I have also noticed a noise on occasion in that area. Not sure if it is separate but I also get a an engine noise when I am decelerating from time to time. My corola sportivo is a few months old

My sportivo is about 2 months old and I also have a sort of whirring / grinding noise every so often. Doesn't appear to be getting any worse but it just doesn't sound so good (just not as smooth as you would like it). When I took it in for the 1,000 km service they said they couldn't here anything. There doesn't appear to be any pattern to it either. If it gets any worse I'll take it in ...

knowing not much about cars except how fast they go can someone explain to me (or give me a link) what a TRD CAI and a CES system is/does, etc.

I just checked and the guy said no oil change at 1,000km service that costs extra. Apparently Toyota don't think it is necessary until 10,000kms but the mechanic said he prefers to do it at 5,000kms.

I agree that handling is maybe the only (slight) negative but I have found that certain types of driving style make a difference if that makes any sense. I saw a few comments that wider tyres might make a difference. but I was more concerned about other things this morning. When I walked outside I discovered the side mirror completed smashed - someone had side swiped it last night - but luckily no body damage. My heart rate slowed down when I saw a card under the wipers. Someone had seen it happen and followed the guy to get rego and called police - what a legend!!! guess I'll get it fixed when I get the 1,000 km service bit of a hassle but could of been a lot worse ($1,000?) btw does anyone know what the right time is for the first service? The log book says 5,000kms but they told me 1,000kms at the dealership. Now that I have almost done 1,000kms can I drive it as hard as I like?

got the new sportivo 2 weeks ago. Black with dark tint - looks hot :D had considered several other (hot) hatches but always were inclined to go for Toyota and no regrets! the dealer was silly enough to tell me that the car didn't start when it arrived - a faulty fuel injector which they had to replace. I am keeping my eye on things... Have already done 800k's - I have to say this car really kicks some *****. Have been giving it a fair go but a little bit weary of pushing too hard to start with (except when a monaro tried to out sprint me). also thought I heard a slight strange noise when slowing down through the gears after coming off the highway. Maybe nothin to worry about it has gone now... (and it sounds very good) great website, look forward to hearing more corolla tales...
