  1. Hi Mate, I recently had a go about replacing my Toyota Avalon Stereo with another Toyota stereo, and it wasn't fun, as the wires that connects from the stereo don't connect to the speaker, they connect to an amp, the location of the amp is the painful part, it is hiden behind the driver airbag, you would need to access it from under the passenger footwell. (I have a Mark II VXI, which has the Six Stacker unit ,4 speakers and 2 twiters). To be honnest, I couldn't reach it, as I saw that there were alot of devices in there (e.g. Cruise Control unit), however, if you take the facia stereo out, you can spot it (hiding in the far left, behind the airbag activation mechanism). BTW, I didn't change the stereo, I just fixed my old stereo, so I wouldn't have to deal with the amp. I am sorry I can't be any further help, and good luck with this.
  2. Hi All, Thank GOD that I didn't have a melimeter, that gave me a bit of time to research the 20 pin connector as opposed to the 10 + 6, which is usually shipped with the toyota HU. As it turned out, the 20 pin connectors are made specifically to flag that there is an external AMP, whilst 10 + 6 means that the AMP is internal, and for the fear of frying my AMP (which I belive is housed behind the passanger airbag somewhere), I took the CD player from the unit I bought and put it on my old unit, as it turns out, they use the same CD stacker. It might have worked for me if I mapped the connection, but I am not sure if the sound would have remained the same, who knows. Well, for now, it seems this is the end of my troubles...
  3. Sorry, I should have tried harder before posting :P Here is my original stereo mapping: http://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_Toyota5.htm Here is the one that I mapping of the one that I go to: http://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_Toyota3.htm Hoefully it helps someone else that needs that info. However, I am still getting a meltimeter to be sure.
  4. Hi All, I have found a solution to my problem... but I still have one problem to overcome. I have managed to track a stereo in the wreckers, but it was for the Mark III model, so I can replace the facia, which looks similar to the one that I have, however the wiring harness is different Would anyone point me to the wiring harness of the model that I have, it is a single harness, but I can't seem to find any information about it. This one seems to detail the normal harness wiring. http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Toyota-Wiring.pdf But the one that I have is only a single connection, as you can see from the iamges that I have attached. Looking forward to your reply.
  5. Hi SupaTouring, I am at work right now, but I will look later tonight and will give you the dimension of my stereo. Thanks for your reply. Hi SupaTouring, I did some measuring and photos, so here are the measurments: Face Width: 23.5 cm Face Height: ~10cm Unit Width: 17.8 cm Unit Length: 17cm note that the unit height is the same as the face height Unit with facade around it Unit with facade removed Top Of the Unit Right Hand Bracket Left Hand Bracket Rear of the unit Looking at things as you said, that the Radio might be a bit wide, not sure. Please let me know how you go. Thanks again for your reply.
  6. Hi SupaTouring, I am at work right now, but I will look later tonight and will give you the dimension of my stereo. Thanks for your reply.
  7. Hi All, I did put in a bid (actually few of them), but whoever outbid me, really wanted, so I wasn't about to find their maximum, I am looking at another model, this is a double din, but I do wonder if this would fit in the Avalon ? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=220375480951 Any help would be appreciated.
  8. Hi All, Now I have a bit of time on my hand, I am trying to replace my stereo once more. Would anyone knows if this unit I found in eBay would fit in the Avalon ?? It seems to me the same unit that is fitted to the Mark III Avalon, which have almost the smae centre dash. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=320345405633 Thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks zr nate for the offer, what you are offering is much cheaper than what is getting asked for @ eBay for the aurion stereo, however, as you can see from the image by SupaTouring, it is a bit mid 90's, the stereo if it fits, it will look way out of place. Thanks SupaTouring, this is the interior from a Mark I Grande, mine is Mark II VXI, but the stereo is the same. I know that Avalon Mark III has an upgraded stereo from the same model, I am not sure if that model will fit in the Mark II, I am thinking I can get it off a Camry from the wreckers, I would have guessed that there are more camrys than there are Avalons.
  10. Hi All, My CD changer on my VXI Avalon had died, I asked (knowing in advance that it is going to be painful) Toyota dealer, and I was told $800 for replacment I was wondering if this is really how much they cost, and if so, if there are any other Toyota CD changers that I can fit in the Avalon with little pain ( I am planning to see if I can get them secondhand from eBay or wreckers). Thanks.
  11. Thanks RelishGTP for the reply, I took couple of shots with my mobile, so please excuse the image quality. As you can see there is the two Auto and Off on the right hand side, They are not coming on, as well, the buttons next to them are also about to go, so maybe I would consider doing them at the same time. Thanks.
  12. Hi All, I know this is a Camry sub-forum, but can you please help with a question that I have posted on the Aurion / Avalon sub-forum. http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...showtopic=16694 Appreciate your assistance in advance. Regards.
