air intake cleaning

hey all

just need some pointers with cleaing the entire air intake system.

do i need any special cleaning sprays?

wot chemicals should / shouldn't i use

I dont need to worry about cleaning the air filter as it a cheapo fabric one :P

I've read an article about cleaning the throttle body in a magazine...

Pretty much they just took the whole air intake system off and sprayed a heap of this throttle body cleaner into it! One guy held the butterfy open at times so they could clean the edges of it too... They weren't being careful either... very "liberal". The idea around it is that gunk builds up around the throttle body area and stops the butterfly closing properly.

Apparently you start your car and it idles rough for a bit as it works the cleaner through and out of the system and then it runs fine... Can anyone advise as to whether this is a tried and true method?

Pete if you're cleaning any part of it that comes before the filter, you shouldn't have to worry about what you use to clean it because it would presumably get filtered anyway.

no need for a DIY guide, just remember to rev the engine when you spray the air cleaner down it (my carr stalled as a sparyed it down there :P)
