  1. Lol, a diy, el cheapo charger solution is discussed and i'm not involved. no respect for the old timers I tell ya. in theory its possible. of course the thing would need to be built just like a real supercharger, then you'd need a BIG electric motor to reach the torque and power of the motor AND you'd need a very powerful electrical source to run it. Afterall that you'd need an ECU and MAF/MAP that could handle the extra whooosh of air Someone did the maths on it before and it was approx the number of Amps equivalent to a boot full of car batteries to get the charge required for decent "boost" There was a guy in the US that built them as "rechargable" NOS like systems and it involved having loads of extra batteries in the boot too. Mmm.... old topics rehashed
  2. it the previous generation passat mate. just figured it was time to get a phat cruiser and chill. still miss my hatches tho. wait wait.. is that actually white? doesnt look like it.. <_< btw.. what VW is it?? looks nice!!!
  3. lol, yeah, i actually wanted these in shadow chrome, but the guy i bought it from took them and got it powder coated in pearl silver and clear coated. then discovered they didn't fit the car lol. his loss my gain. one day they'll be chrome again ;)
  4. Hey hey, congrats on the new car. AEM make a nice CAI for that celica, or contact danz who may be able to shed more light on the subject. oh, and take the caps lock off. all caps makes it seem like you're shouting at us. Torque is a tricky thing with N/A screamers like this one. Did you mean up on the high end in lift? or low / mid range? Realistically unless you start going forced induction, the best gains you'll get is a ith an exhuast and an intake, and that won't gain u much at all.
  5. Whoa... flash back to my very first mod. and meeting danz for the first time. lol. I think in an old thread danz did a hard drive run on a cold night post mod and foudn that the TB was still cold to touch after the spirited driving. I doubt canberra's cold weather will be much of an issue as I've had my rolla up in the mountains with the mod done and cold starts were fine.
  6. those that might remember will noticed I've actaully RAISED the car *gasp* shock! that's coz the oil pan on stock cars rests 4 inches off the ground and when you've dumped it to 2 fingers height... well lets just say i've had enough of nervousness over speed bumps. It rests a respectable 3 fingers off the tyre now, and i sleep much better at night.
  7. Thought I'd show off my shiny new Carlssons.
  8. Did I read correctly that you paid over 4k for that sound system? No offense but methinks you should have gotten better advice regarding the gear you put in. Did you sealed the service holes in the doors did you just use the dynamat or did you put some plywood / mdf under? Else the dynamat has been known to flex under doof without proper backing (even with multiple layers)
  9. The engine will not allow you to engage lift when its cold. as for the rest of the bogging, lets see what the others have to say bout that.
  10. Yeah, don't worry, its just like that for fitting. Our egg head reakons the kevlar belt will the the trick but i'm thinking of retro fitting a chain system in there, it'll be able to take the abuse much better.
  11. Sigh, i was hoping for some feed back on the engine build too. Have a look at the block again and you'll see some of my own custom work to bung our magic power source in. Because I'm not too familiar with holden running gear i'm not sure if i've used the right gears. See the yellow power gear in the front of the block? Thats where all the torque is made! i just hope the rolla sub fram can take it
  12. Righto, its been a long time since i've had my rolla, but i couldn't resist when i saw a blue stivo come on the market cheap, the fool had tried to fiddle with FI and blown the engine up so I picked it up as rolling stock to build a weekend dragger (CAMS license only) will I go a new 2zz in? Heck no! I got a special lil box from the Holden factory sitting in my garage ready to go. its all easy once you stop needing to worry bout getting it road registerted. fitting stuff under the bonnet? A thing of the past, we're going to have most of the block sticking out like the american draggers of old. The most impressive thing? this baby is going to run off veges and nuts! I don't understand the exact science of it but our team engineer works for the CSIRO in alternative fuels and has come up with this. We're in the final stages of negotiations for corporate sponsorship from the energy companies to promote green fuels. Here's a pic of the prototype engine. no dyno figures yet, we're still in build phase but i'll post up more details when I have more info. Green Power!
  13. Good old eonon and belcanto Head units. I remember when big bum and i both had these. for what they do, you are awesome units and i've never had any issues with the installation for these things. Just remember not to expect a full blown SQ unit out of these. They make noise, and the look bling. As i understand it there are a few different models around by a couple of different factories, it could have been a loom issue (i.e. wrong pinouts = voltage to wrong pin = boom) hope you get your money back.
  14. glad to see the ole forum hasn't lost any of its spirit! Fight Fight Fight Fight Fight!
  15. You don't need to tamper with the ODO, just get a new dash cluster and pop it in and BAM! Your ODO numbers have changed. Tried and tested people, If you want to test this, try do it with a friend with the same camry, just swop the clusters and see what happens
  16. You got rid of chrome rims?! I'm crushed!
  17. its not worth the time and effort, any cheap aftermarket HU from a decent brand will beat the stock HU hands down. Try google mobile electronics australia and join the forums there, lots of cheap stuff in the for sale section u can consider. P.s. Audio is a bloody addictive thing to build up tho. just ask brandon (big bum) here's my current audio evolution from the rolla to my current car. Rolla Stock Audio (single cd) -> Rolla Stock audio (6 cd) -> Pioneer double din -> (brandon i can't remember the modle number) Belcanto double din dvd screen -> JVC kd-av7008 -> Nakamichi CD700 And don't even get started on the amps and speakers and eqs! just stick to a decently cheap hu and don't start the slippery slide!
  18. WOw, thank *** no ones was hurt! Perhaps after this experience you might want to consider something newer then ur s15 with mroe safety features. 25 also buys you a nice volvo s40, vw passat / golf gti, all of which are turboed and IMO at least would take care of you better in a crash vs the S15. and i think it would be good not to turn this thread in to a parts poaching session, if you want to find details on parts, just PM the guy.
  19. That replacement facia for 60 is a great thing to have. does it turn it into a single or double din? and pls pls pls for the sake of good music do NOT put 6 x 9s in there. do a google or go read up on MEA forums, but 6 x 9 is not an optimum design for a speaker and it is far far better to go with a normal (round) component speaker. having said that it seems that it would require some custom work to get normal round speakers in the car... how much do u fellas want to spend on custom mounts?
  20. those navones are meant to be the more decent out of the line converters, but i think the MEA store has been out of stock for a while now. not to mention line converters are really suspectible to noise. Try the 65 buck ish stinger one from jb hi fi? there is a 25 dollar version but i've personally used that and its noisy as... On a side note, my intentions on referring you to MEA were less for you to buy and hunt for gear but more to learn. As you've mentioned your're not too experienced with this audio stuff and MEA will give you a good grounding on the basics. Learning things like the difference between hi and lo level inputs, Xovers, and differences in how you can setup a system is very important . And in time you can also learn what you want in a system and how to pick the right bits for it. As suggested, if your're a msn user, add me on and its probably easier to talk there.
  21. Do a search, i did a guide to putting a set of fogs into my re facelift rolla, but the concept will be the same. wire them up via a relay. and if you don't have the fog control on your stalk you will need an extra switch to provide the on signal. if you have no idea what i'm talking about, bring it to an auto elec. as it may be an easy DIY job but you can stuff things up and hurt urself. there's serious amps in a car's electrical system
  22. go join up at mobile electronics aust forums and start learning what they have to offer. http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/ but the gist of it is. if you want sound quality and good staging, don't bother with the rear speakers, they are there purely for the comfort of ur passengers. to retain the stock audio you can either use a line convertor (not the best SQ) and the use those as preouts for ur amps and subs. Or google the rockford fosgate 3sixty processor which is the better option. also find a good installer who can guide you. if your're in melb i recommend audiofx down in camberwell. once the audio bug bites you, you will be in trouble. the stock HU will not satisfy you for long, you'll want better speakers and on and on and on.
  23. yeah, the lancer driver was a good kid. came out and apologized and we swopped details. but pisses me off that the damage to my car will cost more then his.
  24. So there i am pulling into an angle parking lot. slowly pull into the lot and SLAM! from behind, the world shakes, the car flies forward. bits fly around in the car. BAM! the car jumps the kurb and SLAM! into a tree... no one was hurt. but that damned silver lancer that hit me got off with less damage than me. seems he was swerving to avoid a cab that was pulling out of the lot a few spots away, and he kept going... into the passat. sigh. even tho i'm not at fault it seems that it will be very hard to get them to pay for a rental car whilst the vw is fixed. which i'm told will take weeks. anyone give advice? got a spare car i can use?
  25. my best mate is in syd and i go up every 3 months to chill with him. the latest trip being across the easter break. Tbh i think that people in sydney are colder and more agressive then in the rest of the country. Not to mention the price of real estate and rental are disproportionately high to the level of pay compared to the rest of the country. This line from you worries me: "I recently met some really cool ppl from Sydney while in Melbourne and it got me thinking...maybe i should consider makin the move over there." (1) You met a bunch of nice people who were on holiday, fair enough, but who is their grouchy normal self whilst on holiday? you'll most likely be more relaxed and carefree. (2) Your're asking a bunch of people you don't know over the internet of an unknown age, income, maturity level about this big move in your life? what's next, we find you a wife? I may sound harsh, but hey at least i'm lookign out for ya.
