Cleaning vacuum hoses

Any recommendations? I've got some throttle body cleaner, however I thought that might be a bit harsh on the rubber. I've also got a small bottle of isopropyl alcohol that I use for lens cleaning, but I doubt that would be strong enough to get rid of build-ups.

BTW I want to clean the inside of them, not the outside.

P.S. Does anybody know a good way to access the EGR VSV on a 1991 5S-FE (late 1991 model, not early)? It's bolted-on under the intake manifold, making it impossible to access from the top without its removal. Can it be accessed from underneath? Toyota say that my jolty acceleration is due to the VSV being broken (which worries me, since that would suggest that a previous mechanic broke it and said nothing... since it's not merely 'faulty').
