HI all,

About to convert my sons ra 65 from auto to manual. Got a donor car but was missing a box but have been able to get two 5 speeds with correct bolt pattern for the 22r. Before i jump in, is there anything that i should look out for. I might need help sourcing a clutch fork assembly. Is there any easy way to tell what w series boxes i have.

Cheers Adam

Found my self a clutch fork assembly up on the sunshine coast at Sunstate Gearbox & Diffs. Friendly and a great help. Going to put the car up on stands this weekend and pull out the auto. Should have all the parts by Wednesday(new cutch, master and slave). Saw the donor car has a bracket for the slave cylinder hose. Hope it is aready fitted on the existing car.

Auto come out nice on easy. Started putting all the manual bits in tonight. Pedals are in, master cylinder and lines are in. The bracket for the slave cylinder was just a bolt in and the holes are on the existing car. Makes this easy. Fly wheel is on and then went to put the clutch in and on of the bolts for the pressure plate broke when i went to tension them up. At 13 ft/pds didn't expect that. Any way continue on the weekend, hoping the broken bolt comes out easy.

Adam.

Just updating my progress. Maybe some one can learn from things i found. Gearbox is in now. Went to put it in last night and found that the bell housing that was on the box was missing ond of the dowel holes near the exhaust. Might be the hilux box! Lucky i had a second not so good box but the bellhousing did have the hole. So swapped housings over and box went in. Speedo drives were the same between manual and auto so i was able to swap them with no drama. Gearbox cross member is the same but mounts differently. The mount turns 180 degrees and the cross member bolts in the first 4 holes, not the back 4 as with the auto. Hopefully all that is left is the neutral safety switch circuit, reverse switch and tail shaft.

Finally done. Got busy at work so took time to get it finished. Neutral safety switch was easy. the two connections on the wiring harness plugged into each other and the reverse lights were a simple wire up. Think the shifter i got is a hilux one. Seems to sit a little forward of where i think it should be. Have now found that the brake master is leaking and can't find someone that sells one. I'm getting the existing one reconditioned through Repco.
