Poor radio reception with new head unit- 05 Altise

Hi

I have just installed(with help of a mate with experience) a new Clarion MAX386VD DVD head unit in my 05 Camry.

I am getting very erratic radio signal on FM and NO reception at all on AM.

Does anyone know of anything I should be looking at to attempt to fix this issue.

I am also having some other issues, which I have asked about in this thread, if anyone is able to help.

I have a Metra dash kit, but I we are unable to work out how to mount it to the head unit and fit the dash back on. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

im no expert on car audio systems, but id be checking the wiring and connectors going into the headunit, if the radio was working fine before hand.

Thanks. :). The connections are fine. Very secure. I'm not sure what else it could be. The signal was fine before on the original radio.

it has to be your wiring if it was working fine before it should be working fine now.

I had this problem awhile back and it was my wiring, had to find it out the hard way by pulling everything out and rewiring it all back :(

Michael, where did you get your Metra dash kit from? Ive been looking for something like this.

Got the Dash kit off eBay. A seller in the US. This the page: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...3&viewitem=

Only problem is that it doesn't fit properly, and it is impossible to mount it to the HU and then attach the dash again as the dash kit has to sit on the outside of the factory dash... I'm really not sure how I'm going to get it to fit properly...

No news on the radio reception either. Although, it seems as though it is not connected at all, as FM will only work while driving East-West, not North-South. AM wont work at all...

Anyone got any ideas?

We have re-wired but it's still not working. I have a feeling something is wrong with the tuner in the head unit... I'm going to put the factory unit back in to make sure the connection hasn't failed somehow...

I have a new wiring harness coming too, so maybe that will help.

ummm... just a thought, was speaking to a guy I bought roof racks off one time and he said that after he put his metalised tints on, his reception was poor.

Don't know if that would help. But if everything was done properly, the radio reception wouldn't really change. *shrugs*

Yeah thats true. the new camrys have their antenna on the rear windscreen on top of the demister and we get customers complaining about bad reception all the time. Usually its caused by tint.

To fix it, you'll have to get an external antenna kit. Ebay maybe?
