Hey guys, just tring to round up anyone with an older Soarer. That means you lot with, GZ-10, MZ-10, GZ-20, MZ-20, MZ-21 designated cars. Most of the talk out there is about newer Soarers, Hey ya can't blame em, there awsome cars, but lets get back to the roots here. So if you have an 81 to 90 Soarer leave some posts, say hi and give us you queries or problems and i'm sure we can help each other out. :)

Hi there,

I know this is the Australian Toyota Club,but i can't find many other usefull or friendly resources in relation to my recently purchased car,so i have joined your,from what i can see,massive community.

I used to own a Supra red 1985 Celica Supra 2.8i MA61 with the 5M-GE motor which was a fantastic car and one of the only cars that i have owned that i regretted selling.The only reason at the time for selling it was the amount of rust in the tailgate and sunroof.Replacing and spraying both of these at the time,around 12 years ago,would have set me back around £750.

In September last year i bought a 1985 Toyota Soarer 3.0 GT LIMITED MZ12 in pearl white with burgundy leather interior.I absolutely love the car.I owned a 1985 Toyota Soarer 2.8 GT MZ10 a few years ago but as with the supra the bodywork and even the chassis in some areas was dissolving away so it sadly went to the scapyard in the sky.

Luckily this Soarer i bought has been looked after well by the 2 previous owners and garaged for most of its life so there is only some small areas of rust at the rear of the car.I am slowly doing the car up and what original parts i can't get hold of i have found some companies doing good aftermarket upgrades,for example spark plug leads from Magnecor and an air filter from k&n.

My brother likes the car even more than me so he has set up a website to document the restoration project www.soarerproject.blogspot.com

The only big problem i have with the car right now is that the Electronic speedo and the Electro Multi Vision Display work when they like,they will be on for a couple of days and then fade out and can be off for a couple of weeks.I have come to the conclusion that it might be corroded cables that run under the car and then into the engine bay,but if anyone out there has suffered the same problem and knows a fix,i would be very happy to hear from you.

The next mods to the car will be the suspension,springs,shocks and anti roll bars/strut bars,but i am finding it hard to find any aftermarket parts.If anyone can help me with this,again i will be happy to hear from you.

Best place for this kind of info and community is Toymods, there's a big bunch of Z10 and Z20 drivers over there, plus a veritable mountain-load of experience with the 1G and M-series engines. Be warned, the application process can be quite frustrating though

I have the 1G in an 87 soarer and i am finding it pretty slugish any idea on what diff gears it came out with and what would you guys recommend put in

how are you all im a newbie at his but ive recently purchased a mz21 1989 gt limited soarer after two weeks had to change rod bearings due to rod knock common in these so ive booked it in for a brand new motor and manaul conversion at 7000 for the lot fitted. just want to know is that a good price or can i do better i live in adelaide and want the work done by a pro over rebuilding cars myself. only mods i noticed were tein coil overs boost controler starcorp 19 inch with 10 wide back rims. any feed back would be aprechiated
