how much can a corolla sportivo tow?

Hi,

I'm considering installing a towbar on my toyota corolla sportivo 2003model. Was wondering if 141kws was enough to tow a trailer with a bit of weight in it? Say the trailer had 500kilos of stuff in it. Thinking about something bigger then your standard box trailer. Other ideas i would consider is modifying the rolla for more pulling power not sure how though.

Any information or ideas would be great guys thanks.

For towing you won't be looking at the power a vehicle has, at least that value by itself anyway. You're more interested in the amount of torque produced and for that you can do a search on www.redbook.com.au for the vehicle you're interested in. Under the specifications section you should see, among other things, the numerical values for power (kW) and torque (N m). One of the aforementioned 'other things' is a towing capacity, given in terms of braked and non braked loads.

A 2003 sportivo can pull a 4.15 tinne all day long (incl trailer say 300kg). the only time i know it's there is off the line.

toyota blessed the sportivo with a 6spd that revs hard on the freeway. i've barely notice a difference in fuel economy either
