Fuel Filter - Change or not

This is the conundrum: 200 series Landcruiser diesel. As the fuel filter get dirtier, in theory it is filtering more as it is becoming somewhat restrictive. As long as the fuel pressure remains the same on the other side, should you change the filter. I know of owners who change their fuel each time they change engine oil. This is not the same as an air filter which as it get dirty it restrict the air flow. Or do you simply change the filter because it's 'the right thing to do'?

I just replace my fuel filter every 50k anyway (of course if the filter light was to come on I would replace it again too). That is my replacement schedule.
