Hi Guys,

Few quick questions.

I want to do a few simple things to the engine to produce more power.

Looking at three main things just wanted to see how viable these are and if anyone has done similar.

1. Extractors - Supposedly expensive with little gain

2. Platinum Spark Plugs - Herd these might be an idea and make a slight difference

3. Cold air intake - just sounds good and does add a bit of power.

Thoughts and comments?

Extractors... Just get your stock ones ported.

Platinum Spark Plugs... Just use OEM replacement

Cold Air Intake... proven performance mod with the 2zz. approx 8kw ATW gain with the right one.

1) Cheap option is to get stock ones ported, expencive option is to get PPE Race Headers, they're the goods, decent gains.

2) Stock ones are actually quite good, iridium denso's if I remember correctly.

3) Injen for top end power, AEM for broad power. Good cheap mod, DIY friendly (hell if I can do it, anyone can). Can give problems with stock ECU on older CAI models. I have no problems with my Injen (with stock ECU), but apparently thats rare.

A (very) good combo, is headers + intake + exaust with ECU + tune. ECU us expencive tho and a good tuner is hard to find.

As with any NA car, start with the basics. Get the air in and ou more efficiently.

So exhaust system and induction for sure. Going further starts to get a pricier but you can look at tuning of the factory ECU, light weight pulleys for the engine, more aggressive cams, light weight rims (double benefit as it is rotational mass), a lightened flywheel (same principal as rims though can affect driveabilty for some).

The list goes on and on and costs more and more lol if you're super keen you can look at engine rebuilds including an increase in bore size, higher compressions, forced induction etc, you're limited by your wallet so work out how much you wanna spend then go from there :)
