I need a big help from you guys.

I have a 2009 Kluger (Grande).

Since few weeks - security alarm goes off with no reason - especially when parked out side.

I took it to Toyota dealership twice.

First time they replaced the battery of the key.

Second time they charge me 85 $ to check them system and said nothing wrong.

Problem is still there.

Now I keep the vehicle unlocked - otherwise alarm could go off.

Do you guys ave any idea - definitely my local dealer has none.

When you lock the door are all the doors actually locked?

How soon after you lock it does the alarm sound?

Can you turn the interior lights on to DOOR ( including the one in the back) and then shut all the doors and lock the car.. do the lights go out?

What is the battery voltage in your car?

How long has it been doing this for and is it mainly when it is cold?

And lastly, where in Aus are you.

One thing I would recommend is to check your insurance policy - i'm pretty sure if you haven't secured the vehicle (i.e. locked and all windows up) you're not covered... that's about $35K gone right there..... :)

Good day Brendan,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I am from QLD - Bundaberg.

I am sure when I lock door, they are actually locked.

Alarm goes off within 5-10 minutes initially but can happen at midnight too.

Interior lights go out when I close doors.

I think battery is 12v and I replaced the battery about 3 months ago because previous one was flat.

This issues started about 6 weeks ago - it is bit cold in here

Local toyota dealer said bring the vehicle back to remove internal door cover to see whether there is any loose connection - but I am worried to allow them to do it as I can not trust them fully.

Kind regards

Good day Matt,

Thanks for your warning.

I am keeping it in the garage most of the time.

We went to the beach other days but I had to stay close to the vehicle without enjoying.

I tried to find the fuse for the alarm - went through the manual but could not find it.

This is annoying me.

Kind regards,

Woo hoo, good news.

So this must mean that they will refund your $85 from when they checked it and nothing was wrong then :)

  • 10 years later...

The security alarm was triggered because of a problem with the hood latch switch. I fixed it by adjusting the hood stabilizer rubber screws to their lowest setting, allowing the hood to close more tightly and make firm contact with the hood latch. This resolved the issue, and the alarm stopped going off. (in other words, I simply adjusted the hood alignment rubber screws, the two little rubber pieces on each side of the car under the hood.)
