  1. Many moons ago I lost the skirting of the car and stupidly just cut the whole thing out and really want it back. It's the part that wraps right around the wheel, and underneath the engine. I believe (Correct me if I'm wrong) it would have helped with aerodynamics, and I also have notcied the front bar likes to flexalot now that it's not there. It has made it alot easier to do oil changes, etc but I'd rather keep the engine clean. Anyone know where I can pick up a new one? I've been thinking about just going to a wreckers. Also is it only the sportivo's that had them or did all corollas come out with them?
  2. I totally re-wired my stereo - Didn't replace the front speakers, was a sony unit aswell :) double din t/screen. I can confirm the tweeters are wired together with the front speakers. Unsure if there is a low/hi pass filter somewhere, I would assume so. But can also confirm that I'm only receiving high frequencies out of the tweeters. I didn't think about wiring harnesses I love to solder... Done a few of these now in all my cars I've owned. Right down to the amps in the back (That I never screw in cause I get to lazy...)
  3. Sorry to post this so late but - The Sportivo's had issues with their gearboxes. Check out the stickies :) I managed to get a brand new gearbox out of hinterland toyota cause they could never figure it out (Told them about it everytime I took it for a service then 5 days out of warranty the guy finally said yeah theres a problem...But since I had been telling them for so long Toyota HO told them to replace the box at their own cost :D) - it also didn't fix the situation. Always felt like the gear stick would double click in and then you knew it was engaged, 1st to 2nd was impossible to shift aswell. didnt matter where I shifted at. Replaced everything with stage 2 clutch kit (All up parts and labour was $900) Got a faster response out of it and no more gearshifting issues - Ever :)
  4. Cheers for the replies :) Will be taking it in again to the mechanics hopefully very shortly. Will point the mechanics to this page. They are xperienced but just haven't worked on this type of engine before and information is quite hard to come by. Xoom I wouldn't have minded if they left the power fc in it :P Filters were all cleaned out during the rebuild - to my knowledge and paperwork alot has been replaced, but all to toyota specs si everything should be fine and matching. Keep yas posted - hopefully with good news :D
  5. Yeah I just had my engine rebuilt - And it ain't lifting properly either atm but working with the mechanic currently on that issue. I had a little bit of extra work done to the engine - mild port and polish and replaced the timing chain, guides, stainless valves and springs etc basically repaced as much as possible cost me just under $6000 ( and 3 months in the waiting time for parts, mechanic hadn't heard of MWR decided to get everything custom made ;/ ) - Thing that **** me is a brand new 2 ltr 2zzge is about 9k - Coulda whacked that in and saved a ****** load of hassle and gained a **** load more power!
  6. G'day, Just had the engine rebuilt and port and polised in the Sportivo after bending 8 valves.... She's driving beautifully now down low,eve torquier than before - Have been asked to wear it in and then I give it a go at the 1200km mark Car won't rev past 7000 RPM - You can feel it trying to open to high lift but it just flattens straight out. Have thrown it on a computer to figure out if we are receiving any CEL warnings but sadly no. I am dead certain the lift bolts are not an issue - It's an '05 model stivo so it had the new design bolts in it, and asides from that prior to taking it to the mechanics for the rebuild, I needed to make sure i had it in high revs or the bitch would stall, average of 25% compression in 3 Cylinders and 1 Cylinder had full cmpression. So as any normal driver would do --> I lifted the whole way to the mechanics without an issue :P Would I be correct in assuming if we aren't getting any CEL warnings or check engine lights that the sensors should be fine? I've done a little bit of research on this issue and can't find a whole lot on it. Basically I'm looking for something to give the mechanic so he has somewhat of a checklist to check on. After paying $6000 for the rebuild I really want this to work, And with the power I'm getting down low now - I can't wait to hit lift.
  7. I can't quite remember what the brand was but I got a stage 2 light weight flywheel and clutch kit for $650 Was a F1 purchased it if Ebay :) Gave me extra HP aswell the rev jumps up alot quicker. Installation of it was done by Tunex in Harbour Town - was charged about $500 for the install. Was really happy with it. Not a very hard job to replace, just need to remove the wheel hub from what I heard. I was quoted about 3500 from Toyota and that was with standard clutch. Also - When this was replaced it fixed that ****ty 1st - 2nd gear shift. I complained to Toyota about that **** for ages - Even managed to get a brand new gearbox outta em - Pity that didn't fix it but I got a new gearbox at 75k so not complaining :) You don't need a heavy duty clutch in your car unless you are putting down alot of power - My stivo is approx 190 HP and the clutch is rated to about 275 hp - IMHO suit the clutch to your car and your needs.
  8. Definately your clutch! I had the exact same issue. Needed to use the top of my foot to pull it back into position... The Fix - New clutch & Flywheel... P.S I paid about $850 for my F1 lightened flywheel and clutch installed...You guys are gettin ripped :P Check out this link http://cgi.ebay.com/F1-STAGE-2-CLUTCH-KIT-FLYWHEEL-00-05-CELICA-GTS-2ZZ-GE_W0QQitemZ350314747494QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item519062d666 Currently have this xact setup and I swear by it. Have used Exedy clutches before, very bitey. These are perfectly suited to the HP we put out...And will handle about 250HP :D And with the lightened flywheel, she is so responsive, runs up the revs quite quickly :D
  9. Spotted Rol14 and the other red Stivo (Forgot the plate) at willowbank. But missed your runs :( Damn announcer kept telling everyone to go back to their cars...Really wanted to to drag Rol14 too, but she was always lined up to far in front and couldn't get a shot... Next time ;)
  10. :P Exhaust is too damn loud!!! but the new airbox makes it helluva lot quieter. How u been long time no see! Haven't been in here for a while. Done much to the car lately? Just come back from 2nd drag night, ran a 15.2.... I Should be able to get better than that :P only .4 off both the V8's I raced :D
  11. I did mine th eexpensive way. installed muffler first *twin pipe, not sure what make, would needa find out* This did nothing. After this I got stainless steel 2.5" to the cat. This didn't do much either, a lil more torque replaced cat with 2.5" Hi flow cat *again, not sure wot make* and the difference wax extremely noticable with low to mid torque. Didn't notice much more up higher. Just alot damn louder Still havent replaced extractors yet, but talking with stoitsch in miami qld atm. expensive...and definately the wrong way to go about it...but I wanted to spend money...and I did notice what each thing did in seperate stages...Basically the whole system was useless until I did the cat and unless u got f/i 3" is a massive loss of back pressure
  12. Saw Flier comin couple days back Jumpin onto the highway at Nerang sth....Wish I had my car, My stivo was victim to another deadly pot hole on Old Coach Road.. Both left mags gone, had to replace both I was following in a ****ty Camry!!!jet43...The name Implies nothing.... Nxt time mate :P and you took my exhaust aswell :P But Damn they sound nice, so I can understand why
  13. If you know how much RMS per channel the head deck puts out on each channelthat is very handy. I know the issue with old stock head decks was that they didn't put out much power. Most head decks these days put out a min of about 40w thru each channel. This is not RMS. Correct me if I'm wrong but RMS is roghly Wattage divided by 3. RMS is a more accurate measurement of power. Depending on the speakers you purchase is how well they will perform. purchasing something that runs at 200w is not necessary unless you are running amplifiers. And if the speakers you purchase say Nominal 200w, they are useless. That means normal running rate these speakers need 200w to work well..Your stk speakers would have done a better job, or if they are an expensive set, will sound the same/meagre imprvements. I have found when using the existing head deck, the punch series rockford fosgates seem to be a great speaker. Not requiring large amountsof power, but the peak rate is unbelievable for some which means if you do want to amlify your speakers it's possible. Mind you. The cheapest way to do it is to purchase a line convertor. Cut the wires frm your speakers, wire the amp up to those wires, and then purchase a cheaper set of speakers that run off amps :P Make sure the amp you purchase has a line out, and then you can simply add on extra speakers with extra amps ;D
  14. G'day With the help of Evo, I finally found my way :) albeit a little bit late but, we still got there! Was good to meet everyone, looking forward to popping up and catchin up a lil more often wanna start heading out for track days and how'd the new strut go evo?
  15. hey jeriko, if you want to, we can meet up and i can take you there no sweat :D thats if your up for it? Sounds like it was a good turnout B) damn.... i seriously hope i can get my wheel back today :o Evo Sounds like a good idea! Was looking forward to last nite aswell...damm
  16. **** I h8 Brissie! damn long drive too... Got up there...got lost...got frustrated...got home Me thinks the first mod I should have done was a GPS :P Will make a second attempt next week
  17. im thinkin im gonna be runnin late. how long do u stay put for? And where the f* u goin?
  18. Might have to head up and check this out ay :) I'm guessing the loopish looking pool?
  19. Do the power FC's have their own OBDCII? Or do they have a serial communcations device behind it so it can pass information through?? have been reverse engineering computer ***** for a few years now and I've always loved saving $$$ :P The one thing is I was always told it's basically useless tuning your car unless you have a Dyno to get real power readings from.
  20. Out of curiosity. I am currently looking at the OBDCII for the sportivo. To tune the PFC correctly you need to have the datalogit and a couple of other pieces of hardware which seem quite damn expensive. Does the OBDCII not have knock sensors etc in it. If so, running a copy of centrafuse on a computer that is connected to a dvd head deck, you would be able to find out all of this information. And there may even be software out there already tat will log your information over a period. I have been looking into this for a while as I have been wanting to know every little detail on how the car is performing in regards to air/fue ratio's etc. OBDCII lets you into that? *Just thinking...This could be a cheaper option, plus the added benefit of a decent stereo :P and GPS for $50 etc anything u can think of as a usb dongle. Viable?
  21. Details for me are a little useless :P I'm an IT manager. You want me to put a t/screen computer in your car...easy enough :P Where abouts are you? and what directly are you looking for cause I would be quite happy to let you tinker around with my car. No other mechanics want to touch it, Or they will touch it but it's *Developement* and can't guarantee the car etc.
  22. It was set there because marketing said so. Just like marketing says turbo cars have to have lag... There is no general rule for where to set lift, set the high cam change over where it makes more power than the low cam. I was under the impression turbo's lag due to the amount of power they need to start spooling. I have been looking into these aswell as I had been looking into Electronic Superchargers...It's allright, I know... Don't touch em . Apparently, they are looking into having ball bearing turbo's but to have an electrical current running through it so it's always "2 some degree" ready for boost and always spinning at approx 3 - 5g revs. Only issue they seem to be hacing at the moment is an electronic supercharger/turbo need to much current and the battery simply can't doll out enough. But off that topic.. I have lift :P sounds better, feels better. and compared with a turbo I can apparently set it to come on whenever I want. Better :P Obviously, any mechanic I talk to down here is stupid. Since reading through what you people have told me. Exhaust systems can be enhanced and all sorts of stuff. The surface Evo7 is damn thick to start scratchin at and as a non mechanic, I got's nfi cept for what I have researched. Thursday night :) I believe thats tommorow night! Might have to catch up with a few of the sportivo bretheren and see what everyone else has been doing since I'm so late coming to the party. And I might just add. This forum has probably been one of, if not the most helpful in regards to my car. It's brilliant. And to have such a successful following of a car. I believe this website has helped alot.
  23. G'day, I've had a sportivo now for about 18 mths. God damn I love it! When I first got it, peope used to tell me the restrictors to give it a bit more. Like that butterfly clip in the airbox, And then the intake pipe... It's gotten to the point where that isn't enough now. I have since removed the bumper and fitted a pod filter down in front of the wheel well. Nice cheap mod more power. But that's about as far as I can go. I live on the Gold Coast, and I have been looking for a mechanic for at least 6 mths. Ask most people have you worked on a 2zz and they say what's that? I say N/A they say go away! I'm not looking to do anywork internally on the engine, as I am saving up at the moment for a race spec engine that will just slip in, But there are still things I can do now. New ECU - I have been looking at these and I have heard alot about the Power FC and seen this unit. Looks to be quite good. But another one I saw was the Camcon. Both of these units allow me to adjust lift, and my air fuel ratio. I want to drop lift so it kicks in at about 5,600 maybe 5,400 but usually it doesn't drop below 5,5 and thats a pretty damn ****ty shift. Extractors - My mate's got a 200sx that has a bit of work done to it. He looks at my dump pipe and drools. All the exhaust shops I go to say I won't get a powergain from putting a different exhaust system on it. Boxing the Pod - Going to the Dyno this morning, they looked at my little cheap mod and shamed me. Flexible/Expanding hoses. Apparently this Pulses the air and screws the path of it causing pulses. But, the other part they said was there is no point removing the air box. The pod may sound louder, but the/an airbox makes a helluva lot difference. The Gearbox is a barrel of fun in itself. Lucky Me, got myself a brand new gearbox when the first when screwed itself. 3 days out of warranty :P. Obviously these boxes are an absolute (*&^ abd*) I could go on. I now have a brand new box with about 13k on it. I plan on fitting in the Jun Lightweight flywheel *looks to be lighter than the TRD or Exedy* and the exedy single plate heavy duty clutch. Since reading today people also put in LSD's into the gearbox while all this off aswell so thats sounds a go here. But how do I fix the bAAaaad shift from 1st to 2nd. Many people have said when they fitted the TRD clutch kit, all the gearbox issues seemed to fade away. Can I hope for this? *I'm crossin my fingers you'll say yes!* I will throw up my Dyno read sheet, But after having a chat with Gavin Wood, he has told me I can get a little bit more power but not a whole lot. Putting in a new ecu he can remap the torque holes and where it riches at about 4500 and then leans at lift. He can fix all the bad mapping. You prolly want to know the Dyno reading? 147.2 HP :) Was shocked myself. and the expression on the person Dyno'in the car... Priceless. He laughed when I drove in with a corolla :P love sleepers. I am no mechanic. I have been trawling these forums for a while now, just on basic information on the car. But does anyone know where I can talk face to face with someone to understand this car just a little more and to make some kind of plan on where I want to go with the modifications. In my head, I know what I want to do, but simply don't have anyone to talk to that a) knows the car B) Wants to talk about it Tunex have been nice enough to say they can have a look at it and see what they can do. But again. I am paying them for their own R&D. I don't want to do that. I want to find a mechanic and say What extractors do you recommend for this car. And then they don't just recommend, they ask the question "Well what do you want it for? Street, Track, Drag?" Cheers
  24. Do Not Goto Hinterland Toyota in Nerang!!! I've owned my sportivo now for a lil over a yr. And Absolutely love the car. But, I must have managed to get the worst out of the lot. The engine has already been replaced before I had purchased it (Which was at 28k) 1 week after purchasing the differential needed to be replaced as something broke in it and went throughout the internals. BUT the biggest issue I have, which seems to be the same as many others here is the gearbox. Same as many people, Everytime I took the car in for a service I would tell them, the car does not get into gear properly, Especially down gearing. 1st to 2nd is impossible to smoothly change *Don't even try to rev it up to 7,500 she won't go into gear, just crunch the **** out of the gears. I told them I wanted someone to look at the car. Which finally someone did....once it was 4 days out of warranty. The person who was testing the car had said he thought it was due to an enlarged gap in the synchro meshes...I said great just **** fix it. Good bit is , still a warranty job. They came back to me and said we want to replace the whole gearbox *So a car that has done under 45,000 now has brand new engine, dif and gearbox* I told them No, I do not want you to replace the gearbox. I want you to open it! Look inside and replace anything in that gearbox that is covered under warranty. They then come back to me and say Yes, this is a warranty job. But Toyota Australia will only pay half... I got on the phone cut sick and 30 minutes later got a call direct from Toyota Australia saying my job will be covered 100%...(Toyota Australia are great for their service. The dealership wanted extra. The biggest give away was them trying to charge me labour to replace the clutch after he had taken the gearbox off...Taking the gearbox off is part of the warranty job. Therefore I should not have been charged labour to remove the gearbox once more to put the clutch into it. The Dealership I refer to is Toyota Hinterland in Nerang. Little do I know, What I had asked them to do originally, Was not done. They ripped out the old gearbox and then put a new gearbox into it. I have a lil issue though. The gearbox still has the exact same **** issue. Sure it shifts a lil more shoother. But Car does not like going into reverse, even if you let the car idle for 10 secs and then slowly *Click* it into gear. Nothing seems to slide into gear with this gearbox, everything clicks. Going from 2nd to first is a nightmare, I do alot of mountain driving, which means hairpins cliffs etc. most of my driving is done in 2nd and 3rd gear. But when I approach a hair pin and can't get it into 1st that is a safety issue! The Funny bit is when the service manager said Toyota Australia has done this out of *Good Will* and I should not expect anyone to look into this matter any further. Well guess what. Your going to have to open the Brand New Gearbox under the new 1 YR warranty. And I specifically stated I did not want someone to simply replace the gearbox, I wanted someone to open the gearbox and find out what was wrong. I had also signed an authorization *Since the car was out of warranty* stating that I wanted them to figure out what the problem was and I was happy to pay them $600 to Diagnose the issue. Which was to be charged to me if the job was found unwarrantable. So, In summation. Does anyone know of any absolute inherent issues with these gearboxes in particular? I've gone through the forums and people have talked about a clutch adjustment, but apparently the clutch is electronic so it does not require adjustment... *Another interesting thing is though, When I got my car back with new gearbox, how can the clutch feel so light, compared to the spring in it previously.
  25. Yes the red corolla with rays rims would be me Evo :D been a while since I've been back here...Not that I did much in here... Any cruises happen anymore?
