New to Toyota - 2005 Corolla Sportivo!
Here we are in 2026 already. Not a whole lot to add since my last post, haven't really taken the car for a good spirited drive since my Bathurst trip if I'm honest but hoping this year I can catch up with some mates and go to Nasho again seeing as last year was probably the first year since I got my license I hadn't driven there at least once. For a while now, I'd been umming and ahing whether or not to upgrade the headunit in my car. I'd been looking into what I needed seeing as I hadn't done anything sound system related since the install back in late December 2015. In terms of speakers, subwoofer and amplifier that side of things has never been a drama. I found more often than not that the I.C.E. had been lacking and when some end of year specials came up for headunits I began doing some research on units that would not only fit my car but suit my use. This was my Clarion VX-404AU that I got back in 2015 after Christmas. At that point the unit had been on sale for well over a year but after over 10 years of use, it has obviously been superseded by newer units with the same features if not more. I mean of course new units don't have a CD/DVD drive anymore but I haven't utilised it for well over 8 years anyway. Insert the Sony XAV-AX4000, bigger screen (by over 0.5"), no disc drive but has the ability to have wireless Android Auto, a feature I found no super common in more affordable units. With the help of my mate Dazz and Joel we got the unit swapped over fairly quick while also sorting out some other minor issues in the process (replacing missing bolts that held the headunit frame in place and sorting out some wiring issues on the subwoofer/amp side of things). I tell you what, ISO harness' are an absolute God send. I already had the primary and all I needed what the Sony specific one which Dazz spliced into to get 12V for the sub. Once it was all setup, I decided to also install the microphone on the rear view mirror bolt cover so I can now make calls with ease without having to use ear buds or headphones to my phone. I'm really happy with the upgrade, sound quality is fantastic and it's nice to have some features the car generally didn't come with. Towards the end of last year once all the Christmas festivities finished I did get a chance to give the beast an end of year wash with some of the spare time I had off work and when it wasn't stinking hot in Sydney. Of course the day after you can see the impending rain I ended up driving through. Anywho, stay tuned for more 🙂 Lets see what 2026 will bring.- 1

Timing chain issues
G’day all, as a very non mechanical person, i was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of articles regarding timing belt / chain problems please. My daughter purchased a 2nd hand Hilux SR 2020. Warranty expired in October 2025 and the local dealership is not prepared to undertake this work under warranty. I have been told by 2 very qualified mechanics that this is a known problem and probably should be done under warranty. The 70k service is missing in the log and was previous to my daughter owning the vehicle. The vehicle has been regularly serviced before and since she purchased the vehicle with the one anomaly. The car has been cold start tested and we were informed that the timing chain needs to be replaced but they / Toyota would not complete this work under warranty. She works on cattle stations in remote SA / NT and needs a reliable vehicle to travel to and from work, often a trip of 2000+kms. She purchased this particular brand and vehicle considering the amount of similar vehicles in outback Australia, their claims of reliability and after sales care. Toyota have always claimed to be the workhorse of Australian farmers but it would seem that they are not prepared to back up their claims. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Hiace 4Y to 2L conversion
Hi all, I'm new here and hoping to tap into the brain trust, I have an 89 HiAce with a 4Y engine with a 4speed behind it and I recently acquired a 84 Hilux with a rusted body but has a 2L with a factory turbo and a 5speed behind it... I want to swap out the 4Y and run the 2L into my hiace and I've searched for as much information as I can, what I have so far is engine mounts for the 2L will be different and the bell housing will be different, also the sump and oil pickup will be different but I can't find anything about the gearboxes... I'm wondering if anyone has any advice or experience in this kind of conversion? Will I be able to bolt the 2L up to my existing 4speed? If not how will I be able to run the 5speed as the HiAce has column shift and any other advice would be so appreciated, Thanks in advance. -

Used 1HDT motor for 80 series
Hi, I live in Brisbane, Australia and am looking for a used 1HDT motor for my 80 series. Non recon used units are hard to get so I also have been checking possibilities from China, Thailand and Japan, and even looking at new long blocks from China. Some guidance/wisdom from anyone who has found a reliable source for these engines would be much appreciated. Thanks, Peter -
