Help finding blank Transponder key!

Hi all, I am new to the club but have been reading with interest all of your helpful info!

I wonder whether you can help me.

I am based in country NSW and have just purchased a 2002 Toyota Corolla Conquest wagon. :)

Love the car, which came with only one key, which starts the car etc. I assume this is the master key but can't see where

you'd open it to replace anything.

I'd love to get a remote locking key and have been reading up on the net about buying a blank transponder key which I should then be

able to program.

I haven't easily located any keys and Toyota dealer costs a fortune.

Does anyone know where I can buy a blank key which I can get a local locksmith to cut for me?

I'd really appreciate any help.

Because you want a remote key you are stuck getting one from Toyota, around $350 for the key, cut and programmed to your car, if you don't like that price you don't want to know what it will cost you if you loose all your keys :)

You will also need a master key to do this, the master is normally the one with the remote on it, what colour is the head of your key, if it's gray you have the valet key and Toyota won't be able to do the job anyway.

Isn't the master key the same as the service/valet key? I purchased my corolla with only that key as the previous owner had lost/broken the other 2 remote ones, I then had to go to toyota to get 2 new ones which I got cut by a locksmith and then programmed by some computer guy.

You can get aftermarket transponders and they will cost you around 90

No it's not the same, the Master is needed to put the car into program mode, this is so you can delete existing keys, add new master or Valet keys and also add/ remove remotes, if you only have the Valet key you can not do any of this. The Master key can be made to the car by some Locksmiths but this isn't cheap. If you only have your Valet key and need a spare you can get your keys cloned, this copies the information from the transponder on your key and puts the same info on a new key, the car can't tell the difference between the two keys.

Thanks so much fora responding! does anyone know of a reliable site to purchase the remote key through? I would class my key as black so I'm hoping it's the master key but will try to confirm. Cheers, danielle

As far as I know there are no after market remotes for these, but I haven't really looked for it either. The problem that you have to look for other than the quality with cheap remotes is the frequency, the same cars made for other regions can use different frequency's so they won't work here.

I went to the local locksmiths today and he told me about a new product that is due in aus next month.

Its a fob with four buttons that can do remote open lock on two cars at once.

Did he mention a brand? The issue is that most new remotes use a rolling code and the aftermarket remotes that are used can't work with all of the rolling code remotes.

It's most likely a product by remote king.
