  1. Don't rush out and buy the filter in the pictures. If you have a 12R in your RT40 it is not the original engine and it does not have the same filter as the one in the photo's. 2R engines had three different filter cartridges over the time they were produced. The first was the oval filter, as in the pictures provided. The second was the early round type cartridge. This filter had a central hole the same size as the one in the oval filter. The third and final filter is the late round filter. This filter is the same dimensions as the early round filter but has a larger center hole (the oil system was changed from a partial flow system to a full flow system and the larger shaft was needed to acomodate the increase of oil flow). This later filter was continued on through the 12R's until they changed to a spin on type filter right at the end of their production run (if you are lucky you may have one of these fitted). Because the 12R engine was used in Hilux's, Hiaces and Corona's, this is by far the easiest of the cartridge type filters to track down. The oval type filter is now only available through Toyota. The early round type filter is now only available through Ryco and the late round is available genuine through Toyota and Ryco. If your engine is definatly a 12R, look at any catalouge for any early 70's toyota with a 12R (Hiace, Hilux or Corona), and you will find the correct cartridge for you car. If you find you have a 2R, have a look at the filter cartridge housing. If it is oval then it requires the cartridges that are in the photo's that have been posted. If it is round tell me how many bolts attatch the filter housing to the engine block. This is an easy way for me to determin if you have an early round or a late round. An early round has two bolts attatching the housing to the engine block (same as oval housing), and a late round has three bolts (same as 12R so you can order the 12R filter). If you can give me this info I can tell you what filter you need and what part number you are after. It's more than likely you will need the common 12R filter (but the 12R engine first appeared in the 1970 RT80 Corona, Hilux and Hiace). Whatever cartridge you have make sure it still has the spring that holds the cartridge up against the top of the housing. This provides a proper seal and ensures that oil does not bypass the filter. Half the Corona's I have purchased have had this spring missing and without this spring the filter is useless. John
  2. yes it is definitely moving along i fired up my tiara sedan the other day and found the generators not working, do you have a spare you want to sell? also i still have not found a front screen yet any luck at your end? Peter Hi Peter, My wagon is a 64 and has an alternator instead of a generator. I have the spare alternator off my spare parts car but not a generator as fitted to 63 (and earlier) Tiara's. I still have not fitted my windscreen so I still can't let the one go out of my spare parts sedan. I've done some investigations into getting some screens made and if I do a minimum run of ten it should be worth it. I'm thinking I should be able to get enough people to purchase the ten. Everyone gets screens made overseas now and it would involve sending a screen overseas and then getting the new screens sent back. If you are interested I'll chase it up and give you a price on individual screens and you can let me know if I can count on you for at least one screen (they will be laminated and have a tint strip at the top). There was a complete 64 Tiara sedan at the Gold Coast Toyota wreakers, but last time I talked to them they did not want to sell parts off the car but wanted to sell the whole car for $1500.00 (it will have an alternator not a generator). From photo's I saw of the car it seemed quite rusty and $1500.00 seemed a bit steep. Circumstances may have changed and they may be willing to part it out. There is also a 63 ute on ebay at the moment but there is no sign of the front screen or the generator, and the seller's starting price is $500.00 for a very sad looking example. I have made a rust repair kit for the tail gates on wagons and utes (I did it for my own wagon but have listed them on ebay to see if I can recover some of the set up costs) and I am currently working on rust repairs for the lower gaurd sections. If you find you need lower gaurd rust repair sections (inner, outer, left and right) down the track let me know. If I can help you out in any other way let me know John
  3. Hi, From what I understand, you will be better off to stop thinking of what gearbox will do the job and start thinking about what family of engines you are talking about i.e. "R" engine. My understanding is all early "R" engine gear boxes are interchangable i.e. R,2R,4R,8R,9R,12R,18R (no later than 18R). With this in mind you can take your pick of 3,4 or 5 speeds. Celica/Corona 5 speeds from behind an 18R should work. Trouble is, you will have to fit a clutch and brake pedal assembly from a donar RT40,46,51,56,80,81 car (I don't know how hard this will be), cut a hole in the transmission tunnel for the gear shift and do something about the column gear shift lever (maybe get acolumn from your donar car). John
  4. Hi, Here's some photo's of some of the parts I have had rechromed and the seats that have been reupholstered. John
  5. Hi, Here's some photo's of the Hilux disk brake upgrade I have installed on my wagon. This upgrade can be performed on 40 series Crown's as well (Note: both upper and lower ball joints are inverted). John
  6. Yep! thats going to keep you busy for a while.I have seen one or two of these before, but that was some time back. Would this one be in the Toowoomba area by any chance? Try this link for engine/gearbox and Toyota model codes http://members.iinet.net.au/~stepho/engcodes.htm Steve I'm probably going to let the truck sit for a while til I finish my Tiara Wagon. If it looks like too much work to take on with the other car on the go I may try and flog it off. No it's not from Toowoomba but that's where its new home is going to be, so if you know of one in Toowoomba I'd be keen to hear about it. I am picking this one up from the Gympie area. John
  7. I won't know how much work is in it till I get it home and have a good look over it. The upside is that they are so simple that it won't be hard to fabricate the missing panels and front bar (May even make a mean looking bullbar to fill in this whole area). The other thing is that there is no upholstery except for the seat. It dosn't look bad for rust so I'm hoping it won't take alot to get it back on the road and then I can do a more complete resto down the track. Here's a shot of the interior. John
  8. Hi, I have recently purchased a 1960's PK41 Toyota Toyoace truck. This is an unusual model number as the first letter in the model series usualy indicates the type of engine fitted to your Toyota. For whatever reason, even though this truck originaly had a 2R engine fitted, the first letter in the model number is a "P" (may have been to avoid confusion with the RK40 series Stout that was produced at the same time). Early models of this truck in Japan had "P" & "2P" engines fitted and were PK30 series. I am seeking any info, manuals, brochures, parts or help I can get for what must be a rare truck now days. If there are any other owners out there I would love to hear from you. email johnnyrhino@msn.com John

  10. Hi Henry, I also could be persueded to sell my 64 wagon that I am in the process of restoring. It is mechanicaly A1 and needs minor body repairs before respraying. The seats have been recovered and the original door and rear cards are in good condition. I have fitted disk brakes, a perod heater demister, seatbelt anchor points and have lap sash retractable seatbelts for the front and back seats. This is a very rare car so I would not be giving it away. You can see photo's in this forum, on TORC or on Corona Country. My email is johnnyrhino@msn.com John
  11. Hi, Because these cars ars getting quite rare I am trying to get a bit of a network of owners together. If you own a Tiara, or you know of someone that owns a Tiara, or you know where a Tiara is please contact me and let me know. I am especialy keen to track down another wagon owner. I only know of two other wagons. One is owned by Toyota Australia and the other was owned by a woman named Rachael Lear, who lived in the Cairns area in far north Queensland, Australia. A couple of years ago she was talking of selling the wagon so she may not own it any longer. I would love to know who the current owner is and where this wagon is now. If you have any info on this wagon or any other Tiara's (sedans, wagons or utes) please contact me. johnnyrhino@msn.com John Hi, Here is some photo's of my latest project I am restoring for my wife. It is a 1964 RT26G Toyota Tiara Station Wagon. It has Hilux Disk brakes and rims, is lowered 1 1/2". has a Smiths style heater demister and will have lap sash seatbelts front and rear. Other than that and a few additions like the sun visor, the Hollywood moon caps and roof racks it will be all original. I will post some more pic's when it is finished. If there is any other Tiara owners who need asistance with parts or info, or have any parts tor cars they are willing to sell, or just want to exchange details so we can help each other out when needed you are welcome to contact me on my email johnnyrhino@msn.com I have just had a lazer cut rust repair section made for the lower section of the tailgate. The expense was it entering the dimensions into the computer. Any additional copies sould be relatively cheap. So if there are any other Wagon or Ute owners out there that need a rust repair section for their tailgate, let me know and I can get another one cut out. I can send photo's of the section before and after it has been welded in. John
  12. Thanks for the positive comments. I had Toyed with the idea of putting a 18RG and five speed in the wagon, or even a Holden V6 and auto, but this car has a low k's "R" engine (which is the original motor and the first of the "R" family of engines). There is not too many of these engines still around and if I took it out it would be another one that is lost forever. I figure it's better to have a fiarly honest example of how the car was in it's hey day than have something that goes fast. They are a simple and reliable engine it just won't be going anywhere in a hurry (suits me fine). Because my wife plans on using this car on a regular basis I upgraded the brakes to make sure it can pull up like a modern car. I've had the seats reupholstered and have just put them back in the ensure I put the seatbelt mounts in the correct places. They look great and the original door and side cards are in excelent condition. They are bright orange with a black pattern on them. I'll post some photo's once it's painted and reassembled for the last time. John

Phone: 0411142670 email: johnnyrhino@msn.com The only part I am after is the upper battery retaining bracket, so if you have a spare one of those I'd be happy to buy it from you. John
