Hi everyone,

My old Camry's been having problem with its manual gear box for a while. It's very very hard to change from 1st gear to 2nd gear if RPM is over 2000. I usually have to wait till RPM goes under 2000 or the car has to be very slow in order to change to 2nd gear. All other gears 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th are working fine. A brand new clutch was put in 2 years ago.

Does anyone know what's likely the problems and how to fix it? Thank heaps.

If you are downshifting from 3rd to 2nd, do you get any grinding sound? If so, that is a sign that your synchro may possibly be a bit sick.

it will be syncros... common problem on the S53 manual tranny.

usualt 2nd and 3rd are the ones to go.

You can try running a higher grade tranny oil, but it may be too far gone.

So you will need to either shift very slowly and carefuly to avoid grinding, or learn to revmatch.

Spot on Darryl, sometime i have to use 3rd gear in low speed to avoid grinding.

Hi Mick, is there any permanent fixing solution for this in economical sense?
