 17's and had to replace a rim $400 then they had to re do the paint protection. and lent me a newy ascent which only had 20k's on it. by the time i got it back to them it has 2000k's hehe and i thoroughly wore the engine in :D

  16. try the taller gears..... if you floor it ...the revs will come :)

after my ecu upgrage it has a lower rev limit in 1st as well (i know weird  ) but but other gears it goes to 8200 no probs.... :D  oh and the less you put the foot down the lower the rev limit as well... ie try 2nd gear sightly on the gas and take the revs as high as possible sometimes it cuts at 6....

uhm mx... mate... i'd hate to tell you this... but it shouldn't be doing that....

try going back to your tuner and get it done properly. that's a serious problem if it does it "sometimes"

blue_stivo its easy to regas... just go to a airconditioning joint should be done easily and cheaply.

  17. DANZ? nah, he's too much of a pimp to do it :P

all his wimmin would be biatching about it. and i dun think he'd wanna work up a sweat trying to park his car. looks bad... :P

haha count me in for that one too.!!!!!

by the way the important part about this mod is the condensor. just removing the belts won't change much. if your going to do it may as well do it properly. as for powersteering i don't think there's much to be had with that. as for gains... if i'm wrong do quote me

  18. Yes, some very valid points there.

Another thing to add in there jus tto illustrate the issue though:

In most cases its well documented and tested that most of the slightly dearer reknowed brands of tyres will handle better, stop quicker and perform better in the wet than the cheaper tyres when tested under the same conditions.

This is the safety issue i'm talking about.

So whether its slow driving, normal driving or track driving the better tyres will be safer when tested back to back.

I realise purchase comes down to things like budget and driving style, some people wont ever have a problem with the cheaper tyres as they may be more conservative.

But for people like us who like to enjoy "spirited drives" i'm sure most of us would be happier with the better tyre simply because of the combination of ride, hold and feel.

Personally, i'm happier with the peace of mind that I may have a little better chance on the better rubber if something does happen to go wrong.

Yes this rambling contains alot of ifs, buts and variables but this is how I feel on the subject.

    got your back there mick,

it does depend on budget but that's like everything. would you buy cheaper water that "might" make you sick or would you pay extra to have the comfort of not thinking about getting sick?

i know it depends on how you drive? but we all know people in this forum drive spiritedly than usual toyota customers. we're not saying its going to happen but extra reassurance is better than none. as for an extra $300 or $400 on my life. i'd rather spend the extra than having my family watching me underground. you know funerals can be up to 10k :D

hmmm 10k... there some nice modies

  19. This is true but alot of people dont seem to see eye to eye on this topic, some people want their gear at the lowest possible price even if it means they are sacrifcing safety and/or quality. I'll be getting quality skins on my rims. If I can't afford the kind of rubber I should be buying then i'll just wait a little longer!

that is very true. don't get me wrong i like good special prices. but certain things like safety, money just can't buy. for cosmetic items, it all depends on tastes. but yes when it comes down to break pads and tyres i do believe a little more $$$ is nothing compared to what it could do for you.

  20. nice thanks for the tips they are invaluable to me.

as for foggies i'm glad i don't have them in. i just didn't see spending $400 for something cosmetic and really doesn't help me with my driving ability if anything adds weight... for $400 u can get a cheap front bar :D

although i like the new facelifted stivos... :P
