Wiring to ignition

Hi there, am new to the toc forums and haven't actually done much in the way of modding at all as yet.

Was just wondering (since I can't seem to find anything on this in the forums) whats the easiest way to wire up something like the cd player so that it only receives power when the ignition switch is on? Seems like a simple enough task but have no idea where to look. I've think I've got a corolla ascent hatch 2002 and have no idea what model number this corresponds to. tHe 1zz-FE, 3ZZ-FE and all that is confusing me :(.

Welcome to the forums! WHere are u located?

Your Ascent (like all outher non-sportivo corollas) will be a 1ZZE, which refers to our engine type.

AS for your question, do a serach on the forum for stock toyota headunit wiring, u'll find the pin laout will have a ignition (+) line, and thats the one u need.

Almost all head units today will have a wire to input this to, and this will control the ig on/off of the unit!

Hmmm ok then.

What u need to do is to tap the ig + cable you can use the one leading to the stereo or trace that to its source and use that.

So you've got your ig+ tapped and then you need to wire this to a switch, this consitutes your power on.

you will connect the other bit of the switch to a relay (the back of the relay will tell u how to wire it up to ur accessory)

and then when ig is on AND you close the switch , the ig + voltage will turn the relay on which will then power ur accessories. (the relay is connected to the battery and will only power items from the battery when u give it voltage from on "on" source, in this case ur ig +)

where are you located? if ur're in melb i can help u out

No need to trace the wire man, just splice it!

i prefer to trace the wire just coz i like to follow where the stock wiring is threaded through the chassis.

the ciggy one seems like a good idea actually, and if i'm not wrong runs its own fuze as well, even better!
