I have fitted a front camera into the Toyota emblem. I powered it from a wire connected to the back of the 12v (cigarette lighter) socket and then via a switch and a fuse to the front camera and a screen
located on the LH side of the dashboard. It worked well till I started the car.
The Engine Malfunction and the Slip Indictor warning lights stayed on as I drove the car. I removed the fuse from the power cable from the 12v socket to the camera and the problem went away.

My question.

Where can I “safely get power” for the camera that is switched on and off from the ignition circuit?

PS. The camera fits into the front Toyota emblem and is hard to see at a casual glance.

Colin, I also wish to install a forward facing camera to my 11/2013 Camry SL. I was planning to source positive power from the fuse panel under hood by using an add a circuit cable. These are easy to source from Ebay, Jaycar ect. I was contemplating using the radio fuse or perhaps accessories fuse. This would make the system alive when the accessories or ignition is on. Just a suggestion, do you have another device using the cigar lighter at the same time ? Could it be over loading the circuit ?

Can you tell me which emblem mounted camera you purchased ? So many on Ebay, maybe you still have the buyers details for me.

My Camry is Graphite metalic, I have added daylight running lights and stick on chrome wheel arch moulds.

Warren. Thanks for the info re the added circuit cable. Have ordered one. Re the front camera. The Toyota Logo camera looks down at about a 45 degree angle. I will look and see if I can find the ebay info re the camera. I know that there are a number of different sizes. Re the lighter socket. I wanted something permanent and yes you guessed correctly I use my GPS in the back socket.

Thanks Trent. It is worth a read and there is some very helpful

info. Colin.

This thread may or may not have some helpful information in it. Either way it is worth a read.

Warren. This is the camera I brought. (auto-max 2011) About $25. An NTSC CMOS camera. “Car camera front logo embed for parking view waterproof 2012 Toyota Camry”

There are others on ebay as well. The camera I go fitted reasonable well some small gaps. The screen you get/have will need to be NTSC

or PAL/NTSC computable. If you go down this track let me know as you only need power from “one end”. Usual disclaimer “all care but …”
