Hello everyone,

This is my first post here so I guess it's a case of welcome aboard :)

I've got a 2005 Corolla Ascent with the dodgy factory radio that I want to replace but have a bit of a concern with the wiring. I assume that all the Corollas of this era have the six speaker system installed in them but are the two tweeters sitting near the top of the dash wired in conjunction with the two main front speakers. I intend putting in a Sony single DIN Xplode unit that I picked up on special at Super Cheap yesterday along with the wiring harness adaptor. Will I encounter any techinical problems fitting it. I've already found a few guides for getting the front trim etc off so I should be right there.

Just for the record if anyone else is having trouble with the factory radio not playing cd's which is my problem I have learned that it only likes "re-writable" discs.

the sony will probably be narrower than the OEM stereo ..... u will need to get a stereo surround filler kit .... i remember i got one from strathfield car radio for like $25 when i replaced my double din with a single din sony .... if u have the harness kit then it should just all wire up

Thanks Xoom. The unit is in the car & sounds wicked but i knew it would. I've got one of the earlier models of this radio in my Hilux, ( yes I own two Toyotas) & with the six speaker set up in the Corolla it pumps. The harness didn't work out as well as I thought it would, matched Toyota but not Sony. Back to crimping connections, at least all the wires were marked + & -. And you were right about the filler kit, will need one. I'll probably have to order it online as I don't have the luxury of living in a capital city. Any other suggestions apart from Strathfield.

atleast it all worked out ..... u could give ebay a try or just google around .... only issue with this approach is u wont now if its gonna be right until after u buy it ..... as the first filler kit i got didnt quiet work out so u might have a few trial and error scenarios.

I got the head unit & speakers changed in my '05 corolla by Dynamic Car Installation. They're based in Hinchinbrook (Liverpool area NSW). If you like, you can go to them & they'll wire the whole lot for you at a decent price mate.

Turns out I did have the filler kit after all. At the same time I bought the unit I also bought a spacer coin tray to suit & promptly threw out the two loose plastic pieces that came with it, didn't have a clue what they were for (bloody idiot). The penny dropped when I saw it on the Super Cheap site today & realised their purpose. Guess I'll have to buy another one :( In reply to ParvezK, Liverpool NSW is a bloody long way from Far North Queensland, but nobody on here would have realised that.

Damn, sorry about that bud. I just realised now that you're in QLD! Woops haha

I totally re-wired my stereo - Didn't replace the front speakers, was a sony unit aswell :) double din t/screen.

I can confirm the tweeters are wired together with the front speakers. Unsure if there is a low/hi pass filter somewhere, I would assume so. But can also confirm that I'm only receiving high frequencies out of the tweeters.

I didn't think about wiring harnesses I love to solder... Done a few of these now in all my cars I've owned. Right down to the amps in the back (That I never screw in cause I get to lazy...)
