2009 RAV4 Project(s)

Hi Guys,

Just sold our 2008 Corolla and picked up a 2009 RAV4 SX6. So i'm moving on over here to share some of my modification plans/pictures.

I will update this in the coming days with some pictures of the actual car.

My short term plans are;

New shoes
Intake

Smart Entry Ignition

Aftermarket Headlights

Front illuminated Toyota emblem
Exhaust

Headunit
HID kit
LED reverse lights
Reverse parking camera

Plans for the next few months.

I'm considering changing the very familiar tailgate with spare over for one of the US Sport tailgates that has the spare removed. I'm pretty keen, just waiting on freight quotes to determine the viability of the project.

If i get enough interest prior to the project taking place i will try to make a video and compile a list of all the parts required for the change over.

For those of you that have not seen the tailgate i'm referring to here are some shots.

Update*

I have ordered the rear tailgate picture above from www.usatoyotaparts.com (one of the only places prepared to ship an item that big to Australia)

Cost for the gate assembly + freight comes in at $990 USD. Not sure how that compares to buying the local gate assembly.

More updates to follow.

UPDATE: I've ordered the RAV4 Sport tailgate door shell from the United States. Took a while to find someone willing to actually ship to Australia, but will keep you all updated as the project proceeds.

Looks good, will definitely be unique here! Where are you going to put the spare?

Well, the US model simply did not have a spare. They left the remainder of the vehicle the same. And since it won't fit in the rear lower storage compartment the only real option is to use run flat tires........

I guess it would be possible to get around with a repair kit/12v compressor in the back and hope you don't get a blow out.... But i'm not keen on that.

So the spare will be put in the shed ;)

Hello,

Unfortunately, I have not finished yet. The tailgate is still in transit..... I think it must be getting shipped over the Pacific Ocean via Canoe.....

Will hopefully arrive soon and can get things under way.

via Canoe... lol... hope it doesn't sink.

Have you ordered the bottom garnish trim and the number plate garnish trim ?

If I had seen your post earlier, we could have just swapped.tailgates.. :)

Hi Guys,

It's been a while but the tailgate is finished. I'll post up the finished product soon.

Also, in the meantime i have imported a UK instrument cluster and installed it. It required a little bit of rewiring, but it gives the cluster a range and AVG/INST fuel consumption feature. Plus slightly larger LCD.

If anyone is interested in this let me know, I'll do a write up.

Very interested in your UK cluster project. Do you have a write up?
