04 HILUX Handbrake light when changing gears

I have noticed something odd whilst driving my son's Hilux

When changing up from 2nd to 3rd & from 3rd to 4th The handbrake light has been coming on for about 1 second & then go's out again.

This happens regularly, but not all the time. I have tried  working the clutch & gear stick with the vehicle stationary, but it only occurs when driving on the road.

It doesn't appear to be a short as there are no blown fuse's. I'm wondering if a faulty switch or sensor somewhere could be the problem?

Hilux is a KZN165R 4x4 cab chassis With 3lt factory turbo diesel.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Hootie.

The handbrake light switch is under the dash, about midway from the floor to the dash and close to the RHS of the center console.   It is likely the wire or switch is damaged, dirty or loose.   A small physical build is useful to sort it, as there's not a lot of room.   It's almost certainly an intermittent short-these are the worst kind, because it's hard to detect when, where and if it's fixed.

Hi Lisa Jane, you may have sorted it already or from previous responses but if not the break fluid reservoir has a sensor in it, if the fluid is low it'll trigger the handbrake warning light, top it up to high mark on reservoir, check which fluid to use, could be Dot3or4, unfortunately it could be a slow leak somewhere which may need sorting, cheers.
