I have a 1986 Corolla Seca, that was in a crash about two weeks ago. It took minimal damage, and there was nothing noticeably wrong mechanically. It needed a new front bumper and headlights, but ran fine. The other day I tried to start it so it didn't get too run down. But it had a flat battery, and so I tried to hill start it but only had a small hill to do it on. Because it was so small it took three or four times, and on the fourth it just didn't do anything. No churn of the engine or resistance as it tried to start, just a faint whine. I got a different battery and it started fine, but as soon as I tried to move it nothing engaged. There was the faint whine again, but the car didn't move at all. Its a manual, and the clutch could be fulling engaged while it was in gear. Besides the engine running smoothly, the only thing it would do while in gear is the faint whine. Would it just be the clutch that need replacing? Or the whole gear box? It doesn't work in any gear, including reverse.
