Hey,

i have been looking at an FJ75 petrol engine Land cruiser. I really like the Ute because the exterior and interior are in immaculate condition but i have heard rumors that the transmission on this model cruiser tend to play up a lot once they start to get old. The ute has done 320 000km, but that's not really a concern. It looks to me like the previous owner has tampered with the lefthand side of the gear box, but it might be nothing. It is listed as $5000 ono.

Can anyone give me some advice as to what may be wrong with a Land Cruiser from the 80's, or if it is a good buy?????

Thankyou, any help will be very much appreciated.

you dont wanna buy a petrol trust me

desiel in 4x4 is a much better option for so many reasons 2 i can think of straigh away

1 fuel consumption

2 engine life (desiels just last longer)

Hey robie, thanx for the feedback

I know that diesels last alot longer. But if how the exterior has been cared for is any sort of indication on how this last owner has looked after the car, i have no doubts the engine will see 500 000km. and its only going to be a short trip, work ute. I have a fairlane now, so fuel consumption isnt that big of an issue.

Thanx

thats fair enough yeah apart from the engine though there pretty much the same truck pet or desiel first thing id be doin if i was looking o buy 1 is a full service wheel bearing front and rear axle seals pos even a front turn knuckle seal kit thats a big job but if you get it over and done with wen/if you purchase the car you wont get court out and if you do it they wont leak for like 150-200 00km

1 more thing to check for on the petrol is the valve stem seals if its the 4.5 inline 6 just hope they dont start it prior to you lookin at it start it up let it idle and look for smoke from exhaust if there is u'll be looking at 1500-2500 to fix
