Dyna 100 Engine Swap Recommendations

Danm

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I posted this in the commercials section but I thought a few of the Hilux mob might have some good ideas too...

I'm a proud new owner of a 1988 Dyna Dual Cab with a 2Y 1.8L petrol motor
in it. It has a good G55 gearbox in it but the motor is getting tired.

Can people please give their recommendations on engines to replace the 2Y mated up to the G55. I'm thinking 22R / 3L / 2RZ?

Any wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dan.

2,3,5L diesels have a different gearbox, I would expect. Something much stronger. you might need ther whole driveline if you go diesel. If you increase power by>20% you will have to get it re-certified - upgraded brakes etc. This is beginning to sound too expensive to proceed, but it's your cash. NB If you proceed, no-one will pay a decent price when you sell. You will HAVE to own it til it stops to get value for money. Beware the rust.

Thanks mate. I've heard they're used in hiluxs with 3Ls and 5Ls as well as Hiaces. Anyone got any experience or got G55 on their spec plate without knowing it?

Toyota are pretty consistent with their engines ....... arroud the same era they use the same motor across quite a number of models.

The same motors more or less can be found in the hilux, hiace, prado and smaller dyna with minor differences.

Changimg from petrol to diesel is a major thing ...... the whole fuel system is different. ... tarnsmission may be dofferent and diff ratios may also be different.

Having drive a few dynas .... I few more schnaps would not go astray

The 2.4 litre out of the hilux would be a fair choice ...... it will be carburated so no major engine management and it will have low rise manafolds.

Av 2.7 litre fuel injected motor would be great...... but I recon that would be a world of trouble.

cheers
